  1. Odyssey 2 unfortunately falls into the same category as the Atari 2600 in that the vast majority of the games available just do not hold up today. However, the Odyssey lacks the historical significance that the Atari 2600 had, so I ended up giving it a 3. It's certainly not the worst thing on the market, but there are far, far better consoles in existence and there's really no reason to go back to this system unless you had a personal connection to it or you just collect everything and anything.

  2. I think I am somewhere around 60-40 or 70-30 with the majority being bought in person. I have three GameStop locations within ten minutes from me and about five retro game stores near me that gives me plenty of opportunities to pick things up locally. Nevertheless, I do buy games online from limited print companies like Limited Run Games somewhat regularly, so they are a decent chunk of my collection.

  3. I'm happy with the open preorder system that they have active at this point, I know that I would have missed out on plenty of games if they stuck with the original model of having a very limited supply available. I have so many games to play at this point, I don't need to have anything from Limited Run ready at this very moment. I can wait.

Right. The only two games in that picture @Naked Warrior are the first one and Risky’s Revenge.

I expect the price of Pirate’s Curse to go up even more when more people realize this.

Yeah and Pirate's Curse was Switch release #21, so it was very early in the days of Limited Run doing Switch games, so I bet far fewer sold then than if they had put it out today or even last year. I remember a lot of calls for a reprint when the other games went up for sale.

  5. I decided on 6/10, but it's not an easy console to rank. It absolutely is one of the most influential, iconic and medium-defining consoles ever created and some of the programming wizardry and imagination that went into creating games for it is amazing. It is one of my favorite eras of gaming to read about.

But I honestly cannot recommend going back to it unless you are a die-hard fan of video game history and want to see what the early years of console games was really like. I've booted up an Atari and dabbled with it's games while working for my local retro game store and for me personally, it's just a terrible experience. While there are a number of games that still hold up today, the joystick is way too stiff for my liking. I never feel like I have good control over what is happening on screen and when the games as a whole are so basic, it just never feels like it's really worth the effort to go back to, even for the really good stuff. We've got great modern renditions of stuff like Breakout and Space Invaders, so I just don't see much value in going back for casual play.

What the heck happened with Shantae and the Pirate's Curse on Switch? Its going for like $225 used for the standard edition. Luckily, that is one of the few LRG games I bought from them. Are other LRG games seeing that jump too?

I think last year the rest of the Shantae games finally got physical editions on Switch, so people want it to complete the set.

  7. I have a soft spot for the original XBOX, this was the console that really turned me into a gamer. I played games before the XBOX, but it was not my primary form of entertainment. But the XBOX completely changed that after I played Halo for the first time. I don't exactly know what it was about Halo, but it completely grabbed me in a way that other games hadn't previously. I owned a GameCube at the time and sold it with the games I had to get one with Halo and KOTOR and everything changed. Going forward I actually starting paying attention to the gaming industry and following news and reviews in magazines.

It is missing some of the big hitters of the era and never was able to establish a strong Japanese presence on the system, but I think it holds up enough to give it a seven. It's also a great console to collect for as so much of the library can still be bought on the cheap.

    Presumably for the inherent perks?

Actually, it's mostly because I just like retro games. I don't collect a whole lot, I just focus on PS4. But I enjoy seeing the old stuff.

  9. Of the games that I have actually played, I have to give no. 1 to Odyssey. Super Mario 64 undoubtedly changed the gaming industry forever, but I think Odyssey really took it to a completely new level and is probably the best 3D platformer I have ever played. I gave Super Mario 64 my second spot, because again it's very hard to overstate just how much of a landmark title that is not just for Nintendo, but for the industry as a whole.

My least favorite is Sunshine and that's mostly because I find the controls are just wonky and makes it more of a pain to play than necessary. I don't have a Switch, so I can't say if that was improved with the port.

  10. I give it a 6/10. Honestly, I just don't think there is that many games really worth going back to in this day and age. There's a handful of great games, mostly from Nintendo or Rare, and the rest if just a bunch of stuff that might have been good back in the day, but just does not hold up today. This is also the point where Nintendo lost a huge amount of third-party support, so it misses out on a lot of great games from the era, like Final Fantasy VII.

  11. I'm definitely at the point where I usually avoid collector's editions if at all possible. I just don't have the space for the huge boxes and they usually don't contain anything I care about. Artbooks, soundtracks, random figures, just not worth the money for me. I wish more companies did behind-the-scenes documentaries, as I really enjoy learning about the development process. I have made exceptions, I bought Ori and the Will of the Whips because I loved the first Ori so damn much, and I have the collector's editions of Spelunky and Narcosis because I got them at prices cheaper than buying the game by itself on eBay, or I buy it new and it's the only version offered (Play Asia exclusives).

  12. For me, Tetris is THE perfect game. It's such a basic concept that practically anyone is able to understand how it is played with very little background, but it does take skill to get truly good at the game. The mechanics are tuned in such a way that there's really not much you can change to make it that much better than earlier versions. It's a game that, to this day, continues to be ported and played by people all over the world. It's timeless.

Honestly, I don't know what I want to do with it. It's sitting right now, and I know it would make a cool piece in someone's collection, and probably net a decent profit, but it would also be something that should probably be preserved as gaming history.

Nothing is likely to happen until my move is complete, but after that, I'd like for SOMETHING to happen with it!

Edit: Nevermind, looks like Frank Cifaldi was already recommended.

  14. I have very, very little experience with the Saturn. Never owned it as a kid and only ever played it while working for a retro game store. Panzer Dragoon I actually did own once, but never played as I didn't own a Saturn. At this point, 0% chance I will ever play the original, but I do have the remake preordered through Limited Run Games and definitely plan on playing that.

I thought I already posted these but here you go. I also collect Transformers which is my main collecting focus. Video games are just something I do when I'm waiting for more Transformers to come out.

I have nearly a complete Generation 1 collection and I also collect the new third party stuff, specifically Fans Toys.

Nice, I collect Transformers as well. That G1 collection is sweet.
