  1. Hey all, It's been two years since my Kickstarter for Wart Worm Wingding. Thanks to all of you who supported that. Since then, I've more or less completed my Muleniverse project, which includes five NES games all of different genres that together tell a much larger story. You can check them all out here: https://itch.io/c/1395404/the-muleniverse But the only game I've ever given a boxed release to so far is Wart Worm Wingding. Well, that's about to change. After many requests, I've finally gone ahead and organized a Kickstarter for the follow-up to Wart Worm Wingding, the shoot-em-up game, Bat Lizard Bonanza. Technically, Bat Lizard Bonanza is the third game in the Muleniverse, since the first game, the adventure game Wampus, never received a boxed release either. To ameliorate this, I'm including a LIMITED SPECIAL EDITION REWARDS TIER that allows dedicated collectors to get a CIB of both Bat Lizard Bonanza and Wampus. (For those keeping track, that will leave just Leggite Luta Livre and Nemulesis left. We'll get to these next year if this campaign is successful.) Anyway, I'm not much for tooting my own horn. If you're interested, you can sign up to be notified when the campaign launches here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wartwormwingding/bat-lizard-bonanza?ref=clipboard-prelaunch And as many of you know, Bat Lizard Bonanza has already been available in ROM form for two years, and I've been updating it periodically based on feedback and my own caprices. It's finally at a place I'm comfortable with in order to cement it in cart form forever. You can check the game out on Itch right now (I imagine some of you have already played it): https://johnvanderhoef.itch.io/bat-lizard-bonanza And if you do already own it, and you back the Kickstarter, you can always gift the DOWNLOAD KEY to a friend or loved one. Anyway, feel free to ask questions or offer last minute suggestions for changes. As always, I appreciate the support from many of you. This Kickstarter wouldn't be happening without you. Cheers, John
  2. Less than 24 hours until preorders close. Don't miss your chance to own the NES edition of Orebody: Binder's Tale!
  3. Sorry for the late reply! Preorders will only be available until August 10 (in just six days!). There should be some copies left over, but those may only be available at conventions through Premium Edition Games until they are gone. Thanks for the support; I hope you're able to grab a copy!
  4. Hey all, I'm John. Some of you know me. I've made several NES games over the last few years. I did one Kickstarter back in 2020. I plan to do more for titles in the MULEniverse series in the future. But this post isn't about all that. I really don't like self-promotion, as I prefer to be quiet and just create stuff. But, alas, when things are done, people need to know about them. Or you just end up with a lot of projects nobody knows exist -- let me tell you! But this isn't a hard sell or anything. I just wanted to let interested parties know that my run and gun sci-fi fantasy game Orebody: Binder's Tale is currently available for preorder over at Premium Edition Games. It's a pretty straight-forward action game featuring five levels, 15 bosses, multiple weapon pickups, and a tragic narrative that is part of a much bigger Orebody narrative universe I'm crafting. It also has a boss rush mode and a jukebox mode so you can just listen to the awesome tunes provided by our very own Jordan Davis (Space Raft, Project Sword, etc.). I know some of you like to pick up homebrews, so that's why I'm letting y'all know. If you're not interested, no worries. Like I said, this isn't a hard sell. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them below or direct message me. FYI: the Limited Edition is already sold out, but I'm trying to work with the publisher to make more available if that's your thing. The standard edition is plenty cool looking, but I understand the value of scarcity. Go HERE if you want to preorder. Go HERE if you want to try the older demo or get more info on the game. Thanks to all the creators, collectors, and appreciators that keep this community alive. You all rock. Cheers. John
  5. Hey all. In celebration of the Midwest Gaming Classic happening in Milwaukee, WI from Nov. 5-7 this year, we’re releasing the first ever demo for our new NES homebrew game, Orebody: Binder’s Tale. Orebody: Binder’s Tale is a linear platform shooter for the NES that takes place on the alien world of Orebody. As an orphaned battle bot named Binder, players fight their way to the Floating City of Galvanstad, a hovering A.I. fortress, to confront their makers and avenge the death of their mentor. I thought some of y'all might be interested in checking it out. I always appreciate the feedback from the Videogamesage community. Happy Halloween! Grab the demo here: https://johnvanderhoef.itch.io/orebody-binders-tale Follow the game's progress here: https://twitter.com/OrebodyUniverse
  6. Sorry for the LATE reply. I've updated the game several times since August. The latest build, while not perfect, at least doesn't have that problem anymore. Cheers.
  7. Hey all, I'm about to get pretty busy with work, so I decided to release the entire single-player mode for my run and gun game, Nemulesis, into Early Access for those who want to play it ASAP. And because I have no idea when the game will get the 2-player mode and final polish it requires for its definitive release -- hopefully within a year. But the game is fully playable from beginning to end in its current early access release. It's also on sale for just a few bucks at the moment. The game is a labor of love, and I do hope to finish it completely over the next year by implementing a working 2-player mode and using player feedback to improve the overall game. If you've played my earlier MULEniverse games, you might be interested. If you enjoy Contra-esque run and guns, you also might be interested. If not, no sweat. https://johnvanderhoef.itch.io/nemulesis Cheers, John
  8. Sorry for the late reply, Scrobins. Work and life -- you know. I do plan on releasing Bat Lizard Bonanza and Leggite Luta Livre in physical form. I have an entire box set for what is now the tetralogy of games set in the same universe planned. But I don't know if I should do Kickstarters for Bat Lizard and Leggite Luta Livre first or just include tiers in the huge box set Kickstarter to purchase those games individually. It's a lot to think about. In a perfect world, I could fund the physical releases myself and serve people ala carte. But I don't have that kind of money to invest without knowing who might want the games.
  9. Guess what? There's a shadow launch of the single-player game for the NES brawler Leggite Luta Livre! What does that mean? It means you can grab it right now and enjoy from start to finish, rest assured that updates are on the way, including a 2-player mode. You get it now, plus all subsequent updates and extras for a low-low price. For those who don't know, this is my fourth NES game homebrew. I've previously made the adventure (Zelda-like) Wampus, the arcade platform game (Bubble-Bobble-like) Wart Worm Wingding, and the arcade shooter (Parodius-like) Bat Lizard Bonanza. Made possible thanks to Joe Granato and NESMaker, as well as folks like Jordan Davis, CutterCross, DaveyJones, Clayton Lancaster, Bucket Mouse, and so many others in the NESMaker community. A Kickstarter for a physical release, complete with 2-player mode, is on the books in the future, but I wanted to give everybody a chance to experience the culmination of my tetrology of NES games right now. The MULEniverse is a force that goes beyond me, and I welcome all other contributions to its timeline. Thanks for supporting old and new NES games, y'all! https://johnvanderhoef.itch.io/leggite-luta-livre
  10. Thanks, Scrobins! You're doing the lords work.
  11. FYI: My homebrew NES shmup, Bat Lizard Bonanza, is now available as a ROM in Early Access. https://johnvanderhoef.itch.io/bat-lizard-bonanza I plan to hold a Kickstarter for its physical release early in 2021, after which point I'll be able to sell people carts.
  12. My NES homebrew game, Wart Worm Wingding, is now available to everybody! You can check it out here: https://johnvanderhoef.itch.io/wart-worm-wingding Wart Worm Wingding is a 2-player arcade adventure for the NES. It's inspired by games like Bubble Bobble and Dig Dug. The settlers' mining operations have gone too far. Help the Wart Worms, Wing and Ding, destroy the settler invaders and free their underground lands from exploitation! Wart Worm Wingding features a rocking soundtrack, over 100 levels, and 10 boss fights.
  13. Only 5 days Left! Wart Worm Wingding is a 2-player arcade adventure for the NES. It's inspired by games like Bubble Bobble and Dig Dug. It features over 100 levels and 10 boss fights. The game is fully funded, but there are only five days left to back the project. The community is trying to reach the $5,000 mark to unlock the first stretch goal that will automatically upgrade all cart tier backers to a complete in box edition. If this interests you, consider backing and telling your friends. I hope you're all doing well during this pandemic. Check out the trailer on the Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wartwormwingding/wart-worm-wingding-a-new-arcade-platformer-for-the-nes
