Well, I figured I'd drop in here and just say that I was a HUGE fan of the PS2.  I was so in love with the PS1, I actually bought an import off of eBay before it was released in the US, along with Ridge Racer and Street Fighter.  I was young and stupid, but I have no regrets.  Plus, I sold it a few weeks before the US release and managed to recoup all but about $100 of my initial investment so, again, I have no regrets.

Regardless, I spent countless hours on the launch titles.  In order to get a US system on launch day, I even took my friends all to Wal-Mart to get a ticket in line (there were four of us) and I bought them breakfast.  Of the four of us, just one of us managed to get a winning ticket to buy one, and that was in a very rural area of Georgia.  It was a good time.

Anyway, here are a couple of scanned photos I found of my launch day unit and me holding it in my dorm.  Man, I was such a dork.  I still am.

Let alone getting a PS2 console on launch is amazing enough, the background story of what you described makes it more tangible and memorable. Thanks for sharing.

I had to wait a bit to get mine, but the wait made it so much sweeter. If not for the SNES, it would be my favourite console.

That is a really good answer.  I just thought I'd put my two cents in: When I started playing DWIV I was initially dismayed by the battle system, but I eventually grew to like it and it became my fav. DW game.  Not by much, but it did, at least back in the day.  Actually it's always been kind of a toss-up between III and IV for me.

As far as DWII goes, I'd never played a true RPG before that had more than one character in the party.  Getting to play three characters for the 1st time again would be pretty incredible.

I've often cited Castlevania III as my favorite NES game, but whenever I decide to play it, it always kind of feels like the 1st time again.  There's something about the atmosphere of that game that I dig more than maybe any other game, something about the moss and mold and decay that seems to be growing on everything, coupled with the music and gameplay that just makes it always feel great to settle into a new game.  I recently discovered the codes that enable the player to play Sypha down the alucard route and vice versa as well.  It's just always feels like a fresh run for me.

I'm gonna go with Crono Trigger.  I think it's probably the #1 game that still needs a true sequel, hopefully in a similar general style to it's original era.  I've played it many times and I always enjoy reliving it, but I also always need to put it away for a nice long spell after a play-through, so that I have a chance to forget it a little bit...

Excellent response to the Castlevaina III aspect. 👏

Chrono Trigger is a hallmark of a video game. When it comes to the snes specifically speaking, Chrono Trigger is right along with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past as the consoles best games for me. Great choice. 👍

For me it´s Valkyrie Profile, no doubt about it. Played it about 7 or 8 times now, would love to enjoy it for the first time again.

SMT Nocturne would be a close second, the atmosphere on that game, oh man, so great. There´s the remaster coming, but it´s fresh on my mind, will probably wait a while till I play it again.

I'll be honest, I've never played your choice. I YouTubed it to check it out. Seems cool and I'll look into it.

I have it but won't have a review until Christmas when I give it to my son as a gift. I'm sure it's mostly a gimmick like Labo, but should be fun for a bit.

I guess I wouldn't mind buying it. If it's a gimmick, then it's just collection piece to have. Hoping it's not, and nintendo can do more with it.

Wish I could try, but nope couldn't get an order (was trying Best Buy). I've heard even people who were able to order it get their order canceled later. Either it was limited in quantity first time around or a ton of scalpers got on board on this one. Anyways, it looks so cool and I am sure the demand is high for this one as it's a really neat idea! If it comes back in stock, I will get it.

I agree with you. The thinking behind this is pretty ingenious. Fun factor is there and it can only expand onward. I've been holding off buying on the secondary market (I hate paying scalpers) but this seems too good to pass up. I hope your thinking is right and that they release more of it at retail.

  6. My collection is far from complete from any platform but its getting there. I do have some heavy weights but I lack on complete runs of libraries which I prefer to accomplish now. First off, it would be the NES library and work on from there. The games in my collection that I do have are games that mean something to me and also games I bought at retail or given as gifts. Also, I've been at this collecting game for awhile now and it never bores me or my enthusiasm for this hobby never wanes.

Another vote for Link to the Past. I rented a snes and the game with a friend one weekend and I was hooked. I must have called the Nintendo help line like 10 times that weekend.

LoL My parents got so mad at me every time I use to call nintendo help when they received their phone bill.

Funny enough, I'm playing a link to the past on my switch as we speak.

I know you said one but I can’t choose between dark souls and persona 4.

Dark Souls because reliving the nightmare of learning that game would be so much fun. It was so satisfying spending hours on a section learning every mob movement and finally conquering a boss.

Persona 4 because it’s my favourite RPG and playing through the story again would be fun.

I dig it! 😁 Awesome choice!
