  1. I sold off most of my PS2 stuff.  I'm down to the stuff I really wanted to keep and with the price boom, it's hard to hang onto a few.  But let's face it, a lot of these titles do NOT have enduring gameplay and graphics these days.  There are a few absolute must-haves, but unless you're a completist, the majority of the PS2 library is pretty rough.  I'm down to about 100 titles in my collection from close to 200 and I definitely won't keep them all.

It sucks that you got a bum game, but it actually is a favour to you as the game really is a masochist's paradise at best.

Easily my least favorite Mario.  The only people that have nostalgia for it are the ones that grew up with it when they were in grade school.  Of course, I'm not a fan of Mario 64 either.  I felt like the first time Nintendo really got 3D Mario right was Galaxy.

  3. There's a few n my list, mostly mentioned here.
Silent Bomber tops my list, but apparently it's been noticed recently, judging by the absolutely outrageous prices. I'm also a big fan of Intelligent Qube and Devil Dice, as well as the almost completely ignored Puzzle Star Sweep.

Elemental Gearbolt was mentioned, but I feel like the Point Blank series was criminally ignored by gun game fans.  They are hilarious, challenging, and amazingly fun.

I also love/hate the Reboot game because it has an unreleased episode on it, but it's not a great game.

For RPGs and strategy, definitely Sayuki Journey West gets ignored, as do Koudelka and Kartia imo.

  4. I'm a huge fan of the genre myself.  My favorites are Silent Hill, System Shock and Dead Space, as well as more obscure stuff like Amnesia and other Frictional titles and I have all the games, comics, and movies from both, and even other merch like soundtracks and legit clothing.

There are definitely some overlooked gems out there like Illbleed, Carrier, and the like.  Stuff like Alien Isolation is awesome too.    I keep hoping for a better game based on The Thing...

  5. I've been slowly selling off for years.  First, it was selling yard sale finds to fund my collection.  Then, it was selling off some when I got divorced. Now, I'm in my 40s, I know I won't ever play everything I have, and I'm not a completist or too compulsive.

Now, I sell stuff that I either finally got to playing and don't like, is available digitally on multiple sources, or has gotten too expensive to keep around, due both to either maintenance (like arcade PCBs that can get corrosion) or simply so expensive that it's becoming a risk to keep them in the house.

Note also that my game collection is uninsurable and not covered by home owners insurance, so there's a small but real risk that I could simply lose everything anyway due to fire or theft.  Insurance companies won't cover collectibles here in Canada, so IF I had proof they'd accept of every item I had, they'd pay a flat rate of like $15 a game.  When you start having stacks of items worth hundreds or thousands that you don't use and can't replace cheaply, that's actually an issue.

  6. Heya!

I'm maxlords and I have been on every forum I've been on for decades.

New member here.  I've been out of vintage collecting since the price explosion, used to hang out on Digital Press and visit Neo Geo, AA and NA on occasion.  I still visit the Shmups and Arcade Otaku once in a while.  One of my buddies told me there was an actual thriving retro forum still, so I figured it's about time I join.  These days, I'm slimming my collection down, and mostly buying Switch games.

In my spare time, I am also a staff writer on www.realotakugamer.com and I pump out reviews on a semi-regular basis!
