I feel bad for you. Unfortunately it is a reseal, these types of seals were done by the stores, and they inserted their own store security label inside. I've had the same thing happen to me on a couple of PS2 games, the one that stands out to me is Contra: Shattered Soldier, which I bought from Amazon so wasn't able to inspect it. I had to replace it with an authentic copy, which fortunately wasn't too difficult to find.

Best advice I can give is to always ask for photos when purchasing, and don't be afraid to ask questions. For this particular game, you can very easily tell if is authentic by the Sony security label which came with all of early-mid launch PS2 games. At some point late in the console cycle, Sony decided not to include the security seal with their games, but if you were around at that time, you should know exactly which games had them and which didn't.

Again, sorry to hear about this. I know very well the feeling of getting burnt in this hobby...

Same situation for me I bought this on amazon for $300 thinking that would be a decent price even for the greatest hits version at this point. I never anticipated them sending me a reseal. Thankfully Amazon has good buyer protection so I will just mail it back and get a full refund.

Yeah, sorry to say, second the others. It looks like they just took the bin/cue files uploaded to the internet and literally wrote those to the disc, rather than writing the data of the bin itself to the disc. I was expecting the latter at least, but this looks blatantly terrible.

    EDIT:
Wow, the file names are nearly identical to the uploaded ones. Only difference, they just trimmed off the "_VER_E3" after the "2".

@Kimbolemonslice, could you please open the cue file in Notepad? What is the name of the bin file referenced in the text?

I can tomorrow when I stop by my parents house

That is the date someone 'dumped' the disc.  Definitely not a "legit" proto.  It's not a legit 2001 prototype, if someone dumped the disc in 2009, and the image files on your disc are the 2009 files.

That disc is about as valuable as the one I shared a picture of.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Lol i actually think yours is more valuable. Mine his a corrupt game file that won't play and a bunch of scratches. It's all good I took a gamble and it didn't pay off. Silent hill is my favorite series so I would've loved for it to be real, better luck next time

Exactly. So it can all match to the released version, even creation date, but that still doesn't certify it being real. It's still the best case scenario, though, for a start.

Yeah, If the game still shows up I'll check the dates first. I don't think the guy selling it was trying to pull any shenanigans he mentioned he got it In a trade and couldn't figure out how to get it to play on his ps2. His store had all positive feedback and it seemed like an unnecessary risk for him to make this disc he only was asking $40.

It means it was delivered to the general building address, but not to the OP or his household. Usually it means it's reached the mailroom of a company, but for apartments, it tends to mean that the apartment manager has it.

Or in principle, that's what it means. I've heard stories of postal dudes dropping packages off with any rando who happens to be in the vicinity of the apartment who says, "Yeah, sure, I'll make sure they get the package." And then the intended recipient never sees it.

@Kimbolemonslice, check with your apartment manager. It might be with them.

That's the thing I'm worried about since no management is here on the weekends

Don't forget that the E3 playable preview of Silent Hill 2 is already released online, available to download. Not saying that's the nail on the coffin, but it is certainly a factor to consider. So even if the dates on this disc seem consistent with the time frame of E3 2001, it's not as indicative of the legitimacy.

The files would have a date created as well as a date modified so if the date created says 2001 I think its legit

@Kimbolemonslice Pop the disc in a computer, and show us what the file structure looks like / what files are in the main directory, and I can tell you a little bit more about the disc.  Have it show the file details such as modified dates.

I will do that my only problem is I don't have a computer with a DVD ROM drive, I may just buy one to see. I am a little confused by your last post is that an actual copy of the e3 beta or are you making a point saying you could whip one up really quick?

I would have said no but there are a few facts that are changing my mind.

    • They used replaceable labels so they can change the game on the disc and no have to continuously scribble out old names. They can just apply a new label with the new game.
    • E3 was in June of that year so the date is correct.
    • The game was released in September 2001.

I also found this from a June 2001 report on the exposition:

    Sony PlayStation2
The PS2 was boasting some interesting second-generation titles like Herdy Gerdy, Gran Turismo 3, Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid 2. The level of artistic sophistication found in such titles as Konami's Silent Hill 2 is impressive, bringing to mind Square's upcoming feature film Final Fantasy: The Movie.

Man you broke me down now I'm pumped up again lol.
