  1. I would just take your time and enjoy picking things up as they come. Buy flash carts so you can play what you want but still go out and hunt going flea markets, thrift stores, etc if that brings you joy. A few years ago whenever I went out hunting I would get really upset because I wasn't finding anything, it took the fun out of it. I had to reevaluate my joy of going out hunting was- and it was just getting out and going and looking. Now I don't expect to find anything, and if I go home empty handed I don't mind at all because I took my time looking and had fun. Prices are hard to take in for anyone that has been collecting for a long time, but the good thing is there is no timetable and there is no pressure. Take your time and enjoy the ride.

A couple other things- I don't think a small collection is bad, as there is a burden of a large collection due to the space and value of it all. A second thing- I see people recommending collecting new consoles, but if you don't care about those don't fall into that, just collect what you want and enjoy.

  2. Hey all, I have a good amount of Animal Crossing Amiibo cards I'd like to trade for other AC Amiibo cards to complete my set. Any members here interested in doing some trading? If so please let me know.

    Thanks

  3. A couple weeks ago a seller posted an auction lot with an offer option, I made an offer, they countered, I accepted the counteroffer. A couple hours later they message me saying they were sorry but they couldn't ship the item and could I cancel. I figured I was backdoored so I replied stating if they can't ship they need to cancel. Right after the message I noticed they relisted the item as an auction with the starting price I accepted. The seller also put in a cancel on my order. A week goes buy and the auctions ends with one bid- at the same price I paid. Right after it ends the seller messages me: "Hey I’m actually back and able to ship. Did you want me to send the [item] still. Sorry about the inconvenience." Ebay had not refunded me for the order and I did want the items so I just replied that I did. I was skeptical as now the seller has two orders for the same item. A week goes by and I'm just waiting on the refund at this point- then the seller messages me "Hey everything will be out early this week just got back from vacation thanks for your patience." A couple days later I get the items. Such a strange situation. In the time between ebay never refunded me which was pretty disappointing considering it was a nearly $170 transaction and the seller was the one who canceled.

I haven't left any feedback and am conflicted on if I should neg them or not. The transaction was not smooth, but I did receive the items

  4. Saturn Import Lot. Everything is complete except Baku Baku Animal and Biohazard which are missing manuals. All disc are flawless. $45 plus shipping for all

How do you deal with buying items with cash? Just bank withdrawal records? That's my main concern since 90% of stuff I buy and sell is cash sales.

I have been told that writing yourself receipts for the items purchased at flea markets/yard sales is adequate for record keeping of cost paid for the item.

But like many others, I was selling stuff I no longer used that I had no record of what I paid for, so for many items I wasn't sure.

Not true. Ebay is just going to report to the IRS earnings of $600 or more. You are responsible to tell the IRS how that money was earned.

To expand to this more- the report that ebay sends the IRS is the total amount of dollars taken in- which means you have to calculate all the deductions for shipping, taxes the buyer paid, and the ebay fees.

So if you sell an item for $25, $4 shipping, and the buyer paid $1 the IRS will be shown $30. You have provide your tax professional the totals for all of those other expenses so you have to keep detailed records- and by personal experience- you better start doing it in January.

  7. It has already started in some states including the state where I live, Virginia. It was a major pain this year as I wasn't aware and had to calculate all my cost for the entire year without a plan. I have purposely stayed under the threshold this year but I have so many things to get rid of around the house that next year I plan to start back up. It isn't fun with the paperwork but my taxes didn't really go up much.

I try to sell anything offline through Facebook marketplace before listing it. Also if a game store like GameStop offers credit pretty close to the online value when they do trade promotions I now take advantage because it is less work and the money isn't far off from what I'd make online. I've also traded with more people online now as no funds are involved. I don't have an independent game store close by but I assume this will help their trade ins.

Most people that I know who sold online before still do for what it is worth. However, I no longer pick up items to resell unless the profit margin is too good to pass up (ie not longer pick up items where I'd make 10-20 profit.)

  8. In 2004, I was twelve and reading an issue of Tips & Tricks. The magazine used to have a section called Collectors Corner written by Joe Santulli of Digital Press. This particular issue talked about collecting Super Nintendo games, which at the time was still my favorite system. Later that year for Christmas I asked for a copy of the Digital Press Advanced Collecting Guide and basically memorized it on what games to look for at GameStop (which at the time was phasing out Super Nintendo games.) The rest is history.

Pretty much done collecting now other than buying new games I'm interesting in. I had a lot of fun collecting and learning
