Any news on Sam’s Journey? Miss your cool updates!

The project had to be put on hold due to unexpected personal events, but now we're back with the project revived.

  4. Hi there, video gamers!

What if two different 8-bit systems played the same song? Just for the fun of it, we took the Forest tune of Sam's Journey and put the C64's SID output on the left channel and the NES' APU output on the right. The unique characteristics of both chips complement each other really well.

Enjoy our little symphony! Just click to play:

This game was fantastic on the C64 and it looks even better on the NES.

The visuals on both system are, of course, different. While the C64's colors are more flexible to use, the NES benefits from a higher resolution. The gameplay experience, however, should be the same. 🙂

I cannot imagine how incredible Super Sam's Journey or Sam's Journey 64 will be 😜

We cannot either - yet! 😅

Have you thought about adding achievements? Like 'Beaten the game with 100%', 'Beaten the game without dying', 'Beaten the game in unter xx minutes' ...

Like a special Knights of Bytes certificate or a dinner with the developers? 🤣

Knowing how much of a bother that can be to adjust, that's really impressive 🙂

    Thanks! 🙂

To be honest, it's a whole lot of work, but as players of both regions will benefit from this, we think it's worth the effort.

Let me know when you're going on Kickstarter or whatever so I can be the first to back this!

    Deal! 😄

We're certainly going to make a post here, when the time has come.

  9. Hi there, video gamers!

We've been asked if there will be a PAL and an NTSC version of Sam's Journey on the NES. The answer is yes, and we're even going the extra mile and will provide equalized gameplay speeds on both systems! It seems to work well so far!

Enjoy this little video study where we play the two versions simultaniously with one controller. Just click to play:

I played this game on the C64 - it's for sure one of the best games ever on that machine!

    Glad you liked it! 😃👍

Had a lot of fun with this and can't wait to try it on NES.

Due to the specific characteristics of the target systems, the C64 and the NES version will each have their own unique look and sound, which is absolutely fine. We will, however, attempt to provide the same level of playability and joy on both machines! 😃

nice!  it looks like you guys are really going to raise the bar for homebrew with this.

To give the fans of platform games on the NES a good time is what we primarily aim for.  🙂

Looks very slick! I hope there will be a non-Kickstarter way to get a copy.

Our yet-to-be-announced publisher just confirmed that there will options to obtain the game after the Kickstarter. The Kickstarter, however, will help us to get the production costs covered.

I remember seeing this when it was being developed for C64, and thought it would be right at home one the NES! Very happy to see you are pursuing actually it! Excited to see it as it develops 🙂

Yes, we initially created Sam's Journey for the C64 to bring some NES vibes to that system. And now, with Sam coming to the NES, we're kind of closing the circle! 😃

Looks fun, and since my oldest son's name is Sam, I tend to gravitate towards anything with his name in it. 😛

Well, if he's also a bit into retro gaming, then it's win for everyone! 🥳

There's a show Atypical with an autistic kid named Sam and his parents made him a board game titled "Sam Takes A Walk" where he encounters unfamiliar situations and has to learn to deal with them.

Interesting, thanks for mentioning. Our Sam will encounter quite some situations aswell, but other than that, they are not related! 😉
