  1. Blaster Master: Blasting Again

    Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure

Sackboy: A Big Adventure (this one is even worse because how the hell is it not called Little Big Adventure?)

I also nominate "Garfield Kart: Furious Racing" because I'm sure they wanted to give it the glorious title of "2 Fat 2 Furious" but then changed it because some fatties complained, I guarantee you that is what happened. what a waste

  2. I need to play DT2 again. Like most, I preferred the first but from what I recall the only reason for that was the DT2 soundtrack not being as good and it was at least on par with the original in every other way.

RR2 otoh is easily in the top-10 NES soundtracks for me and possibly top-10 NES games overall. Excellent sequel to the very first game I ever owned

  3. N64 = GOAT. Also, PS1 = #2 GOAT so no fanboy loyalty here other than being a generational fanboy perhaps. 5th gen was the sweet spot, immersive 3D gameplay AND retro charm. Has aged better than any other gen for that reason (all the graphical glitches on PS1 do suck though lol).

current progress towards the N64 fullset:

    ---CIB:   149/296
    ---box:  177/296
    ---manual:  216/296
    ---cart: 248/296

Couple more boxes and a Mario Golf cart on the way (which will complete all the 1st party carts)

  4. FWIW I grew up with NES and SM64 to me was the most significant event in gaming history by a mile. It was like game design evolved 10 years into the future with a single game. There will never be anything like that again. It deserves top spot on the pedestal.

Not that I condone paying over $1mil for a piece of plastic wrap.

I still think the 9.0 Zelda was sillier. At least this was a legitimate mint game.

$870k for a second print Legend of Zelda?! I have no words. This just keeps getting crazier.

About $600 for a nice copy of Zelda with a few dings and $869,400 for a generic thin layer of cellophane.

I don't doubt that this has been brought up before, but couldn't someone just buy the factory that produced these seals for about that price?

    Do I sound bitter?

FF7 was a monumental/technological leap over FF6 but I don’t think anyone would say today that OG-FF7 looks better.

I would absolutely say that though. To an extreme extent. From an artistic standpoint, the PS1 FFs are among the most beautiful games ever made and blow the rest of the series out of the water imo.

Count that as my contribution to the topic.

  7. I doubt PC gaming would have ever become mainstream back then. The prices and setup were even more of a barrier than they are now.

Considering Atari, 3D0 and NEC all rushed out their half-baked barely-better-than-SNES hardware to the market right before 1995 I'm not sure they would have been able to get away with launching any more capable hardware soon enough. Maybe NEC could, since PCFX only released in Japan.

Presumably the core of the N64 hardware designed by Silicon Graphics would still have existed so whoever would have picked up that tech in Nintendo's absence may have won I'd imagine.

  8. I bought a Panzer Dragoon Saga at launch and for the next 10 years or so I thought it was mindblowing to own a game that actually doubled in value. 😆

There have been other things that have gone up more but that one is the most interesting to me since it's the only one to actually go up pre-2008. I didn't keep tabs on prices back then but I don't recall any other game going above the initial retail price, I mean, I'm sure Stadium Events did, but what else?

I think you're in the minority with these two hot takes. The 3DS and Wii U had a good libraries but the fact remains that there was shit for 3rd party support. Nothing like the Switch is seeing.

That was in the context of 1st party support. But even then, the 3rd party support is not relevant to me for as long as I can get a better version of every game on Steam or PS4. Something I can't say of 3DS.

It has the PS2 thing of being underpowered and having a million games, but because we're in a much different era it doesn't have the exclusive library that the PS2 had (I literally can't think of any non-Nintendo exclusives). The constant rereleases have been a bummer as someone who would happily even just play rehashed sequels, like seriously just give me new NSMB or Captain Toad levels or make Bowser's Fury into a full game, not a side quest.

Joycons might be Nintendo's least ergonomic controller including the N64. They are a crampy bummer both using the Switch portably and if a friend hands you one for multiplayer instead of a real controller (or worse if you have to use it for multiplayer). The Pro controller is pretty great though.

It's definitely my least played Nintendo console ever. Outside of the marquee Nintendo games (the ones that aren't just remakes or ports) it has nothing for me personally since it's my last choice for multiplatform games and yet still is often the most expensive choice. This era of games in general isn't my favorite either. I get why it's the megahit blockbuster it is and I'm happy Nintendo is finally getting third party support it's lacked for 25 years.

I pretty much would echo this take. Switch has been like the console equivalent of a greatest hits album. It appears we've reached a point where there are so many great games, and where the evolution of games has stagnated so much, that a system can go through it's lifespan with almost nothing new on it and still be beloved.

Granted, Super Mario Odyssey is my favorite modern-era game and the best thing Nintendo put out since GC, but if not for that one game (which had no reason not to be on Wii U as well other than to force me to buy a Switch) I don't really have much of any reason to own a Switch.

I also don't think it sends a good message that Nintendo was punished for the relatively high effort they put into Wii U and rewarded so greatly for their lack of effort here, particularly considering that they don't even have multiple systems to support anymore. Think about that. They had to support both the Wii U and 3DS at the same time and both of them had a more substantial original library than Switch does or probably ever will.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse on 3DS will likely be pushing $150+ not too long from now, that one is honestly a no brainer. A couple of reasons pointing to why this'll be the case. It's the only other way to play it on a handheld, and physical 3DS copies are currently the most "affordable" way to play it, not including digital (duh).

Would be surprised if the Switch port is still worth more than the original a couple years from now. Especially when they are planning another physical port for PS5.

That's definitely a collector's item, but it has two things going against it.

1)It's for the PC - PC games in general just don't retain their value with little exception. You can find old PC games that you feel *should* be valuable, but simply are not - but of course one never knows, in 30 years maybe there will be a huge demand for vintage PC games 🙂
2)As was noted, the Collector's Edition is readily available for PS4 and Switch. While not as rare, and not numbered, it has everything the PC game has.

But what makes people think modern console games are going to fare any better when they are all basically identical to PC and were designed as PC games in the first place (unlike older games that were unique to the original hardware)?

I have no desire to collect for modern consoles, mainly for that reason. Maybe that's just me though.

  13. Is he dead yet...?

    IMG_8087.thumb.JPG.b5e5e3353d5ae30694a70edf4c26fb34.JPG

I think that constitutes a slaying, yessir.

No swag at all but here's a couple loose items that don't really count and an extra sealed OoE:IMG_8102.JPG.ec7588ad86141ecab646d2e699efea54.JPG

The intact hangtab could make CV1 the real centerpiece of the set as opposed to my relatively beat up Kid Dracula, though who can say? Personally I think owning Kid Dracula is cooler but I've never been a condition sensitive type.68950768_IMG_8104(2).JPG.27582b584a47cd8935030a7e682cd2a5.JPG

*EDIT* I knew I'd end up forgetting one thing, though I don't think I'd count this as part of the main set anywaysIMG_8107.JPG.6ff7d3187d8e694fe70854c9becc6d1a.JPG

  14. 4 whole games whooooaa!! (and no, the SNES one is not actually sealed)

    IMG_7908.JPG.e179e53a27acde2fe9293a6e24ada459.JPG

It seems this is probably the only complete set I have with more than 3 games, despite my sizable collection overall. But I have many others that are SO CLOSE:

Castlevania (only missing manual for Dracula X )

Klonoa (only missing cart for Empire of Dreams, though I had it at one point)

Banjo-Kazooie (only missing box for Grunty's Revenge)

Ratchet & Clank (only missing All 4 One, wasn't planning to get it but I just realized this when looking at the first post)

Metroid (only missing the spinoffs: Pinball, Hunters, FF)

Panzer Dragoon (only missing the remake)

Earthworm Jim (only missing box for EWJ3D and also Saturn EWJ2 since that is more a remake than a port)

Silent Hill (missing the PS3 ones, used to have them both)

@sp1nzspeaking of "can pull 4 figures" - check this guy who just sold his entire collection:

    https://www.ebay.com/sch/50centgunit/m.html?_nkw&_armrs=1&_ipg&_from&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2046732.m1684

He got $23k just for the cardboard. Nothing sealed. Another 9k for sealed copies of most DS/3DS games.

I thought Canadian variants were supposed to be fools gold? Also wtf at that Emerald selling so high with an obviously fake cart.

Yeah, but some of the unfolded boxes are production ones.

Here is some of the ones I have:

Dang, I did a search for "never folded" before making this topic, didn't think to search for "unfolded" since that could just mean that act of unfolding a box lol. That topic is very helpful, thanks.
