Blu-ray disc top scratches

I did some googling yesterday and couldn't really find a conclusive answer. For blu-ray discs are top scratches as big of a deal as older disc types? I picked up a copy of Dawn of the Dragon for PS3 yesterday for a pretty good price, only to find out it's got some pinholes. Of course I can play through the entire game and find out for myself.. But I'm pretty bad about buying a bunch of games and playing them "eventually". I purchased it from a game store and can return it if necessary, but would like to keep them from destroying it since it's a harder to find game.
