  1. Little Samson is one of the last NES CIBs on my wanted list. I almost bought one for 750 a few years ago, but someone else snagged it when I was getting ready to press BIN

I don’t think there will ever be an opportunity to buy it at a reasonable price again, but I will keep my ebay search active for just in case 😁

My last one for the SNES was Hagane. I bought it at a pretty high price 2 years ago, which I thought was never going to increase further as it had been stable for years, but I believe it did increase in the meantime.

  2. The NES, no other console even comes close.

First there were atari (extremely basic) commodore (not plug and play and once set up, the games were still very basic) and home PCs (not plug and play and very expensive, so not accessible for the masses). Then the NES was introduced > plug and play, high quality, great graphics and games that really took you to a different world and made you feel like you were going on an adventure. Were I lived, there was also a real hype around the NES. All kids had one or wanted one.

In my view, the consoles that came after the NES were just iterations (which does not make them inferior in any way).

Of course there were also the arcades back then, but these were a different league on their own.

  3. Let’s just agree that the entire series is awesome. I don’t find any of them substantially better than others. They all have a lot going for them and it is amazing how consistent capcom has been in creating this series. It is one of my all time favorite series.

If I would have to choose one, I would go for part 2. Part of it is nostalgia (I had it when I was a kid), but part is also the atmosphere . The colors, stages, music.. it just draws me in every time I play it. And that intro is just beautiful in its simplicity. What a way to get started !

I have not yet received it. I’m not planning to cancel my order

Same here. I’m a shmup fan and am really looking forward to these games. Rolling gunner already fell through because of a lack of pre-orders (and a lame business model of the company that was going to produce them), so I hope these will still come.

hopefully we will receive an update soon.

  5. This is fantastic news. I love the arcade original and super ghouls and ghosts. The NES one is great as well, but I have never been able to get good at it.

I think it’s fantastic that Capcom is doing this, I guess it will be a labor of love as this will probably not sell millions.

  6. I think the NES games have aged wonderfully. They are still as much fun as they were all those years ago. I even still enjoy the graphics, the colors, spritework, music, etc. Also the challenge in many of the games is great.

the N64 aged terribly in my view. I had both consoles back in the day, so I don’t consider myself biased. It’s just that the games are slow, feel empty and the controls and camera systems are absolutely terrible. I was playing Mario 64 on the 3D All Stars Collection the other day and even though it’s a nice game in many ways, I stopped playing because it become way too frustrating. Also the graphics are just off putting for me. I see the N64 and PS1 as the Atari of their days. Both were pretty fun when they were current and better alternatives were not available yet, but they were not great, and were not advanced enough to age well.

I've been aggressively highlighting tons of great games every day in my short time here, so I'm not sure where you're getting that from. 🙂

Comparing Dead Cells to Dark Souls and Castlevania and even calling it "tighter" in the process, though? I think that's unfair to those other franchises.
I probably would have liked it a lot more if it didn't feel so incredibly padded out by its "roguelite" nature. Isaac did the same, but I think really gained a strong edge entire from the weird wacky random ways each individual run could evolve. Maybe I just sucked too much at Dead Cells, I wouldn't mind admitting that. But I got pretty fed up with playing the same repetitive area over an over again.

The games do have similarities, but I think dead cells is quite unique. The difficulty develops in such a way that you can get stuck on a certain level for weeks or months, then get better and think: what was so difficult about that ? On higher difficulty levels it becomes tense and strategic, but you always keep on learning by trial and error and find new weapons to keep it interesting. And the story is quite interesting as well ! It gets a kind of science fiction angle to it once you start to understand it.

All in all dead cells has become one of my all time favorites, but I have to say that I am happy that I can put it down now after fully finishing it with about 175 hours in.

  10. This is unfortunate.

bit rot is the reason why I have never collected disc based games and stopped after the 16-bit generation.

In the last few years I have also been building up a switch collection, but will stop doing so if the games only last 20 or so years.

Does anyone know how high the likelihood is that we will be able to re-flash the carts in the future, once the encryption has been hacked or bypassed ? And how well would re-flashing actually work ?

  11. Mine is SMW.

maybe SMB3 is the better game, as it is pure perfection. But the memories of seeing SMW in action for the first time, after having played the NES for 5 or so years.. And being completely hyped up for it, after having seen what Nintendo was really capable of at that time..

It was pure magic and I still get that same feeling when I fire up SMW. Looking back, I am actually amazed that Nintendo could deliver SMW after having delivered SMB3. Nowadays any follow up game that would be delivered after something as good as SMB3 would disappoint for sure.

But both are great games. I have played all of the main 3D installments aas well, but those never reached the same level. In my opinion they don’t come anywhere near.
