  1. Current car is a 2017 Cadillac XT5 but plan to add another sports car as a secondary car in next few years.  I am thinking a another Corvette or Porsche.  Always been into sport cars the suv is out of need as I am a single dad so when kids are around I need the space.

    Past cars

    1985 RX-7

    1986 RX-7

    2003 Honda Civic

    2005 Corvette Convertible

    2009 RX-8

Hopefully someone who collects TG16 can chime in - how hard is it to hop into collecting for it right now? My basic understanding is that the console is expensive to collect for, is that the case?

I have a full US Hucard set and only missing Super Air Zonk to have a complete US set.  I would not recommend getting into collecting US turbo at this point.  Even the most common games tend to be $30 to $50 range.  With this announcement I can only see prices going up.  I would probably just get a turbo everdrive to use with this new system.

  3. Market is probably hot right now because people are home and stimulus money.  I love the Saturn but I hardly own any of the US games.  My main Saturn has a Rhea in it.  I did pick up a few Saturn games recently from a friend and I was surprised at the going rate for some of these games.  Like Tabonga mentioned some of these games have always been expensive.  When I got into Saturn in 2002 games like Panzer Dragoon Saga was a $200 game even then.  I remember people would say buy the game play it and pass it on.  Basically a $200 rental at the time ha ha.

  4. I was originally going after a complete nes and TG16.  I pretty much stalled on about 400 nes games and have not bought any new games in months.

With the TG16 I think I may finish that collection.  It's relatively small and not a ton of shovel ware.  I am actually almost done with the US set I just need 1 cd game and 2 hucards.  After that I'm not sure I will complete any full set.  I will just go after subsets like all Shining Force, Ys, Castlevania, etc.

Are you set on using the cart to play?  I've gotten into MISTer recently and have been impressed with it's FPGA cores so far.  Could be an option for GG on the CRT and HDTV.

I had a mega sg and a super nt and sold them after I got a mister.   I played game gear on both and it looks amazing in both rgb and hdmi on the mister.  If you don't need to use the cart this is a way cheaper alternative.   Also the gba looks amazing on here.

  6. I'm a big fan of hook and prince of persia on the sega cd.  I know these games are on other platforms but I really like the sega cd versions.

Hook is such a guilty pleasure of mine.  The snes version does look nicer in the colors but I really like the music on the sega cd.  Prince of Persia on here and on the Turbo CD are my two favorite versions of the game.

I think the problem is pretty evident.  If you notice the fact that the JP stuff stayed relatively flat on most games over the years, a few started to ratchet up first, and coincidentally (not) they were the US games that got the ugliest first.  Lickle shot up over $100 a few years back as Samson was going for like $500+ at that rate, too distasteful for many.  Others then followed suit like Bubble Bobble 2.  There are some odd ones out, not sure why, like the Duck Tales and Rescue Rangers sequels along with Bonk being $20 cheap stuff still which is weird.  But it did spread to where now a lot of it across the board, even the common stuff that doesn't have an annoying to impossible language barrier has gone up in recent times.

The NEC end of it just started to really sour too with both styles first the discs, but now the Hucards too are getting annoying as more want to enjoy the TG16 but find the prices to be intolerable, they started modding or buying Japanese hardware to get the 3-4x larger card library where most the quality stayed hidden.  As a result 2-3 years ago you could get a core grafx/pce system for like $50 shipped out of Japan, now they're over $100 and rising.  Part may have to do with the SSD3/UperGrafx2 optical simulators that deal with card games too, but I think a lot of it is just price evasion.  While I was away from NA 2 years ago I got back into NEC and saw the creep really hit as 2018 came closer to an end and more through 2019, and CDs started to tick up since then too.

I think the SSDS3 really affected the prices of the coregrafx and the supergrafx.  The cores were sub $100 before that came out.  The TG16 library is the only one that I have been actively collecting these days.  The US set is actually rare compared to other systems so I see that cooling a bit but still holding it's value.  It makes sense that with everyone suggesting to just get the japan version of a game those prices would eventually go up.  I'm really close to completing the US TG16 set so I'm just patiently chipping away at it.  I am curious what the TG16 mini will do to the prices.  We will know soon enough.....

  8. 1 - I been really tempted by the PSIO but I have resisted because they still seem to have incompatibilities on certain games.  My mod chipped Ps1 still does the job but I been really close several times to buying one.   I own a Rhea for Saturn and a GDEMU for Dreamcast and I love these things.

2- I can't comment on what Krizz is doing with sega cd but I loved my mega everdrive.  I picked up a Mega SD from terra onion and I love that thing.  Being able to play sega cd from a cart is very nice and it works well.

3- I think for 3ds you can just soft mod the system and just use any sd card.  Last I checked you needed some kind of card for DS games but I could be wrong.

6-  No sour grapes the TG16 is amazing.  It is my favorite console and I have a good collection of hardware and games.  It was the first system I got after my nes at age 13 and I have been fond of it ever since.  I like to play, collect, and fix these systems.  In fact I just fixed a TG16 parts board I got off of ebay.  If you interested message me I may be able to cut you a good deal so you can get put that everdrive to use.  It's system only but I can let ya know what parts ya need.  The system is fully working and tested.

I am selling my Super NT and my Mega SG.  Both are in great shape and I really didn't use them all that much.  I honestly prefer to play on original hardware on my pvm.  With the Super NT I also have the unopened Turrican box that I will include.  The mega sg includes a 32gb sd card.  Any questions or more picture request please PM me.

$285 shipped for the pair or $150 each shipped.

I think it's mostly because they age well and are infinitely replayable, similar to how RPGs are usually this expensive, evergreen thing because they're mostly stories.

It's also an easy genre for adults with limited time and the people who play shooters seem to hold onto them, at least from what I've seen. I've never seen anyone post their platformer collection or FPS collection, I've seen lots of shooter collections. For imports it's definitely just demand. People pick a console they know nothing about like PC-Engine or JP Saturn and the first thing they do is look for shooters because they know their English speaking ass can play them.

This is so true about shooters.  As an adult with work, kids, and other hobbies being able to sit down for a quick shooter session is just amazing.  One thing that I have noticed about myself and shooters is that I prefer using a joystick.  I got used to playing neo geo shooters using a stick and now I love using one.

As others have said it's just a real easy genre to get into.  I also prefer playing these on a CRT.

I got my MegaSD in today.  This thing is sweet.  CD games play perfectly.  I hope they do an NES flash cart someday.  I have an everdrive N8 and I'm honestly not that impressed with it.  None of the experimental firmware packs work on it, so I'm stuck with the vanilla version which honestly isn't any better than the powerpak.  Actually, I would say my powerpak is better because I've been able to upgrade it with new mappers.  The only thing I can't use it with is VRC7 audio.  I know you can get updated mappers for the N8, but I didn't have much luck with them either.  They either didn't work, broke compatibility with other games, or broke the N8 altogether.  It also doesn't help that Krikzz is always working on a new version of his carts.  The Terraonion stuff is expensive, but I haven't regretted buying either the Super SD System 3 or the MegaSD.  Even with firmware updates, I've still felt like I got a completed product.

I just got the MegaSD on Monday and I can confirm that it is a great product.  I was using a mega everdrive x7 before but this one is way better.  It's really nice having the entire library on one sd card.

  12. I cut down on my carbs in May and it made a huge difference to me.  Prior to that I followed the low calorie diet and that never worked well long term.  I try and get a 30min run every morning during the week as well.    I am down to high school weight and I am about to be 43 this Friday.  I have never felt better and I eat what I want as long as I watch the carbs.

I had my physical in October and the doc was really happy with all my numbers.

how do you feel about the jump from component to rgb on a consumer set like this?
I see you have the silver model I hear they are usually in better shape.
what model Sony you getting rid of?

I have only ever modded one Toshiba that had component on it and I felt the rgb was just a bit sharper.  I know I could use an rgb to component device but this makes it simpler.  Just my opinion but going straight rgb you avoid a lot of the processing going on in the TV.

The Sony CRT I got rid of was a KV-27v42 that I had for like 6 months.

  14. Wow I just went yesterday to pick up a JVC AV-27D502.  I Only had the chance to test the s-video and composite but I was really impressed with it.  My plan is to RGB mod this set so I can have a set with all the old analog inputs.  The pic below is Dracula X on the Saturn via s-video.  This set is replacing a 27" Sony I am selling off this weekend.

  15. I got an aes a few years ago but only ever got 3 original games for it.  I did get a neosd and I love it.  I did the rgb bypass and added a unibios to my aes as it was originally a japan model.

I also picked up the newer memory card (neo flash master)and that is neat to use.  Here are some pics playing the AES on my RGB modded Sony Trinitron.

  16. I love my Turbografx it was the second system I owned after the nes.  You need pretty deep pockets to collect for the US library as they tend to be pretty expensive.  The only other system more expensive than this is the Neo Geo Aes.  The games in the US were not produced in Nes numbers so some of them can be hard to find.  Even at game conventions they tend to not have many Turbo games.  I'm pretty proud of my collection and I am slowly working on it with no rush.  I tend to add a new game every few months lol.

If you just want to play and not collect all the suggestions above are valid.  My recommendation would be either a Japanese duo that has been recapped or a coregrafx and an everdrive/ssds3.

  17. I blame that c64 monitor for making me always want the best monitor possible.

You are exactly right rgb modding requires tapping into the onscreen display.  It's not pvm quality but definitely a decent alternative especially with the price of pvm these days.

  18. Here is my setup the TV in the middle is a 20m4u and the Commodore on top is my original from 1987.  I used to play all my nes games on that same monitor.

Excuse the mess I just got the Amiga so I have been tinkering with it.  The pvm with the amiga is my 20m2u.  The Sony TV is a KV-27v42 that has been RGB modded.

  19. Hey guys very cool club.  I got my first PVM from a friend and it was a 14".  I was so blown away at the time I immediately started looking for a 20" set.  I got a lead on one and on a rainy December day in 2016 I drove to Austin from Dallas to pickup a 20m2u.  Since then I got into RGB modding consumer CRTs.  I currently have a 20m2u, 20m4u, and a 27" Consumer Sony that is RGB modded.  I tend to prefer playing on my consumer set since I prefer the bigger screen size.

  20. Very awesome story thanks for sharing.  I recently had the chance to work on a XM29 for a friend and I was blown away at how 480p looked with a dreamcast.  It is something that has to be seen.  My only negative with his set was a little loud because there are like 3 fans on this set.  That being said I would have driven very far to get one ha ha.

  21. For me it has always been the Amiga.  I had a commodore 64 as a kid and never did get an Amiga.  The games on there looked amazing at the time.  Every time I have considered getting into it just seemed like a such a money pit.

Recently and this is a lesson to all collectors.  Look out for your collector friends and karma will pay ya back.  I had a friend basically give me an Amiga cd32 for very cheap because it needed some work.  I have since got the system working and very slowly realizing my dream of playing Amiga games.  I don't anticipate collecting much for the system but I am really enjoying the games I have tried so far.
