I do enjoy the latter 3 on the NES, but whenever I want to get some Megaman going, I'm usually popping in MM3.  Some will disagree, but I think that one had the best mix of music/difficulty/playability and the slide rocks!! While it is indeed novel in it's own right, I just don't care for the charge shot in the latter games.  It throws off the whole flow of "jump & shoot".

I don't disagree with you. What's odd, is that even when learning about the objective coding and testing failures of the first three games, it doesn't seem to impact enjoyment. I love everything about the first six games, including what most people don't enjoy about the latter three. The latter three are my favorites.

I was pretty good at Street Fighter II.   The pause button was my Chun Li special move*.

I remember figuring out that you could beat the CPU ladder by pressing start on controller two, and then having player two select whichever character you were just facing. This little "cheat" blew my mind, lmao.

I've also heard Friday the 13th is fun if you play it in a very specific, non-intuitive way. I'll leave all these sorts of games for someone else.

Dude F13 is one of my favorite games. When you finally learn/figure out what the hell is actually going on/how the game works, you actually stalk Jason and can finish the game so easily. When it's rolling smoothly, it's low key one of the most underrated survival horror games for the NES!

I vote for The Krion Conquest! Somebody find that Francesca's Wand prototype, please.

Mega Man 2 will always be my favorite, but Mega Man 5 has grown on me over the years. The Proto Castle bosses are dull, but I like the 8 main robots, the shooter interlude on Wave Man's level, the Gravity Man stage, the soundtrack, and how the game just feels a little more consistent in its look than Mega Man 3 or 4.

Mega Man 5 is slowly growing on me. It plays vastly different from 4 and 6. It's very friendly with 1-ups, and a lot of the strategy can be less fulfilling. Still a top tier NES title regardless.

I love Swamp Thing!  Its not any much different from any of the other Imagineering/Simpsons games control wise.  I find his jumping fun!

It plays very similarly to The Simpsons games, for sure! The first level is a true nightmare lmao. You CAN progress if you accept/work with the games limitations. I don't think I've ever cleared the third level TBH.

Oh yeah, Swamp Thing has a kind of charm to it that makes it all the more heart breaking as that charm starts slowly slipping away and the frustration all comes boiling to the surface. What a great-idea-turned-horrible-missed-opportunity.

It totally had the potential to be a sleeper hit, kind of like Felix The Cat or something. The logo, box art, etc. are all phenomenal. What an s-load of f! 😎

You know, I've never really thought about it before but...I think Swamp Thing and Jekyll & Hyde might be comparable experiences in some respects. They both feature incredibly sluggish protagonists with impotent attacks. Frustrating and abusive enemy and level design. Questionable hit-detection.

I haven't spent as much time with Swamp Thing as Jekyll & Hyde but I wonder, putting them head-to-head, which I would find less terrible given a fair shake.

    I'd have to agree, honestly.

In its defense, Swamp Thing has an awesome intro. I remember getting a CIB copy of Swamp Thing in like, 1999. I definitely lost it and have no idea where it went; I know it's worth a penny or two now!

As a lad I had a recorded Mortal Kombat movie VHS.  One day I went to pop that guy in and wouldn’t you know it — someone had recorded Species over most of the movie.  That was a good day.

I remember borrowing a taped-from-TV copy of Bloodsport from my neighbor, and loving every second of it.

Especially the lousy cuts/edits around the commercials 😎.

Mortal Kombat like many others. I am probably in the minority here when I say to this day I am a huge Mortal Kombat fan!

Right there with you, friend. It's my favorite gaming universe ever. I grew up with it. UMK3 (arcade) is still one of my personal favorites to this day.

They’re all great games. I personally don’t love 1, but I still like it because it’s Megaman.

MM1 is very difficult and different. It's by far my least-played. I'm a bit burnt out on MM2 and MM3 if I'm being honest!
