  1. Just coming back to the hobby this is my first experience of frustration.  I get the price spikes and dips, always had them albeit now its exponential.  Its the capitalistic reselling mentality and the most prized grails just trading hands for constant profit.  This is what, the 2nd highest recorded sale behind SMB and the owner is already trying to flip it 5 months later?

5 months...... How much does this owner and his business partner really care for the actual game.  Next to nothing.

Sealed collectors back on NA set the roots for all of this, bronty, 1upped, jone, blarky, list goes on and on.  There was something so special when collectors rooted for one another and we had that tight community.  A few years later I joined NA as a new guy and they welcomed me with open arms.  Felt great to be a part of the journey.  Prices spiked back then too but it wasnt so artificial like this.  So I miss it.  Joining Instagram has helped quite a bit but its still not the same.

Anyways, I dont mind price spikes.  Its fun watching your graded games go up in value, but when the most prized grails are trading hands strictly for profit with no attachment to the actual game it just annoys the crap out of me.

    end rant.

Interesting explanation but they're not supposed to be grading collectibility, they're supposed to be grading the item on damage and a signature, whether authentic or not, is damage.

So what if I have the guy that did the graphics sign it? What about the guy that applied the cellophane wrapping? Arguably either of those people have more of a direct connection to the game than someone that merely licensed their likeness for the photo on the box. Would their signatures reduce the grade? What if it wasn't a signature but instead them writing their grocery list, would that reduce grade?

I don't think it should matter if it's authentic, they need to keep a constant grading scale, not reduce grades for some writing but not for others. Damage should be universal.

I get your opinion.  I’m just responding to your initial question about why they still graded it a 9 with writing on it since you followed up.

Nobody answered me. How did a box with marker on the front get graded a 9? I'm guessing the box wasn't perfect in ever other way and if it was, I'd expect a large portion of silver marker to take off more than a point. Is it graded out of 10?

I spoke to WATA directly and they stated because it is an authenticated autograph the signature on the box will not affect the grade itself.  The reason why it graded a 9 is because of the minor wear.  It has a significant bend back crease and some light scratching.  That is why I contacted them first.  If the signature were to affect the grade I wouldn’t have graded it to begin with and the only reason they were willing to grade it is because I had proof through PSA.

WATA is apparently coming out with some sort of signature series of their own but I don’t know details.

Ah, dang, I had a perfect conditioned copy of Azure Dream for the PS1.  I found it at Salvation Army.  The one major problem was that whomever purchased it left it in the sun, with 75% of the cover exposed to the sunlight.

If a framer frames a collector item, they really need to use U/V blocking glass.  I'm sorry man, I know I'd be disappointed too.

I actually did use museum glass but its the actual crappy sub frame inside that rubbed and discolored it.  So sad.

  5. About 10 years ago I had a cheap ass framing company frame it.  There was a sub frame inside the big frame that rubbed against the borders of the cover.  Finally took it out last week and see pics.  The entire border is discolored!  If it wasnt for the discoloration I think this copy would CGC at 9.2ish.  No bends/creases anywhere, every single page is mint, all inserts.  Couple tiny scuffs on the back.  The frame added a couple dings too.

    RIP.

  6. So Mike Tyson was doing a signing maybe 9-10 years ago near my house at a local memorabilia store.  Had him sign it for me in person and PSA had a booth right next to Mike to authenticate all the autos.  The tiny PSA sticker is on the inside of the top flap and I had WATA keep my PSA proof card separated from the case.

Was pretty cool meeting him he was pumped to see his game and faked a punch at my face. 😂

    Wata Games (Wata Games)

Hi Brian, thanks for reaching out! We do have plans to eventually launch our own version of a Signature Series for graded games. However, we recognize that there are a lot of games out there like yours that have already been signed before our program. Because of this we treat already signed games the following way: the signature will not affect the grade, and we will note on the label details something along the lines of "signature unverified by Wata, PSA Authenticated."  Just be sure that we have the proof we need to say that PSA authenticated it.
