The one that sold on Ebay today with the box n stuff doesn't look like mine if I'm not mistaken...the back plate on the one that sold today has a rev-a back sticker and the chips are not as old either...I'm not saying it's a fake...I'm simply saying it doesn't really match up "timeline wise" is all...so someone else with more knowledge then me can make that call 😁

I gave bad info on the ebay one. The PRG chip does have the 8746 date code. As far as the other chips, I wouldnt know if those are date codes or not but it makes sense that they would be.

I dont have the box...just the cart...have no clue what the box should look like...but what I'm saying is that the one that sold a day ago doesn't fit the timeline of the 5 to 3 screw change over really....the back plate and the date codes...I'm not saying that game is fake...I'm simply saying it doesn't really match up with things quite right...the box is whatever...you can put an orange bullet tyson 5 screw in the correct looking box...it doesn't really mean much unless it's a factory sealed box tho....you can do the same for a jaws or the gotcha...the box is kind of irrelevant in this case...that 5 screw gotcha that just sold jas a rev-a backplate and chips with 1988 dates....why though...I have two copies of gotcha 3 screws right now that dont have a rev-a back plate and earlier chip dates...see what I'm saying...in a perfect world a 5 screw game should have earlier chip dates then a 3 screw game...I DONT WANT TO GET INTO ALL THE ARGUING GUYS SO CALM DOWN HAHA....THATS WHY I SAID IN A PERFECT WORLD HAHA... but you see what I'm saying...a jaws 5 screw should not have a rev-a back plate with 1988 chips...😁😁😁

Didn’t mean to come off as if I was arguing. Truly just wanted more info. Thought I saw an earlier comment saying because mine didn’t say rev-a it meant it was faked. I was asking about your cart not box. Was asking if it said rev-a or not. I get thats not the end all be all since like you said a back can be swapped. Were you ever able to see what your date code was on your 5 screw gotcha?

So the back of yours doesn’t have rev-a?

I have a gotcha 5 screw...I'm sure I can open her up if it'll help you guys out any...but yeah....i agree...that one looks like someone tried and failed to replicate a real 5 screw...then tossed it in a lot to just get rid of it...sorry bud

Appreciate the help in any way. I didn’t buy it as legit, so luckily not financially invested. Would definitely be bummed if its not, but wanna do my due diligence. Found an old list from NA of the known copies. Just sent a message to Ferris and Ninja. If anyone knows if any of the others came over let me know.

Thanks for the update.  Looks like @Code Monkey called it.  The 5 screw Gotchas ive seen should have the date code on the PRG chip as 8748.  This one is 8819.  The rare 5 screw / 3 screw variants should all be late 87,  Theres a small possibility maybe it was a refurb but I would suspect this isn't legit.   Sorry!

*EDIT* I also just now noticed after posting this, I can see the left side of the label is lifting.  Didn't notice it before.  Def looks like a label transplant now, just VERY poor.

This one looks like it literally sold today on ebay. Has 8813? How is the date code read? Is this one legit in your opinion?

    ***Edit***

I was looking at the wrong chip. The one from ebay looks legit. Date code is 8746 not 8813.

i would imagine if someone was trying to fake one, they would try to fake one to a collector who would want it in good shape because who else other than a collector would want it?  I think there are some more than 'single digits' but a date code always helps.  Take a pic of the PCB

That’s my hope too. I’ll post picks of the board when I get home tonight.

It's obvious they were trying to make a fake one, I think there are only a single digit quantity in existence.

I’m thinking so, but hoping not. It wasnt listed or sold like it was. $100 lot with three games, a nes, and some controllers. Feels like too much work for a sale, but it’s definitely possible.

  8. I just picked up what looks to be a 5 screw gotcha. Label looks rough and like it was poorly glued on. At work so I haven’t opened it up yet, but are there any other indicators? Is the board different? Label different?

Edited to add more crusty label pics. Plastic is warped at the top seam and side.
