Yeah, but I'm afraid that Square-Enix might be one that dies out from this, considering they chose to refocus on strictly a select few AAA titles, as opposed to a wide array of A, AA and AAA titles.  Octopath Traveler as a series is probably dead, and now there's zero-chance that I'll get a proper Xenogears remake.

Square needs to get their head of the blockchain bucket as well, it just seems like a huge time and money sink for them.  Their mobile game offerings have also been pretty profitable, but you're right they don't seem to have much spread between cheap mobile and expensive AAA games anymore.

  2. Looks pretty good!  I have actually used a product called Novus 123 regularly for refinishing plastic to remove scratches.  Takes a steady hand and and some patience but you can get really good results.  Even managed to get some LaserDiscs with deeper scratches looking quite nice after I was done.

  3. Finally finished this monster of an episode, yay! Looks like I was right on the edge of when other systems were going to start on my last post.

Can agree with a lot of the ratings but I feel like Johnny was right about JP Game Gear, DefaultGen would love these boxes given the comments.  Same thickness of a JP GB box, but imagine if it was perfectly square.  It's almost the same dimensions of a FDS game but a bit bigger, they are just super cute with pretty good art most of the time and store and display so well.

I was also surprised Vita was scored down especially since one of you has a full set.  Case is a bit flimsy but I love the size and display on the shelf.  The blue is a nice color along the top to make it look consistent, but you get variety with the labels and titles are still big enough to read.

  4. Yeah I'd say everything minus Cosmic Spacehead is maybe worth $75 max.  If the GG still kind of operates and only needs caps maybe a bit more.

As mentioned above, Cosmic Spacehead is a less common game in the US, and probably in the middle in terms of Codemasters rarity.  The drop off between CIB and loose or loose+ manual for rarer games in GG is huge though.

There's a lot of these up on ebay loose right now so your competition will be higher to sell it.  I'd put cart and manual at maybe $150-$175 in value myself.

I'm going to count my Super A'Can collection as pretty high up there. I bought some of it from a seller in England, and was one of the other bidders in the auction you got your copy of Rebel from. If I had known it would have gone that high, I would have bid even higher... 🙂 Seriously though congrats on winning that one. I completed the collection otherwise with what I won in that auction and have a spare copy of Formosa Duel sitting around as a loose cart that could always be turned into a repro since it has the proper security chip on the cart already and I've seen some info on how the carts work before. I would have to burn through a few million before I would be willing to sell this.

There's also my Pioneer Laseractive with ALL the modules. PCE, Megadrive, and even the Karaoke. Nevermind the telenovela in the pic. I'm out of state selling off my late family's stuff this week and can't go to my gaming house to take fresher pictures. Yes, I have multiple homes.

I don't have a fresh pic of my Turbo R setup handy but that one is special to me too. Got that hooked up to an old Amiga monitor right now that can handle both NTSC and PAL signals at 60Hz or 50Hz, with a TRH9000 and a MegaFlashRom SCC+ SD. I was obsessed with MSXes back in the day and this was the pinnacle of it. Everyone in that community always wanted one of those. I'll add pics when I get back into town sometime next week.

Besides those grails I have a special affection for my Tower of Power setup as NONE of it is secondhand. I bought the Genesis with my allowance when I was 12, and the Sega CD 2 and the 32X as they were released. Got a great deal on the 32X, because it was going nowhere, but it was worth it to play Virtua Fighter at home. I'll edit with pics of this too later.

While in town on this trip, I actually stumbled across a CD copy of Knights of Xentar. Couldn't pass that up as I played that growing up when I probably shouldn't have been playing such things! I used to see it all the time on the shelves at the mall but never dared to try to buy it.

That picture is also a great example of how big the PS5 is, when it goes toe-to-toe with a LaserActive in terms of size you are saying something.

If you ever install/play it, Knights of Xentar also has a "patch diskette" which you could run to change version of the game into an unrated version.  Pretty sure the files are out there on the internet.

I might have been the one who expressed appreciation for the Oddysey2 box art.

I absolutely love the 70s neon black-art poster aesthetic of the front covers

The spines couldn't be more dull... and they are annoyingly wide too.

I'm a fan of gate-fold covers and the compartment for the cartridges... (Which also rock) Love carts with handles!!  Just a nifty little package overall. The boxes do seem to be prone to getting dinged up tho'.

I also agree, I love the look of Odyssey2 box art.  It's like the perfect feel of 70s nostalgia and slick consistent visuals when you look at the art.  The boxes also aren't too big, my biggest knock is they all want to seem to come apart at the  tray folds unless you've got a nice crisp box.

Haven't finished the episode yet though lol, I am like halfway through and except for a couple in the beginning it's all been Nintendo so I got burned out and will return to it later.  I think I was expecting it to be more of a time released based order.

I've always been a huge fan of animation.  Over the last year or so I've been collecting adult and foreign animated movies on UHD, BD and DVD.  I've basically gone down this Wikipedia list of adult animated films, and if the movie has a physical release I've tried to find it in the highest resolution released.  Then, I watched them all chronologically.

It's been quite the journey.  There are some amazing movies that I'd never heard of - the first one that comes to mind is Loving Vincent, a movie about van Gogh where EVERY FRAME of animation is an oil-on-canvas painting.  It took over 100 painters years of work to produce which is just mind-blowing to me.  And there are some movies so terrible you just have to laugh.  I, uh, won't expound on those!

This is a cool checklist of films.  I remember seeing a number of Bakshi stuff my friend recommended over the years, but it looks like there are plenty of other neat ones.  I actually wanted Fantastic Plant on Max before I cancelled my subscription and it was a fun and weird experience.

  8. Just had to loop back here as a Nall (from Lunar) plush and poster came up for sale recently and it ended at a whopping $1425.  Craziest price I have seen on it so far (the poster is also in big demand too), but it has also been awhile since one was listed.  If you guys do an updated collectibles episode you've got a new thing to talk about besides the Elephant card.

  9. I still consider game collecting a niche collecting hobby compared to others given how long it has been around, so whenever I see something about game collecting on mainstream TV it  still seems novel to me.
I didn't see a thread for when people have spotted retro game collecting stuff shown on TV or other media, so I figured it would be fun to see if anyone else has come across it and post snippets.

Anyway, saw this last night on Antiques Roadshow in the Feedback booth.  First time I have seen Saturn games on television in years!

  10. Up until 2019 or so I used to do really well at Gamestop for just some of my time.  I'd follow the CAG thread about deals and flips for trade ins, and I could literally go from one to the next in a loop buying stuff, trading it in, and coming out with additional funds since there were 8 Gamestops in my nearby area.

I turned maybe a $250 initial investment into thousands in trade credit over time, it was nuts that it worked. Plus none of the employees really cared because I would rate well and buy the occasional GPGs to help them out.

    Sounds great.

At that price does it deal with deductions or income streams besides just W-2 wages/salary? Do you need to know about deductions or does it tell you? I might spend $5-10K on a construction contract for my multi-unit home, would it find credits for something like that? Green energy installs?

My own taxes are "relatively" simple.  Mainly W2s, various 1099s, investments, schedule C, and deductions around kids.  I don't know how good it is about finding credits, especially on a local/state level, but as I went through it basically asks you a ton of questions about your year and if it pertains to you if you want.

And btw, I agree it is ridiculous how complex they make this in general when they are clearly lobbied by interests to keep it too obtuse for general people.

Wait... are you saying video game collector's actually go to GameStop 🤔

Man, I probably got over 80% of my Wii U collection, and at least half of my Vita collection from Gamestop.  Plus plenty of other stuff over the years when they were doing clearance sales.  I bought so much Wii junk from them one time too, it was disgusting looking back on it.  😆

Yeah, maybe the $100s covers your filing?  I don't know.  That would be cheaper for sure.  Perhaps @xelement5x can tell us if a filing fee is still required when using the client app.

So when I paid for the TurboTax software I get the physical CD (lol how fitting for this forum, maybe I can sending it to WATA for CIB grading later), then install it in my PC.  I does a whole walkthrough of how and what to fill out with the application, then saves your return as a specific file that's read by the software.  Also if you used it previously when you start up you can point it to last years return and it'll import all your basic info about your family and businesses from last year.

Filing for the Federal side is free, I had to pay $25 to file with my state, but buying it from Costco in the physical form they give you a $10 "credit" of sorts so I really only paid $15 to file my state taxes.  Actually just got my state refund the other day, now to spend it again at Costco 😛
