Reed Rothchild 3,897 Editorials Team ·
We all have gigantic backlogs, right? Dozens of games. Hundreds of games. Thousands of games. We've always wanted to play our dusty copy of Dragon Warrior 2, because everyone tells us it's a stone-cold classic. But who has the time, right? Well let's make the time. Participating users will initially create one post in this thread. They will use this post to come up with a list of games that they want to finally beat in 2021. The list can be as big or small as you want. 5 games? Fine. 10 games? Better. 25 games? Go for it. Please use that same post to make updates and track your progress throughout the year. That way it will be much easier to see how everyone is doing. You can still make new posts to notify everyone of updates, or discuss whatever you want, but let's have everyone track their progress in their OP. What constitutes 'beating' a game? That's up to you. What games are in scope? All of them. Can you amend your list later? NO. I mean, beat whatever games you want, but for the spirit and scope of this thread let's stick to our original goal. Try to have your list together by January 1st. Once it's posted and the new year begins, consider it final. Further clarifications as I think of them.

Resident Evil Zero (Switch) - beat 19. Planescape Torment (Switch) - unbeaten20. Disgaea 4 (Switch) - beat 1/1 Update: Started Disgaea 4 Beat Shinobi III on Easy. Man, that final level in Shinobi is no joke. I'm honestly kinda scared of trying to do it on Normal right now. I'll come back to it later... 1/10 Update: Started Castlevania, but it locked up on Death's stage. Same thing happened to me a few years ago. 1/17 Update: Beat Castlevania. I had to do the Holy Water trick on Death. And thank God for the checkpoint before Dracula, who turned out to be reasonably easy once you learn the pattern. 1/20 Update: Beat Disgaea 4. Probably my fasted Disgaea clear since I didn't spend too much time in the Item World. Started Castlevania II. 1/22 Update: Beat Castlevania II. I used a guide. I knew the reputation, and wasn't gonna wander around aimlessly for hours on end. Started Castlevania III 1/23 Update: Started Resident Evil Zero 2/2 Update: Beat Resident Evil Zero. Pretty much cribbs everything from REmake. Still fun though. 3/5 Update: Started Zelda II Started Rock n Roll Racing 3/11 Update: Beat Rock n Roll Racing. Mercifully shorter than RPM Racing, but still a ton of races to get through. Started Equinox. 3/14 Update: Beat Equinox. I clear most of it once upon a time and remembered a lot of the tricks. I used a guide to help steer me in the right direction in the last few dungeons though. Those things are no joke, especially without maps... Started Sparkster, beat it on Easy. 3/15 Update: Beat Sparkster on Normal. 3/20 Update: Started and beat Splatterhouse 2. Thank God for continues. Started and beat Ghouls n Ghosts. Thank God for continues. Started Shadowrun. 3/27 Update: Beat Shadowrun. This would be a really tough completion without at least consulting a guide. The rest of my thoughts I'll save for the inevitable write-up. 4/1 Update: Started Gargoyle's Quest. 4

TDIRunner 1,029 Member ·
I love this idea. I'm in too. I'll try to get a list together this week. Edit: This will be my official list. One of my goals was to keep my list short, but realistic. Part 1 is a list of games I've never played before other than maybe the first 10 minutes or so. All of these are games that I've always wanted to play but for whatever reason, never got around to. Resident Evil 3 (will play the PS1 version on original hardware) Tomb Raider III (will play the PS1 version on original hardware) Super Mario RPG (will play on original hardware) Okami (I plan to play the HD version on PS4) Part 2 is a list is games that I've played before, possibly as far as 80%, but I've never finished. I love all of these games, but for whatever reason, something came up that caused me to stop playing, and enough time passed that I didn't want to pick it back up in the middle of a long session. My plan is to start each of these games from the beginning. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (will play SNES version on original hardware) Journey (will play PS3 version on original hardware) Axiom Verge (will play PS4 version on original hardware) Not sure on the order yet. I will decide that as I go. And I will update this list throughout the year with my progress. Wish me luck.

Pretty much just the NES game, but with good controls and awesome music remixes. Not worth bothering with for anything outside the completely traditional battle mode.5/1 update Unfortunately I'll have to postpone the intended next step in my Bomberman journey. Bomberman Online turns out to be pretty much impossible to control effectively with the Dreamcast's stock controller, so it's sent on hiatus until I find an alternative way to play it. However, I finished off the final boss in Metal Wolf Chaos XD, what a ride that game was.7/1 update I beat 100% of Bomberman Max 2. That's "80% completion" because the game wants you to play both nearly identical versions of the game for the best ending. I say screw that, and consider this one done.11/1 update Working on the next Bomberman game, it's not very interesting. Started Yakuza 4. Spent 6 hours so far and I'm 3% into the game by its own report. Looks like this one is gonna take a while.16/1 update I finally finished Yakuza 4, and according to the game I only played 22% of it despite spending many, many hours doing pointless side content. I might go back just to try out how the golf minigame works, but I think instead I'll push Yakuza 5 and more into my 2021 plan, just to see how the series progresses, but that's gonna put the planned backlog on hold for a while.20/1 update Bomberman Generation is pretty boring, so in the meantime I finished Pocket Bomberman, which is a super fun game, but also way too short.3/2 update After spending time with a bunch of games not even on my list (cyber shadow, gb donkey kong, yakuza 5), I've now started on Legend of The Mystical Ninja. I've pulled up the game a few times before, but never played it far. It's time to beat it.6/2 updateLegend of the Mystical Ninja is down. Much better game than my previous impressions, and a lot more action oriented than I'd thought. It does a few really annoying things, and has hitbox issues, but overall it's a very unique and refreshing approach to game design.8/2 updateYoku's Island Express is a really damn fun take on the typical indie metroidvania. Cute, charming designs, and a fun world to explore, and even though I would have liked some more satisfying physics, the pinball mechanics really make it unique. (Also the VR games Boneworks and Half-Life: Alyx are honorary members of this list, however I want to wait until I upgrade my PC to play those, and I'm not 100% sure if that's gonna happen this year.) Mumphy 57 Member ·
Awesome initiative. I'll be aiming for 24 games to finish, which means two games/month. Some games I have already made progress in, but most games are not started. VIRTUAL BOY Virtual Boy Wario Land [link] Red Alarm [link] Galactic Pinball [link] Vertical Force [link] NINTENDO 64 Ridge Racer 64 [link] Conker's Bad Fur Day [link] F-Zero X [link] NINTENDO SWITCH The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild [link]This one has been in the back of my mind for a long time, probably over a year. I beat three divine beasts, but for some reason this game then got paused. PLAYSTATION 4 Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice [link]From what I understand this game has permadeath. Should I die and the game end, I will consider this game beaten/finished. I'm already a couple of hours in. Doom (2016) [link] Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus [link] The Order: 1886 [link] Unravel TWO [link] Titanfall 2 [link] Battlefield 1 [link] I gave this about 30min. It's not for me I will not finish this game. PC Limbo [link] BEATEN 30/1 - 21For some reason I never finished this game and I'm really close to the end. Ok, I was literally five minutes from finishing the game, haha. Started it almost ten years ago, for some reason stopped, and now finally I can let this one go (yey). It was a good game, as was "Inside". Samorost 3 [link] Brothers - A tale of Two Sons [link] Firewatch [link] Little Nightmares [link] Hotline Miami [link] The Stanley Parable [link] OCULUS QUEST 2 Virtual Virtual Reality [link] Trover Saves the Universe [link] Edited January 30 by Mumphy

DoctorEncore 2,246 Member ·
I'm gonna go ahead and start typing a bunch of games I'd like to beat knowing full well I will not do that. I'm basically sticking to newer games rather than true retro stuff. Currently Playing: Hollow Knight (Switch) Demon's Souls (PS5) Borderlands 3 - Co-op (XSX) Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge Special Edition (360 on XSX) Upcoming: Resident Evil 2&3 Remakes (XBO) Final Fantasy 7 Remake (PS4 or XBO if it releases this year) Shadow of the Tomb Raider (XBO) Bioshock Infinite Remastered (XBO) Mass Effect 3 (360 or XBO?) Mass Effect Andromeda (XBO) Last of Us 1&2 (PS4) Dead Space 1-3 (360) Sunset Overdrive (XBO) Psychonauts (Xbox) Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge Special Edition (360) Streets of Rage 4 (XBO) Borderlands 3 (XBO) Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (Switch) Yoshi's Crafted World (Switch) Doom Eternal (XSX; waiting for upgrade) Bravely Default (3DS) Witcher 3 (XSX; waiting for upgrade) Cyberpunk 2077 (XSX; waiting for upgrade) Uncharted Lost Legacy (PS4) Metal Gear Solid 2-5 (360/XBO) Death Stranding (PS4) Octopath Traveler (Switch) Xenoblade Chronicles 1&2&X (Switch/Wii U) Vanquish (XBO) Bayonetta 1-2 (XBO/Switch) Neir 1-2 (XBO; awaiting Replicant remaster) Completed: Assassin's Creed Valhalla (XSX - 1/23/2021) Paper Mario: Origami King (Switch - 3/8/21) Naughty List: Cyber Shadow (XSX - 2/4/21) The Medium (XSX - 3/1/21) Tetris Effect - Journey Mode (XSX - 3/12/21) I will consider my 2021 in gaming a success if I beat 5 of these games. I may come back and reorder the list in terms of priority. Edited March 19 by DoctorEncore
Mr. CIB 239 Member ·
Alright here is my first stab! I have been a hardcore collector the last 20 years and not a gamer so I'm behind. I may have really played 5 games over the same time period but now that my collecting journey is done (maybe 2 games to purchase and some NES, SNES and N64 inserts) this thread came at the perfect time. Hide contents CURRENT STATUS: 13/32 40% complete (also completed 7 not on the list) COMPLETED Metal Slug (Neo Geo AES)- never played COMPLETE 1/2 (with help from player 1 my son) Elevator Action Returns (Taito F3) - played with my son (then 4 year old now 5) and we didn’t finish. we need to run it back - COMPLETE 1/3 (tag team with my son; took it out on our first try) no ending scene kinda sucked. Hotline Miami 2 (Switch) - never played COMPLETE 1/11 Mega Man (NES) - I think I played as kid but don't remember. COMPLETED 1/15 Donkey Kong County (SNES)- never played COMPLETE 1/28 Last of Us (PS4) - never played - COMPLETED 2/1 -well this is one hell of a game. I never played modern games prior to this..... woof there is a lot of talking but overall its a great game once you get into it and start to pick up the game controls. Portal 2 (XBox 360)- never played COMPLETED 2/16 Splatterhouse (TG16) - never played but remember playing Bonk. COMPLETED 2/18 A Way Out (Xbox One) - COMPLETED 2/20 with my 5 year old son Castlevania (NES) - COMPLETED 2/23 most frustrating so far due to no saves. Street of Rage (Genesis)- COMPLETED 2/26 Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox) - one of the last games I remember playing before stopping COMPLETED 3/3 Nights into Dreams (Saturn) COMPLETED 3/13 first Saturn game I played and beat REMAINING Astro Bot VR (PSVR) - Headset is setting here; time to give it a try Chrono Trigger (SNES)- never played Conkers Bad Fur Day (N64)- never played Faxanadu (NES) - played as a kid; don't remember if I beat God of War (PS2) - never played Goonies II (NES) - loved as a kid but don't remember beating Grand Thief Auto: Vice City (Xbox)- never played Journey (PS3) - never played Kid Icarus (NES) - played as a kid; don't remember if I beat Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64) - never played Luigi Mansion (GameCube) - never played the GameCube Metal Gear (NES) - played as a kid; don't remember if I beat Metroid (NES) - hated as a kid and need to get thru it Red Dead Redemption (PS3)- never played Resident Evil (GameCube was original PS1 but don’t have) - never played Silent Hill (PS1) - never played Sunset Overdrive (XBox One)- never played Super Mario Bros (NES) - I never beat as a kid Wonder Boy (SMS) - played as a kid but don’t remember beating VETO Nothing yet but got close with Nights into Dreams. 2021 Here I come! 1/1 Update Going to test my setup to make sure everything is operational before I get rolling. May take a group photo of all the games and display them (keep them insight so I can follow through). Haven’t decided on what game yet. 1/2 Update Ok most systems checked out well. The OG XBox time isn’t holding the date & time so it seems I need to replace a capacitor.... that should be fun. I spent the last few years building my ultimate gaming setup with everything google voice controlled, all systems hooked up with either SCART or HDMI .....ready to go in a moments notice so it was fun to see it all come together as planned. I got all the homies together for a group photo at the bar. Figure good time to start on a Saturday morning like back in the day. Now it’s time to see who’s first! UPDATE: Metal Slug first to go! Decide to take on a short game first. 1/3 Update We took out Elevator Action II. The ending was horrible so my son said let’s play Metal Slug 2 so we did. I actually liked it much more than MS1. Now that arcade based games are out the way back to Shakedown Hawaii 2. 1/11 Update Still plugging along in Hotline Miami 2! My son and I did knock out Metal Slug 2, X, 3, 4, 5 and 6 (not on the list) was tired of playing Metal Slug and I swore I dozed off once in MS4. Anyhow still plugging along. I should have Hotline Miami 2 done by the weekend. 1/12 Update Completed Hotline Miami 2. Cool game but gets to be a drag towards the end. Not sure what’s next 1/15 Update Completed Mega Man 1. Once I got rolling I remembered playing as a kid and then what weapon helps beat the stage boss the best. Amazing how memory comes back. It was honestly a lot of fun and what I dreamed of when I set out to collect games... pull on old classic off the shelf with easy controls. What’s next..... no clue. 1/28 Update Well finally knocked out Donkey Kong Country. Cool game and decent challenge. Off to the Last of US remastered on the PS4 or Resident Evil on the GameCube. 2/1 Update Completed Last of Us Remastered. Must say one of the best games I’ve ever played. Now off to something lighter. Maybe Splatterhouse or Conkers 2/10 Update I decided to complete Last of Us Part II (not on the list). After that experience Splatterhouse is next. 2/16 Update Shifted to play up Portal 2.... it was a grind and not my cup of tea but I got it completed. Now off to Splatterhouse. 2/18 Update Knocked out Splatterhouse today. I truly can appreciate a short and sweet game. I prefer this style to the hours long grind of new gen. What next????? No clue 2/20 Update Finished up A Way Out. Great game. Not sure what’s next. 2/23 Update Completed Castlevania. I got beyond frustrated with the game that the game couldn’t save allowing me come back to it. 2/26 Update My daughter stepped up when my son flaked out on me and we knocked out Streets of Rage. Cool beat ‘em up. 3/3 Update Finished by Halo. Great game and everything from what I remembered when I last played in 2002. 3/12 Update Veto Nights into Dreams after 4+ hours of play only to find out I need a C on every level. I wish they made this clear up front. Can’t be bothered 3/13 Update Got my act together and beat Nights this morning. Just hated to redo all the stages because the the grades but I got it done. First Saturn game I played and beat. Edited March 13 by Mr. CIB
