FooFghtrs33 | 16
I would second what @jonebone said. 7.5 chrono box most likely. And the carts throw me for a loop as well. I focus likely too Much on the actual label and miss other defects. But the label likely needs like no scratching / scuffing in all light angles for a 9 or higher. getting in the 9s on any component of a CIB requires it to be truly mint and look virtually unused. here is an 8.5 chrono box. The defects I can describe are 1 side hinge wear (wasn’t opened on the other ) , slight front of box warping (like pressed into the middle), and I believe I recall the inner flap having some pressing. Excellent information! Thank you! Do we have any details on how much box warping may affect grade? Chrono isn’t warped but just curious. For my Chrono box I was hoping it would get an 8.5, but it sounds like I should be hoping it gets an 8.0 and doesn’t drop below. Would you say the Majora’s Mask box I posted is a 9, or is it likely an 8.5? Edited October 20, 2020 by DeuceGamer
3rdStrongestMole | 430
I don't know if these images will help, but Wata always keeps pre graded pics. Decent resolution. SMB: C=9.8 I=9.0 B=7.5. Zelda 2: C= 9.0 I= 8.0 B=8.0 Zelda had two paint specks on the box and a decent nick on the side. That killed it. SMB was more just minor scuffing. Enough to crush the grade Edited October 21, 2020 by 3rdStrongestMole

Enough to crush the grade I have to be honest that Super Mario Box looks like it’s in better shape, though I get it’s not covered from every angle. Wondering if I should just bite the bullet and look for a copy already graded at this point.

Buying graded is pricier and you'll get what you want, but it's not as exciting

That's what I do. It takes the guesswork out of the equation.

I keep going back and forth so I think the best option may be just to sit tight on Chrono for now until I make up my mind on the best way to proceed. In the meantime I could send in a few of the games that I feel would score higher, like the Majora’s Mask and some sealed titles. That will allow me to get experience with grading and something could always fall in my lap during that time frame. Thanks everyone for the replies and feel free to keep discussing different grades and pieces as I still find it helpful. Once you feel like you've gotten the idea of how they grade CIB games, you can decide if it's worth submitting them yourself or if you want to buy them already graded.
