The first round of the playoffs being best 2 out of 3 makes it too likely for the top teams to get knocked out early. With only 60 games, I guess that was the only option since there was no way to tell which teams would have cooled off or gotten hot over the course of a full season. I still think the first round of the playoffs should have been a best of 5, but I'm guessing they are trying to fit all of these games in a small window of time.
