VGS Weekly Contest - Tetris

Recommended Posts

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, IT IS TIME!
IT IS TIME FOR TETRIS!!!

This year, we will do things a bit different and we will follow the rules for Classic Tetris World Championship since the skill of our players is so high!
With no further ado, here's the RULES:

  • Play on type A
  • Start at level 15  (I am being VERY kind to you all) - Hold A while picking level 5 to pick level 15
  • Highest score wins
  • In case two or more players reach 999,999 points, the one that reached it on the lowest level will win
  • Participation: 9,000 (half the score value of a tetris on level 15)
  • Genre: Puzzle

The contest ends Sunday, 08/02/20 at 11 PM VGS time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun.

Level 15! Nice.

I was prepared for level 18 starts but 15 is much easier. I don't mind.

I wonder if there will be any maxouts this week.

BTW, for anyone who is unfamiliar about how to start at level 15, you just hold A while selecting level 5.

Level 15 may be a bit too easy of a start level, but alas.
I'd much rather have a level 18 start, but I woke up feeling kind.

I haven't played this in years and I broke 100k on my third try. It's @mbd39's fault for telling me to post a participation score. I used to be able to hit 400k regularly back in the day.

Beginners shouldn't start at level 1 anyway. There's a jolting speed increase every 10 lines. It's better to start at level 7 or even 9 where you can make a bunch of lines before it gets faster.

Level 15 starts will be rough for those who don't play this much. Just be glad it's not 18 where most people will last 30 seconds.

@docile tapeworm is used to playing for 30 seconds each week to get his scores.
