Going through DQVIII for the first time and just picked up a 4th party. Really enjoying this one so far. Anyone else played through this one?

3DS or PS2? DQ VIII was my first console DQ. I started with DQM on Gameboy after I finished with Pokemon R/B, then got 1-3 on Gameboy Color.

Yes; you gotta love Jessica's sex appeal 😄  And how she said (I think) in among the first party chats that her pearl clutching mother thought her dress was vulgar 😛   And isn't it the 3DS version only that you can choose who you want to marry?  And how just like that famous Tales of Phantasia scene, which one would you rather take under the sheets...the one has that quiet, gentle, graceful elegance about her or the other one I bet who f's like a tiger! 😄  *some of you looking at me funny*  What?  It's just locker room talk, you know, male bonding? 😄

And in other news all I like in DQ11 is the silver trophies for getting all the appearance changing items and for getting the final trial, the gold for beating the final boss (the real one) and the bronzes (those should be at least silver; perhaps a gold for maxing out everyone) for maxing out each character.  Wow, I could actually very well get my first platinum!  I sure hope I can and do!

DQ VII is a good one to play also.  Personally I like it better than VIII.  Though VIII is still awesome.

Maybe it was just me or maybe I really suck or something...but DQ7 was quite hard and I had to do a lot of grinding.

DQ is grinding, hard, not sure I haven't touched it (3DS) one in some years now.

I did the original PS1 version.  I wish there was a way you could have more than one special town or at least be able to switch them more easily.  Because the casino one and the mega shopping mall ones (sorry I forget the right names) seemingly had the best items, and I bet each one had many exclusive ones which is quite frustrating for someone like myself who is well used to the idea that to be able to say you've truly beat a game like this you just "gotta catch 'em all" (collectible items/equipment/etc).

Making my way through SMT: Soul Hackers. It's quite brisk and has a cool look, although I just had a slog of a fight with a demon dolphin. I'm sure there was a trick to the fight but I ended up winning via battle of attrition in the end with my magic doing no damage, my physical attacks doing very little damage and the boss spamming sleep spells until he ran out of MP.

Serves 'em right, that bastard.

I do really enjoy 16 bit rpgs. I'm replaying Chrono Trigger right now, and I love how much stuff happens in such a short time. I'm 4 hours deep and I already saved Marle in the past, broke out of prison after being unfairly sentenced to die, and am currently exploring an apocalyptic future. This many things never happens in such a short time in the ps3 era!

Still playing SMT Soul Hackers and just had a brutal battle with a boss in the Algon Microelectronics building. Dude was wrecking my shit to the point I had to retreat back to base and fuse some more demons that had the required healing, buff and debuff spells to handle his attacks. I admit I got a little lazy when it came to status related spells in my pursuit of stronger demons, a mistake I won't make twice!

He's down now though, onwards and upwards 🙂

Well isn't the 16-bit era (SNES in particular) the golden age of RPGs?

Wouldn't "golden age" of crpgs be contemporary to the SSI gold box games? (Also the time of Might and Magic, Wizardry, Ultima)

On a personal level its the late 90s-early 2000s for me but I've seen the 80s and late 90s be described as the first and second golden age of RPGs more than a few times 🙂

The nice thing about crpgs is that there has been a steady flow if good content pretty much since the beginning.

And major Indies like Spiderweb have more or less maintained their classic styles through the years.

Aye, I had a great time with Paper Sorceror last year and that's under a fiver on Steam! RPGs are in a great place right now, there's actually too many for me to play.
