Which PS3's did you have?  I got the latest model, the Super Slim 500GB...hopefully that is the best kind right?

I've tried just about every style and have managed to fuck em all, though some of em I bought used, so they may have already been buggy.

All the more reason I made sure to get it new a few years back ($220) while I still had the chance.

Yes, I like to have real games on real discs/cartridges.  Not fake download ones that can go "poof" after only a few years when the company no longer "feels like" supporting it.

You don't even get a discount for getting the downloaded version either!  From the very start I wondered why you don't get at least $10 off for not getting the real physical game.  I mean isn't the idea to save on the cost of making the disc/manual/case/wrapping/shipping/etc?  So why the heck not shouldn't some of that savings get passed down to the consumer?

No argument out of me I've been saying it for years now.  I confuse people as I call them rentals and that people who see that button and click BUY are being lied to.  I wish really due to how the games were licensed politicians would regulate these online stores and force them to call them rentals, have a RENT button, you're not buying shit other than a temporary space of time where you control the object (ie: renting.)  That's why I said, Saga is fine but I think the 2 PSP games are not physical, so that one origin package which is super cheap used is the way to go on those two.  I've gone out of my way over the years, even if it means importing, to get a non-rental release.  I Am Setsuna was one for the Switch in more recent times.

I did the same.  I bought one of the last PS3 models before they were gone off the shelves (same with the Wii U for that matter).

I did in fact wait very patiently for the price to drop to like $150 or something like seemingly all the other consoles before did...I mean seriously if the WiiU was such an underachiever then why didn't Nintendo drop them down to $150 or even less to get rid of them as part of their Switch transition?

This is good.

Well me putting off giving it some real love for 3-4 years and not even getting my first PS4 game until I had the Pro for about two years...that's NOT good and down right silly 😞  It's just that I had other projects and hobbies and such going on...

But just like the 23 years Zelda guy, better late than never right?

Platinums are unlocked by obtaining all the other trophies on a game, yeah. Some games can heat up certain console variations, and I got unlucky. I was a pretty addicted trophy hunter for a long time, so was using my PS3 daily, often upwards of 4-8 hours plus.

I think there should be other kinds of platinums besides get all the other trophies though.  I mean what if it's beating a really tough super secret superboss or something (usually just beating the regular Story Mode final boss is worth a gold right?)?  And are there any real guidelines as to what achievements (oh sorry that's an Xbox thing) should count as a bronze or silver or gold?  Or is it entirely up to the game creator?

Sry, I didn't read through the past threads tonsee if these were covered, but I have been playing through my ps3 library a bit and have some suggestions.

These are known games, but even better, I think they are fun.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma

Dead Space 1, 2

Batman Arkam Asylum. (Arkham City seems good if you up the difficulty, but its almost a little to slow with the increased difficulty.)

Killzone 2

For those offering suggestions could you please give me a brief description of the game and why you enjoyed it?  Not just listing the title(s) only?  Rest assured I'll have my hands quite full with my current PS3/PS4 lineup but it doesn't hurt find out more about what PS3/PS4 offers right?

And do you guys think I'm crazy or really missing out for choosing not to do online gaming?  It's just that I always felt much more comfortable going at my own pace and just having my kitty by my side 🙂  The last thing I want is to say, enter an online game, get deleted/killed inside of a few minutes with people screaming NOOB!!!! at me.  Never mind the fact that I've been gaming (since 1990 when I got my first NES) since before most of those punks were in diapers (as an infamous former governor was known for saying) 😛

I had a discussion about this on VGS not that long ago.  I was disappointed that the Wii U never dropped in price, but ultimately, the reason the price didn't drop is because Nintendo didn't need to drop it.  It's not like there was an overabundance of Wii U's sitting on the shelf.  Nintendo seemed to realize early on that it wasn't working, and I think the production was adjusted accordingly.  It sucks because I waited until the very end to get a Wii U, and I still paid nearly as much as people who bought them at launch.  I think they were only priced $50 lower than launch, plus Target at the time had a cyber Monday deal to get 20% off.  So I got a good deal, but not enough of a deal to justify waiting as long as I did to buy it.

I did it!  I broke a hundred!  110 to be exact (87 bronze, 17 silver, 6 gold...the silver/gold matches me and my wife's anniversary, 6/17!).  Yeah I guess it's not much to brag about but it gives me a good excuse to post this classic Peanuts strip from May 13, 1962:

The Saboteur - Is Assassins Creed meets Grand Theft Auto. Set in German occupied France. Where you are an Irish racer/gun for hire with the French Resistance.

God of Wars - Blood and guts action fun. Side note, The collection games are fairly easy to platinum.

Gran Turismo 5 - For your racing sim fix.

I DO in fact have Gran Turismo 5!  Not so sure if I'm much a sim driver to get very far though...obviously it's meant to be like realistically driving a vehicle (it's NOT an arcade racer like Mario Kart) and I'm not even a licensed driver.  Maybe I should do the previous four first?

So at long last I'm finally after all these many years doing my first REAL 8th gen/PS4 game (not counting remakes), Dragon Quest 11!  And I definitely think I'm getting my $25 (yes it was new) worth so far!  To try to keep the spoilers down to a minimum, I've now made it to the part where you get everyone into your party (I think) and where you're about to have access to the open sea.  Some interesting observations:

1. This shouldn't count as a spoiler because it happens right at the start...apparently they took a page out of the Ten Commandments and start you out as Baby Moses.  That is, you're sent up a river as a baby in a basket with a note...of course when the game starts you're almost grown up!

2. You know how I've gone on record as saying I think female characters in RPG/quest sorts of games (the ones on your main team I mean) are usually more interesting, and why I'm quite skeptical about Final Fantasy 15 having an all male cast who all look pretty much the same?  Well, in this game you sort of get a combo pack...you get a cute Little Red Riding Hood looking girl, a classic Disney Princess sort of girl like DQ5's Nera/Flora (no really this one here in DQ11 really could pass for one), and of course the fan service sexy chick, just as we got with Jessica in DQ8. 😄

3. Not one, but two all-time great singers get shout-outs in this game, sort of.  One of the mini-quests involves making wedding ring and sure enough it makes the title...

And another one of the characters after winning a battle likes to mention this a lot...

So yeah, they are now forever immortalized in the granddaddy of all JRPG series!

4. And the Little Red Riding Hood girl if you use party talk, I kid you not, likes to say this sometimes...

As for the casino (sadly I'm only allowed in the first one at the moment and it only lets you play ten token slots/poker) I started out with 100 tokens, and was able to turn into 6700 tokens...but get this I managed to score well over 100 silver spins in a row (some were free spins!) and easily doubled that!  That's not even counting me hitting the FIVE SEVEN SILVER SPIN JACKPOT worth a cool 200,000 tokens...on a ten token machine (30 tokens on each of the three lines so 90 tokens per spin)!  So you bet I was able to buy out that first casino's prizes!

That big boss you fight right before you get your last two main characters though still gave me a tough fight though...because it was one of those gets two turns at a time sort of deals (it's an infamous DQ tradition)...so to get through it as well as that tournament from just before, I had to use some rope-a-dope strategery (having your two back characters mostly defending, the extra character at the time and you doing the healing work).  I must've made Muhammad Ail and Rocky from the third movie quite proud.

And on top of all this, I'm now just one shy of my 100th bronze trophy!  Hey don't poo poo on that, they count too!  Both towards a platinum (I'm not at all worried about those however) and towards eh, whatever the Playstation version of your Gamerscore is (which you "level up" just like an RPG character!).

  • 3 weeks later...

Now up to 155 trophies...128/21/6 to be exact.  Someone sent me MegaMan X Legacy Collection 1+2 for my birthday so I'll get to add a few more trophies to the collection!  I mean I did play through them (especially the SNES ones) quite a few times...

I finally completed Story Mode (is that the right term) of Dragon Quest 11...the first ever 7th or 8th gen game I've ever done so...and it's only worth a bronze??  I mean it took me just under 100 hours to get that far, it along with maxing out each character (Level 99) should be worth at least a silver!  So yeah I completed the main story and got to see the ending/credits and all that, plus got a distinctive yellow star for it (just like the MegaMan Battle Network games used to do) and said "To be continued...", which means, as Bob Barker would say...

There's more Price is Right, eh I mean Dragon Quest 11 coming up!! 😄

And as Rod Roddy would say, stay tuned for more trophies and mini-quests, and the fabulous new casino prizes coming up on the third act of Dragon Quest 11...for which The Price ($25 new) was RIGHT!! 😄

PS: Regarding the date of this episode, with ten years added, may we never forget 😞
