Preliminary list added!

Since I discovered that italics Robotron variant yesterday, I added that clause to others from that release timeframe (i.e. all the shit that was in the O'Shea warehouse by the thousands) that may also have a variant like that.

The "color pic" means it has a black and white pic instead of a black and gray one.  I know there's one for Xevious, I think there's one for Galaga, and I'll search the others.

I can get some pics up if anyone's interested.

Thanks for this. I recently decided to go after a complete loose set.

It's still a pretty easy set to knock out.   There are a couple more games creeping towards $100 these days (Ninja Golf is getting up there and Tank Command has been there), but the majority of these you can get pretty easily in a few lots.

Beware of fake Tank Command and Water Ski.   Seen a few of those pop up and they look good enough if you don't realize what the cartridge itself is supposed to look like.

I got lucky and found a cheap copy of Midnight Mutants (priced before the price of it started going up and sat for awhile) and a copy of Planet Smashers. Those two are probably my two rarest 7800 games, although I haven’t seen too many other Scrapyard Dogs, Fight Nights, or F-18 Hornets. It could just be my area though.

People are counterfeiting 7800 games now? Geez, I’ll have to study those cartridges a bit more before making a purchase on either.

quoted for truth. Only 5 or so games will give you a hard time. The hardest hurdles for me were (a) seeing some games pop up at all, and (b) finding titles loose (e.g. there are 5 sealed copies of Midnight Mutants for every loose copy). Mean 18 was super-elusive, at least when I was searching.

Also, yeah, I had a hell of a time finding a legitimate Tank Command to complete my set. Fortunately someone on NA had one and the long search was finally over.

I think I actually have a Fight Night and F-18 Hornet for sale.

It's funny you found Midnight Mutants cheap; that was the last game I needed to wrap up my 7800 collection (before I started in on the variants anyway).   I definitely paid full retail since I hadn't seen it at any shows I went to.

I didn't realize it was so low. I have a lot of these, maybe I should knock the set out haha

It took me way longer than it should, but yeah it's a small set. I finished mine within the last 6 months, here's the money shot (didn't bother with PAL exclusives or the diag/monitor carts, for now):

OK, I spent an enjoyable hour going thru 3 boxes of 7800 carts.  I've coded these as country of origin [HK=Hong Kong], end label style [standard=black text on gray/silver, red text = red text on silver, or white text on red], copyright date [the later date for games with two dates], and S or I for Straight or Italicized copyright text.

Some observations:
The Taiwan games have a more silvery end label than those from other areas, but since it seemed consistent I didn't differentiate.
All the 3rd party titles seemed to have no variants, except Tomcat F-14 with the erroneous 2600 labels.
Tower Toppler was the only game I found with both red text and black text end labels
BallBlazer has both red-on-gray and white-on-red end labels

Not all games are listed.

Woohoo!   I'll have to do some comparing.  I know I've never seen nor heard of a Tower Toppler with red end-label text.

Let me know if you happen to want to sell or trade any of the ones I don't have yet.

Our posts crossed in the ether so you missed my updated list. For reasons too complex to get into, I can't do any selling at the moment.

That's quite fine; I'm very grateful to have the info on more stuff to be on the lookout for!

I also have a couple autographed 7800 carts- Xenophobe by Brian Colin (great guy, he's been at MGC the last few years) and F-18 Hornet by Garry Kitchen after hearing his government story about it.

Food Fight (bold end label; fixed the game crash issue)

Hey captmorgandrinker,

A couple questions about this game.  I was unaware the game was buggy, or that it had been fixed, but a quick Wikipedia search mentions that the game will reset itself under some circumstances.  Is that the crash issue you're referring to or is there another bug?  Also, the bold end label copies I have are the '87 copyright while the thinner text versions have an '88 copyright.  Seems the fixed version would have a later date, doesn't it?

I don't think it got fixed until the late 80s; they may have just used a different copyright on the label.   Bold end labels are definitely fixed, so that makes me wonder if the '88 copyright ones are too.

I believe it crashes on Level 107.   Would take about a half hour or so on Easy if you just run to the ice cream cone.
