  2. This week we are going to diverge a bit and rate one show that has been well loved but morphed into multiple projects over the years. Today, we rate the Mystery Science Theater 3000 and it's spin off! MST3k first launched as a cable access show but quickly gained numerous fans and was eventually picked up by Comedy Central and later The Sci-Fi channel. After being cancelled by the Sci-Fi channel, the existing writers and show runners decided to make their own online series of movie and shorts riffs called RiffTrax. RiffTrax was originally a series of podcast-like releases of voice overs to modern movies. The idea is that you download an mp3 and start it when you started watching the film. With time, the service has expanded to a more MST3k-style approach of riffing on older, poor quality films and shorts along with modern films as well. Today, RiffTrax can be viewed on streaming services such as Amazon Prime and Pluto.tv where audio has synced up with older films, and the live shows can also be streamed on these services. Later in 2017 Netflix worked with the shows original creator, Joel Hodgsen, to re-invent MST3k. In 2017 and 2018, two new seasons were released, but with an entirely new cast. The show not only continued to tradition of riffing on old b-movies but also continued the tradition of containing scripted portions of the show involving a new space captive, Jonas, who was being tortured by a new cast of from-Earth adversaries. Currently, MST3k has left Netflix and is working to start it's own streaming service called "The Gizmoplex" with the hope of releasing MST3k content as soon as it's created. For this series of polls, we will be rating the various iterations of MST3k and the RiffTrax spinoff. This Weeks TV Shows Mystery Science Theater 3000 Air Dates: November 24, 1988 – November 22, 2018 Total Seasons: 12 Total Episodes: 211 & 1 movie (weird, I know.) RiffTrax Air Dates: Original site launch in 2006. Total Seasons: N/A Total Episodes: Continually turning out new content for new and old films and shorts, plus multiple live events have been held across the US.
  3. This week should be a heavy does of 80s/90s Saturday morning cartoon nostalgia and one that most were waiting for. This Weeks TV Shows G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Air Dates: September 12, 1983 – November 20, 1986 Total Seasons: 2 Total Episodes: 95 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Air Dates: September 26, 1983 – November 21, 1985 Total Seasons: 2 Total Episodes: 130, 1 Movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Air Dates: December 14, 1987 – November 2, 1996 Total Seasons: 10 Total Episodes: 193
  4. We've debated movies, music, video games and consoles. What's missing? TV Shows of course! I'm taking it upon myself to create a series of weekly polls rating TV shows. But there are a lot of TV show genres and eras. How might we cover them all? Well I'm glad you asked! Each week I intend to select a genre, era or category of television. I'll post 3 polls for 3 different TV shows and each poll will represent a specific TV show within the weekly category. Poll options will be pretty standard and are modified variants of @Reed Rothchild's movie debates (Thanks Reed!) so you should be familiar with the format. Feel free to then discuss "obvious" TV shows I should have added instead of the three I've selected, argue about which shows are better than others or just reminisce about the shows that are gone and loved. Each week I'll summarize the results here in this thread and we can start to see which TV shows reign supreme as the best of all time.
  5. This is a topic I'll have the least knowledge about. Regardless, this seemed like an appreciated topic for many of you guys. The Master List of Debated TV Shows This Weeks TV Shows Beavis and Butthead Air Dates: March 8, 1993 –November 28, 1997, October 27 – December 29, 2011, Q3 2011 Total Seasons: 8 Total Episodes: 222 + 1 Movie BoJack Horseman Air Dates: August 22, 2014 – January 31, 2020 Total Seasons: 6 Total Episodes: 77 South Park Air Dates: August 13, 1997 – present Total Seasons: 23 Total Episodes: 309 + 1 movie
  6. The 60's. A lot of classics came from that era. If you weren't someone to watch old TV in syndication or if you weren't a fan of Nick at Nite, I'm sure many of you guys might have skipped these. I'm slightly apologetic if that's the case, but you'll see going forward that we will take some weeks to work through categories that defined certain decades. I think these three shows are a good cross-section of the television that was enjoyed during that time. The Master List of Debated TV Shows This Weeks TV Shows Get Smart Air Dates: September 18, 1965 – May 15, 1970 Total Seasons: 5 Total Episodes: 138 episodes & 2 movies Gilligan's Island Air Dates: September 26, 1964 – April 17, 1967 Total Seasons: 3 Total Episodes: 99 & 1 reunion movie The Dick van Dyke Show Air Dates: October 3, 1961 – June 1, 1966 Total Seasons: 5 Total Episodes: 158 episodes & 1 reunion movie
  7. Our first properly themed week is Space Sci-Fi. There are a TON of space sci-fi shows out there so it was tough to choose. There are likely some obvious choices, however I have left out some that might be part of an obvious series and if enough people suggest it, I might make a "Classic Sci-Fi" bracket with some of the more historically important shows on a future week. Going forward, I won't make much commentary on my list choosing but I did want to establish that on some weeks, some obvious TV shows may be left out for future future. The Master List of Debated TV Shows This Weeks TV Shows Battle Star Galactica Air Dates: December 8, 2003 - March 20, 2009 Total Seasons: 4 Total Episodes: 76 + 2 Movies Firefly Air Dates: September 20 – December 20, 2002 Total Seasons: 1 Total Episodes: 14 + 1 Movie Stargate: SG-1 Air Dates: July 27, 1997 – March 13, 2007 Total Seasons: 10 Total Episodes: 214 + 2 Movies
