  1. Obviously, not vintage. But definitely a game I wanted to add to the collection. Came in beautiful shape. It's also freaking massive lol.
  2. I'm curious where the hobby will be in 10-20 years. Personally, I think the whole concept of "owning" a game will be phased out and it will become some combination of digital only, limited-time ownership, and microtransactions. Something similar to a streaming service with premium options / time-limited passes. It really just makes sense for the companies as it's cheaper than physical and the profit for smaller purchases and subscription type services surely outweigh one-and-done purchases. Plus, they get to circumvent retail stores / shipping / release issues. Not to mention that they don't profit at all from second-hand sales from physical copies. I'm definitely in the stubborn category though as I don't enjoy digital only games at all. I was gifted a couple of digital switch games and it just feels empty. I mean, they are on the system and I could play them at any time I guess, but I never even think about them and don't consider them games I own at all. I just see them sometimes when I'm scrolling on the screen and think, oh yeah, they exist...
  3. That was the first list I used for a long time as well. New collectors really don't understand how wild west game collecting was in the beginning. I remember searching tirelessly for the unknown/prototype games on his list just hoping one would surface. Personally, I don't remember NA being toxic at all. Though I did take a step back shortly before everything went down. I do remember the whole Joel thing being way too weird/integrated for my liking though
  4. I actually just came across this thread with the same reason. Shredder's Revenge was/is the first game I've bought directly from LRG. I apparently made the mistake of buying the regular release in the same purchase as the Classic and Radical Editions which means nothing will ship until everything is ready to go. I kind of wish I came across this thread earlier - I wasn't aware how delayed their products are. Honestly, It kind of sucks buying the whole freaking set on the first day it was available online and still not being able to play the game with everyone else that is already playing it from the digital release.
  5. I can absolutely vouch for Jason. I've spoken with him many times back when he lived in St. Louis. He is very knowledgeable - especially with the older systems (Atari and NES specifically). Can't say I like the cases as others have mentioned, but I'm all for additional competition in grading. And honestly, they still look better than WATA - which look like some child's sketch of futuristic trash. I'm sitting on a decent number of games I want to get slabbed and might go through them after I see some of the early results.
  6. Holy crap I completely forgot about this. I remember having everything in that game. Going town to town dropping holy water on every freaking block trying to figure out where the crap I was supposed to go to next. This was pre-internet help days and I spent so many hours grinding everything trying to find a false wall or hidden door or anything. Years later I finally came across that NP issue and went back to finally beat it. I was so mad at that game for so long lol. I still love the game, but that cliff... man... that was awful. In response to the original question, I honestly don't know. A few that stick out: -I remember a rumor back around release that if you beat Megaman 2 without dying 3 times it would unlock protoman as a playable character. I finally did it as a kid and was very disappointed that the rumor was false -Battlekid was a grind and was probably the last time I pushed myself to beat a difficult game -The original TMNT took me about 3 decades to finally beat and was quite satisfying
  7. Minor goal accomplished today - Finished off the Jampack collection for the PS2. Was more of a passive collection for me and a very small/cheap subset to get in general. For those interested, the Jampack games were demos that were released to show off upcoming games on the PS2. The MSRP was cheap ($5-$10) and was a great way to screen games you wanted before dropping big money on a new release. An interesting detail - you'll notice that a lot of the titles have 2 available copies. This is because, starting with Winter 2002, they would release two versions of each demo. One would be the mature version and one would be the cleaner version that would only include Teen rated games or below. These would have different cases, different SCUS codes, different games available on the disc, often different prices, and different manuals. I guess it depends on where you draw the line, but I would consider these two different demos completely rather than a variant of the same title.
  8. I have absolutely nothing that I would consider to be a grail anymore. But I have some odds and ends that I am happy to have in my collection: PS2 Nickelodeon edition. I guess I would say this is the highlight of my current collection. This one took me a long time to find in good condition. Was very happy it ended up being complete (and I still have no place to display it).
  9. Microwave ovens. You know how the concept of using microwaves for cooking came from a guy walking through a radar room and the chocolate bar in his pocket melting? That freaking terrifies me. Always has. Getting melted/burned from an invisible source like radiation and having them in virtually every household/business for any idiot to operate? Oof. My phobia exponentially increased when I was in middle school and the radio in my kitchen started picked up the frequency of the microwave when it was on. My brain pieced together that microwaves are dangerous and that some radiation does escape the oven regardless of the precautions in place. It's been game over since then lol.
  10. I just don't get them at all. They don't really display well and they all look minimally distorted into the funko mold. It's hard to even tell which ones they are without a label or theme with them. I have friends that collect/display/brag about them, but I just feel so far removed from caring at all.
  11. Dude, Comix Zone is one of my favorite games of all time. I recently sent a video to my brother of the load-up screen "Sega" and he instantly named it. I remember playing it at my friends house when I was a kid and HAD TO HAVE IT after experiencing it. There's so much about this game that is exceptional. The story book take. The one death and you're done aspect. The two different endings (if you beat it in time or not). The relatively short game overall. The hidden areas / items / tricks. The ability to pick your own path. The graphics and sound. Easily one of the best games on the Genesis and I still go back to it from time to time. It's a great game to just throw in and play for 30 minutes. 10/10
  12. Hey guys. I've been getting the reoccurring itch to play some hockey video games lately. I get this every few years and always end up going back and playing something from the 90s or early 00s because it's honestly more fun to play with the players I grew up with than the newer players. Hoping to break this cycle and play something newer. Have been going through youtube reviews trying to find a game with specific qualities, but thought it might be quicker/easier to just ask here for at least a start. Here's what I'm looking for: -Something newer, but not current gen. PS3 or 360 would be ideal, but PS4 or Switch would also be fine. -Single player only. Don't really want to sink time into online play at all -Want the ability to play with current and past stars together. Whether it's unlocking legends or something available from the start, I want the ability to play with past stars and current stars together. You know, build your all-time dream team that could never realistically happen. -Decent gameplay. I know the games are almost always copy/paste each year, but some sort of decent gameplay. Thoughts? I feel like something like this has to exist by now, but I'm struggling to find it. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks
  13. I'm too old for this crap lol. Is this the correct site now?
  14. Just wanted to post to say that I've used this service before and it was an excellent experience. I'm still making a list for another shipment when I get enough together. Highly recommend Pats!
  15. Been looking to pick up one of these LE systems for years. Finally nabbed one in great shape and complete :)
  16. This is quite ambitious lol. I don't have the time, but would love to see what people beat.
  17. These were the two I was going to list as well. It's been so long that I honestly can't remember much of either - just that I enjoyed them and completed both of them. Probably need to give them another spin soon.
  18. Your experience reflects many of ours here Welcome!
  19. Sorry if this has been discussed before, but just wanted to get some opinions from the collectors here. Is there a general consensus on which grading service is preferred? Is it different based on if you're collector or a seller? My probably-out-of-date understanding was that VGA was more "official" and had a better track record. However, it seems like there is a lot more hype around WATA games from what I've seen. Just curious what are actually the current opinions. Thanks.
  20. Wow, glad I read through some of this thread. I was thinking about submitting a handful of games to VGA, but it looks like the wait is indefinite currently.
  21. I know it gets noted sometimes on the information label, but not sure if it affects the grading. I have a game in this state as well and am curious if anyone has the actual answer. If I had to guess, I would say that it wouldn't affect the grading because there is no way to assess the damage of the disk (if any) if it is loose. Also, what if the game is already graded and the disk becomes loose afterwards? Does it need to be noted? Or regraded? Even though nothing directly observable has changed? I think grading focuses more on legitimacy of the factory seal and observable condition. Who knows though - I could be way off
  22. I use them for my sealed games and pricier ones. I agree that they are definitely not needed for these types of cases, but I feel more comfortable handling them when they are in a box protector. On the other side of the coin, it sure seems like people are more drawn to the games in protectors when when are on a shelf. Almost like they feel the need to handle it.
  23. Obviously, with the listed criteria, SMB3 just blows everything else out of the water. It's not even a contest. I would be interested in a top 10 list or something though. So many quality titles / franchises.
  24. I don't know if it's a game theory, but Ice Hockey on the NES was way ahead of its time. In the game, if the game is tied after three periods, there is a 2 min 3v3 (1 less player per side). If the game is still tied after this, there is a shootout that goes until there is a winner. When the game was created (1988), NHL games continued playing 5v5 hockey for 20 minute periods until someone scored. Shootouts weren't implemented until 2005 and didn't use less players in overtime until 2015. The IIHF didn't start using the shootout until 1992 and just had ties prior to this. Either way, playing the game is more similar to todays hockey than when it was created 30 years ago.
