  1. I miss videos being a more serious part of the experience. I loved me some pre TRL era MTV. They seem to be more of an afterthought nowadays when they bother to produce them. I always found them to be a good promotional tool and also lend an extra depth to the theme of the album. Like you'd buy a record or CD and it would have a certain motif to the artwork on the cover and in the liner. I'd love reading the liner notes and looking over all the art when I would listen to the album. Then some of the videos from songs on the album would take that and bring it to life in a way. I miss that.
  2. Jeez, did I strike a nerve insulting your precious game? So the only reason people may not like something is due to not being any good at it? As if it's so objectively amazing that nobody could possibly dislike it without there being something suspect about that individual? Were you that person who thought anyone not against gay marriage must have been gay themselves too? Take it down a notch pal. It's an incredibly mild opinion about a game clearly directed at children. If you must know, I don't like that mechanic because I am not much of a fan of competitive world building as a gameplay mechanic in general. You know what is possibly my least favorite genre going back to mid 90's PC games? Real Time Strategy! So perhaps it makes sense that someone who doesn't like a genre that is centered around world and structure building in the face of opposing forces may not like that mechanic being mixed in as a large part of a game in different genre that he's already lukewarm on at best. The cash grab comment was due to the fact that it initially relied on loot boxes before switching to the vbucks model after the practice was criticized. But even in the vbucks model, they still pull artificial scarcity by randomly rotating skins in an out of availability to try and get players (mainly kids) to impulse buy $20 skins because they may no longer be available soon. It's designed to play on the same psychologically addictive impulse that gets gamblers coming back to the casino time and time again. But designed to do so while appealing to children, which IMO is a bit sleazy on the publisher's part. And then on top of it, they'll turn around and devalue this super rare gotta have limited edition skin by randomly throwing it back up again. So yes, there are some very cash grab type elements to the game. It's not really a controversial opinion or some hot take and it's not as though I'm suggesting the game should exist, be banned, or censored in any way. The point of the thread was to ask why you like or dislike this game. I kept it very short in my initial comment and stated why I personally disliked the game. I'm not rallying against its existence but merely choosing not to participate. I downloaded it, played it for a few weeks and didn't like it. Tried it some more at some friends' houses who were more into the game, and still didn't like it. I don't like it so I don't participate. I also don't waste my time worrying about whether or not other people do because, *GASP*, people sometimes enjoy things that I may not and vice versa. Shocking, I know.
  3. I more recognized who made certain games, but didn't seek out specific publishers. I just based my choices on the games themselves regardless of who made them. To slightly waffle on that, when it came time to buy a new console, I did look to see who would be releasing games for it so that I would be able to get the next entries in series that I enjoyed. But other than that, it was never like "Let's see what Sunsoft has out this month."
  4. I don't mind multiplayer online shooters, but I LOATHE the structure building element. That and it being such a blatant cash grab just really make me dislike this game.
  5. Hey, I (who've also been MIA) hit him up in late April to see how he was doing and if he ever did more work on his tutorials as I loved his first draft. He got back to me and said he hadn't as it's just been difficult with the whole COVID thing and having a baby in the house. So I'm pretty sure he's just being a dad to his baby and short on time and energy.
  6. They seem like a bunch of guys who alternated between listening to Radiohead and INXS.
  7. Does the binary not work for you? If it doesn't, I'll do my best to walk you through it as it was a bit of a bitch to get going.
  8. I can totally see that. We were selling guitars as a mom and pop competing against the big boxes (GC and Sam Ash) so while we definitely needed to sell, it was a little less crazy and a bit tongue in cheek. My boss, who was also my guitar teacher years prior, wasn't a bad dude and definitely had that knack for sales that I did not (I got by purely on technical knowledge.) Just a guy who had invested in his own business starting a lesson studio that ended up ballooning into a full fledged store with a killer amp selection and then shrinking back down to a lesson studio as a GC moved into town and people started using the place to window shop for Amazon and Musician's Friend. I will say, although I really don't like sales as it just doesn't jive with my personality, I'm really thankful to have worked that job. Being forced to exit my comfort zone and strike up and carry on conversations with random people really ended up helping my personal confidence and interpersonal skills later on in life. While I'll never be captain extrovert, it's now not so daunting to have to talk to people who aren't friends or family. It also really just kills that crippling fear of rejection as you realize that some people are just gonna inevitably say no and that isn't the worst thing in the world. I really recommend that everyone work a sales job at least once in their lives, just to develop some people and conversational skills.
  9. I'd heard rumors (probably bullshit) of it possibly being an announcement of Nintendo acquiring SEGA.
  10. World was amazing. Truly an excellent game chock full of amazing features. Secrets within secrets. The first time I got to, the actual Special World (with the crazy levels like tubular and whatnot) I was blown away. Then beating it and having the main game change was another level of awesome (yes I know SMB 1 replaces many turtles with beetles upon completion). Still, despite all this, I feel like SMB 3 just has something that World didn't capture despite adding so much extra. The different worlds that just had so much style and personality compared to SMW. The mini games, the different suits, some of which we've never seen again, the different world map obstacles, the item system. The sheer amount of 1 off gameplay mechanics as well as all the great secrets just make me have to give it to SMB 3. Really 2 masterpieces of video game history that make it so hard to choose. It's like having to choose between a Ferrari and a Lamborghini. Both are just ridiculous.
  11. I've literally only seen that 1 scene shown above. My boss used it as a training video (was somewhat kidding) at a store I once worked at.
  12. Not sure if this is allowed, and if it's not I'll take this post right down. The toolset for developing NES games tends to be a bit Windows-centric. Yes, you can use WINE, but native options tend to be in short supply or need to be compiled from their source code. The latter option is sometimes way easier said than done. Due to this, I wanted to make it a little easier for any fellow Mac based devs and provide binaries of a few common tools. 1. Nes Screen Tool. A cross platform fork named NESTool was developed but required building from source. This one was a bit of a pain to build NESTool Repo nestool.app.zip 2. ASM6 version 1.6. Common assembler that also needs to be built from source to run natively on a MAC. asm6 Repo. Pretty sure this is the fork I built from. asm6
  13. Highly influential but objectively weak compared to many of their contemporaries. Lucky as all hell to have had Ice Cube writing rhymes and Dre on beats or they most likely never would have made it. Once the "badass factor" wears off, you are left with a group with decent beats (Dre didn't really hit his stride until just after this period, despite having a few great ones during) and 1, maybe 2 good emcees. If you look at the hip hop of the time period, you can also see that the west coast artists kept a more dated style up until G-Funk became a thing while more east coast artists were putting out timeless material that really progressed the genre. TLDR; Style over substance with some decent highlights. 5/10.
  14. Congratulations on seeing the ending. That's the best you're gonna get out of me for your cheating ways And now the obligatory "get good!"
  15. Paid like $1.85 this morning in South Jersey
  16. Don't underestimate the power of religious influence and group think when people feel they are in a survival/death scenario. Man was it satisfying when I thought the ending was a perfect example of a pyrrhic victory.
  17. In 3rd grade (94-95) they were already $100 bucks. I saved up that amount but bought a skateboard instead. While I don't at all regret that purchase, I do wish I had bought one at the time as the prices are now insane.
  18. That is absolutely incredible. I can't believe that is like 30 min from me. Definitely going to see it when shit goes back to normal.
  19. Disc golf ain't a bad time. I just found out about something called "Soccer Golf" where you kick a soccer ball up the course and the holes are sized to fit. You still start off from a starting tee and it's all still shots as in regular golf. I feel like that's gonna end up being the non mini golf I like best.
  20. If the preview of the 1st issue a few months back was anything to go by, however long it takes is definitely worth it. The work is fantastic.
  21. I used to get NES games at the Roosevelt Field Flea Market on Long Island back in the early 90s for dirt cheap when my mom would drag us there. Looking back at what they were charging for new games on what was a current console at the time, these definitely "fell off a truck" and into my collection.
  22. Classic lines like "I BEEN DRINKIN GREEN TEA ALL GOD DAMN DAY!!" from Danny McBride along with Will Arnett's perfect delivery of "Hey maybe I'll get a box of dong bags so we can knock boots later, whaddya think?" bring this rather unremarkable film up to a solid 6.
