  1. I don't post often, but felt maybe update worthy. I had a run of odd repetitive luck in the last 6mo about here with Sega Genesis stuff, and I've had a few odd finds with Famicom too, so been largely only doing that with a few pokes at something Switch between. It has been awhile but I got to a store at the right time yesterday and got a nice stack of 5 NES games, one of them, complete... StarTropics right there even had the letter too. I've never played that game otuside of a few minutes in chapter1 and it's a little stiff but all in all not bad, I can see the appeal but at the time it was close to SNES and kids save. Also snapped up Batman Returns, Kickle Cubicle, Monster Party and Laser Invasion. Never had either of those 2 konami games before and they're quite good too. Also been fiddling a little with gameboy too, found namco classic (dmg-jp) locally along with prince of persia and another SP (onyx) worth paying for so I snapped those up too and they're in use. I don't really do images much anymore or report stuff, rather just mess with the stuff when I'm in the mood you know? Oddly most my time has been with the Genesis, all sorts of stuff found strangely locally, bangers too, not common fluff notably under ePay rates which is a win in my book since I just buy to play at this rate.
  2. I can think of the 8bit GB/GBC stuff that would be subjectively (or objectively) better on there over the console side. Advance would be a bit easy though. Donkey Kong vs DK94 - the GB game had all of the stages, then 90% more game that played largely the same with the enhancements. Parodius and Pop'n Twinbee - The NES parodius is a less nice a/v side comparatively, and the GB version of the SFC shooter is just stunning, carries its weight so well you're good off on either. Metroid and Kid Icarus -- GB games took lessons from both and made them far more approachable and just fun. Metroid didn't have a map, but more detail and gear to get around better. KI just had more balance, less stiff difficulty, and the eggplants wore off not an infuriating dungeon spiral to get to the nurse. Bubble Bobble NES 1/2 vs GB Part1&2 - I can't really after so long detail it well, but the handheld games trumped the quality, game play and mechanics of the console side. Prince of Persia NES vs GB/GBC - I just acquired this one again days ago (GBC) and it's just the GB game with colorization (lazy but effective) Kirby's Dream Land 2 vs Adventure -- Similar enough than not, adore the NES game but the GB one I still think did it a bit better. Race Drivin' GB game laughably better (not much) frame rate than the console release so it's actually oddly playable. Ninja Gaiden Shadow may be a bit easier, but it's as fun if not more (since it's not frustrating due to rental shenanigans) than the NES ones. Tetris Gameboy -- enough said The Getaway High Speed 2 vs HIGH SPEED (1 on NES) -- THe NES game and GB both have no customization, but the NES one has lame monsters added in and doesn't behave as well. The GB game while the sequel the tables were largely the same and the ball works better, the mechanics are ALL intact, and no dumb monsters -- even the DMD games are there. Genjin Collection (bonk) Adventure 1 & 2 are on GB, 1 on NES...the GB one feels more right, looks colorlessly more right, it's just a better version 1942 on NES beep beep bleh-- GBC one is more an arcade port and awesome. Ghosts n Goblins though is a NES port but plays a little better yet and had an arrange mode with also an overly picky(to the life) password Dragon Warriors 1-3 -- GBC wins, they're refined because they're the SFC games and spank the originals Mario Golf vs NES Open Tournament -- GBC had more modes, better a/v, and the RPG mechanic which is amazing Shadowgate on NES is solid but the GBC one is a little nicer, interface and visuals are a little better detailed, not a stand out but lightly nicer. More a subjective nod but Castlevania, Contra, Gradius, Quarth on the GB (or gbc konami collection 1-4) largely were superior to their by date counterparts on NES. Castlevania II GB beats the NES ones on quality, either Gradius to G1 NES does as well, contra/operation C about the same they're not lessers at least.
  3. I have my reasons but don't log in much these days reading or otherwise. I'd defer to fcgamer because I agree. The prices are clown level, and if you want real it's clown price unless he comes across some local vendor as they tend not to be scummy there unlike in the US with such things. I've mostly picked up boots from his looks, but on rare occasion a legit game and it was last a MD title price wise at 10% of the ebay price. Personally I'd just take the bootleg modern or vintage it'll work the same.
  4. I bit, click bait 100% misleading title, but the content is on point. The game really is fantastic, the real DOOM 3 before we had ehh Doom 3. Was happy when this thing got re-released just in the last few years. I do wish they hadn't set the contrast so low it's a real pain to see much in the game without realy cranking things up.
  5. FF1, FF2, DQ3, FF4, FF5, FF6, DQ7, DQ8, FF9, FF10(by default, other is a MMO), and DQ11 I'm sure I was against the grain on some of those, but dragon quest time to get great and FF for the time started out nicer even the wonky way FF2 went as it was. DQ3 was magic as is 4 but sorry not as epic as FF4 by any means, as can be said for the SFC era of DQ, but then it really took its stride in the 7 and since era. FF went into the weeds of largely garbage fires and DQ stayed true.
  6. Go back about 3-4 years ago I had a big shelf loaded with DOS/Win (up to about 2000 era) big box games. They either are hot or cold, and if they are hot they get stupid, very stupid to levels of magnitude if the franchise is big, if it has crazy stuff in the box, or if it just never got another release ever over licensing bs or whatever. I kept a few things of what was there, at times felt maybe I sliced one or two too many like the old Trek click games(kept the amazing novella guides though.) One that was a biggie to me was SImpsons Arcade it's costly, not 1000s but still sucks. Another huge one I kept all along since purchase is my talkie CD release of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and it's in great shape too, kind of wondering if it'll go nuts given the source. Wing Commander Deluxe is another gem of an option has all the big huge blueprints of all the ships in there, the Claw Marks full on magazine/game guide thing, and more. I'm sure someone will snark, got a complete boxed up Knights of Xentar, best JRPG of the dos era we got, even if it's eechi even without the 17+ patch, and a sealed up Power Dolls (Same company, no eechi.) There's a few others, some didn't have boxes.
  7. I just don't want to upload images here after some underhanded drama some months ago, its why I removed the stuff and went to text, but here I put it on my hosting some quickie images I showed a local friend at the time. http://tanooki.byethost8.com/trade/toys1.jpg http://tanooki.byethost8.com/trade/toys2.jpg http://tanooki.byethost8.com/trade/toys3.jpg If you're curious what the gashapon toys are in #3, it's a complete set. Forgot to mention dropped $10 on these, haven't assembled them yet. Seems they have notably more value than what I got into them at least, and there's a nice chibi naruto button pin as well. https://www.ebay.com/itm/394341238037
  8. Beautiful, even if the game is trash that Game Boy Indy I'd put into a frame because of that scene.
  9. From my understanding seeing many complaints online (non-video) the easiest application would be the shared goomba biting your ass to death story I had and others in this thread with the TV vs the Wii release of the game (all-stars in my case special pack.) You'll probably end up gunned down a second before you actually SEE the bullet hit you thinking you dodged it. I remember all the commentary how bad it was so I never got it, have the other 2 Cotton's though which is a shame as I like the franchise, even have my little nenroid on the desk of the witch here from the huge Cotton Fantasy set.
  10. My half price books up the street had some adult drop their 90s gaming/cartoon toy collection there and it all wen out for $4 a piece. I walked away with some fine stuff if any of your memories are jogged by it. Capcom and Marvel did some co-packs of stuff, grabbed a Chun Li, Mega Man w/War Machine from that, one of those SMB3 happy meal Racoon Mario springs, the Ocarina of time 6" or so Link w/sword(shield lost) and Ganon, and one of those bd&a plushie beanie wing cap marios with the tag on it. Then went back today when I realized the mistake and grabbed that war machine and also from the megaman/bandai line the Rush dog with jetpack. The biggest wins are the plush, 2 zelda pieces, and rush which surprised me. They're all on display, again, NFS territory. If were flipping again there were a ton of those old fox era cartoon xmen toys and vehicles in that same pile with other quality stuff including a few vintage tmnt things, whenever one of the usual local scalpers find it they'll grab the tray if they know what's good for them, if not both of the trays and some contents from the usual wall hangers too.
  11. I only ever saw the things sitting (the box at least) on the floor at like Software Etc and other game dedicated stores. They rarely moved, got dusty, then they made room for affordable stuff that actually moved. A small space was kept as a select few games came in but even they knew wasting a lot of space on a AES cart was madness vs a SNES game given the good size difference in boxes and largely so the price. NeoGeo I have had a care about since 1990 when it appeared as it happened to show up at the pizza place we always ate at, and another local burger joint too. That's largely why I care more for the non-fighting stuff. Between them you had Baseball Stars, NAM, Magician Lord, Bust a Move, Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury, League Bowling, Cyber Lip, Art of Fighting, World Heroes, Eightman, and so on. Always loved throwing a few dollars at the thing, also did at the one at my college rec room which had Bam, Samurai Shodown 3 and various other titles along with Metal Slug. Even since the 90s I wished I could afford the home unit, then the arcade one on the front and well into the back end of that thing vanishing. It's why when I had an opportunity in the mid 2010s I bought one. And it came with metal slug 1 and 2.
  12. All these big posts and big images, and well I'm going to keep it simple. I've found some stuff recently (like a couple of GB games for $4 ea with Wave Race and F1-Race both non-PC in cases, GameGear adapter for my MegaSg, etc), even got some stuff even in the mail from fcgamer a split order with half about so far. But all that said, the most important find for me even over that, as it was local, and was a great many years hoping to see it (and never owning it in the past times I've had the hardware either) made it amazing to get and it's just one game alone. Sega Genesis - Michael Jackson's Moonwalker I always wanted that one, never got it, then wrote it off when he died as well, the vultures come out of the woodwork. It was found at a local shop here, they wanted $60 but accepted a $50 offer and it's in amazing shape with everything clean, no wear or funk to the sticker. Such a unique and screwy game, but quite a lot of fun.
  13. Maybe the difference is those few pages and one vs two folded up posters. That could do it. I'm overly basic on this, not looking up sizes, but if the box is like 1 1/4" thick, and the game was about 1" within the sleeve, you just have a 1/4" to play with not bulging the box sides so whatever fits fits, and if a sleeve gets removed to add another 1/8" they'd cut it.
  14. If not for the Virtual Boy, and perhaps other smaller (sub-300~) game libraries which are largely easily accessible and mostly not price toxic yeah I'd say some people would go for it as it's not too bad, and could be far more costly over time compared to a drinking, smoking, or drug habit...perhaps others less seedy like old car restoration and so on. I wouldn't touch it anymore, but I started that journey before the scalpers squatters and resellers made it into the decade and some ongoing circus. I had attempted it last as this mess started, saw writing on the wall and stopped it cold. It just doesn't make sense for price, and given a library size the epic costs involved. Throw in these wonky yet licensed small run outfits doing little pushes that people get just to scalp for stupid prices and I pity anyone going anywhere near that hot mess, say like, the Switch being a prime example of that.
  15. Take what Contra did right early on, apply that SNK magic, and there you go -- Metal Slug. A franchise that has been pretty consistently solid over the years (at least) on their arcade hardware. Even some of those home editions on handheld have been fantastic too. A really nice balance of high animated detail, cute but yet serious visuals, the weird moments mixed with the grittiness of what's going on. Great spread of weapons and in time tanks from the Metal Slug to the oddball camel with mounted cannon. One of the best run n gun games ever made, tops Contra easily in many aspects, not just a spiritual successor to that franchise but an improvement.
  16. Oh yeah the money is a factor, anyone who says otherwise is either pretty wealthy, in denial, or lying to look more above it all. And on that note, I did pull the trigger. I spent hours about a week ago and I photographed my console and it's hdmi cable/module hookup, the gb player with disc/sleeve/case, the wavebirds, the accessories and added controller to go with the console, and all the games, import games, and freeloader. I gave friends until the 24th to pick anything they wanted at a generous discount, then the rest went up on ebay on the 26th of what I put up. It was a bit much so I held back about a third of the games. They're moving, and I'm pleased some have sold, a number have bids, and my guess given how I did it there will be some serious last minute sniping clicks. I put it where the BIN was the average sales price and the start being 30% less made them very attractive. Most of my stuff I'm the original owner of so it's spotless or close which helps. When all is said and done my resources will be back to full and perhaps a bit higher too really from being tapped out largely from finally getting my new computer which delivers tomorrow.
  17. Wasn't Paper Mario GC coming in a few months for the Switch? Was a date exactly ever set? Currently I've pulled it all and it's largely up on ebay and selling, my entire gamecube collection, just over it. So stuff that overlaps I do care about still I'd dig up.
  18. The only thing I'm surprised with on that list is how Contra didn't have a better than a 2 point rating on there, and that kusoge mess Ikki even made the list. Maybe it was a local flash mobbish style campaign to promote a turd for laughs. ...gee I wonder, Dragon Quest might just make that list for the next one right? It's not like the game was so toxic to schools and jobs they had to after a point get the company to do weekend releases of that to keep up attendance.
  19. A positive thing of sorts. A week ago I saw something I forgot about existed, a Game Gear adapter for the Mega Sg. I looked to their site and saw it was sadly bundled with two things I'd never use, so at $50 and another 20-30 range on shipping I went to ebay. Seems some people TOO just one a specific adapter, so I picked up a new one of the things on there for $25 and it's way way into the territory of money well spent. Playing those GG games up on the TV in HDMI really makes them pop. Visuals are clean, the audio is very nice, and it's just a nice thing doing those using an official sega controller as well. I took a little time with Sailor Moon, the first Sonic game, and a couple others. I feel more motivated to use the stuff again as the old GG is nice, works 100% right still amazingly, but is a bit of a pain to setup since I don't use batteries on it. So, I moved my tray of GG games legit, imports, and vintage multis to my console cabinet for easy access. I really need to get Aerial Assault still ...and maybe see what a boot of GG Aleste 3 costs.
  20. I don't come across daily here as I did awhile back because reasons, but yeah I'm in. Maybe I can find a clear flat something to put it into and hang it like my SNES hanging store display sign, or just find a nice print under it and throw it into a frame like that large menko card. Feel free to PM me about it, it'll remind me.
  21. Maybe it's not just height be thickness, the combination of the two are enough to cause the issue because the sleeve is a static size leaving only so little room for bulk aside it before bulging the box. So you have a RPG with a 50+ page manual/guide and a couple of 12 way folded over or so maps it just is too much.
  22. I would fall into the camp of an original owner, but the box is gone, and I don't remember it having a sleeve either because the two maps and 80 page manual/guide along with the various inserts stuffed the box tight. NES Open Tournament Golf also had a tall thicker manual and inserts, don't recall that one having a sleeve did it? I was under the impression games with a roughly box sized dimension manual had a little thinner block inside and no sleeve. Here's a throwback from ratty NA, the images still work on that tools backup of the site, if this isn't stage the guy is physically cutting open the seal on the box and unloading the contents so you can see them all laid out. https://archive.nes.science/nintendoage-forums/nintendoage.com/forum/messageviewfa6d.html?StartRow=151&catid=5&threadid=773 The wizard replied to it someone did it a few years earlier on NES World and same result with no sleeve, and the other contents including the thinner blue foam block so the tall paper fits right.
  23. From my understanding what has been designed is designed and done, and they're sitting and spinning on it because of no motivation to kill a cash cow that just won't drop off in hardware sales. There has been speculation and stuff, especially since the X1 is a dead chip no longer made other than basically for them. They'll want a system that doesn't alienate people (one of their lessons learned) that can run the old games, but can do far better on the new. Odds are showing it's a variant of the T234 chip, Odin it goes by, but a variant custom for Nintendo. This should allow them to continue to use their current game on a card tech yet have the benefit of far superior hardware that works well with current battery and screen tech as Switch did years ago. Keep in mind they had a 64GB switch card designed day one but with $50-60 on games, the tech was not there for a fair price not wanting to ding people with $70-80? games so they shelved it for depreciation of price over time. 32GB has been used all along for a minimal but improving profit, so 64 must have really sucked, but now? It would make sense if 64GB card were affordable, and that would put them on par to store a modern console more or less as Ultra Blu Ray is at 50GB(single) and 66GB (double) density format. They know they can't win in a hardware race. They know trying to sell a console is suicide as well. It'll end up being another handheld you can dock for higher resolution play on a TV again because it prints money for them, clearly. If they can suck in the old consumers with a samey ($350~) priced system as the OLED that allows all the games from the last nearly 7 years to work as well they'll be sitting in a very comfy spot. Imagine something like we have now, same price as OLED, that still functions the same way. The unit now can as the OLED shows with the dock, can run in 4K mode, can use the old and new game media sharing the same cards. Potentially an easy win if they don't fall into the arrogance traps they did in the past and don't go for the stupid more is better, sometimes just less more is enough to win.
  24. Strange how blue was perceived, for me I was more literal on the color and for me that's the Taito cart of Rainbow Islands I have, better than the release that left Japan too. Next week yeah maybe Contra, maybe not, could be other popular Konami titles too like Salamander.
  25. I learned his lesson back in the NA era. I had a TV fail, got another in the main room (we still have it, kids watching Pokemon right now) and that Samsung was a turd for lag. I had no clue, thought that Nintendo couldn't code for crap as Mario Allstars Wii was so lagged a goomba got me because you physically could see him go after I pressed, so I sold it in disgust. A year later someone joked, I felt I should not back out of a returned joke to that and ended up with another copy, on another TV. This TV I heard something about processing modes, so I used displaylag dot com and found one in the mid 20s for ms of lag, suddenly Mario worked 100% right. Lesson learned. My TV I had earlier ago this year failed, this time I decided to get a more PC style screen, got a TCL Roku TV, the rating on it is sub 5ms, basically it's a non-touch Android Tablet pretending to be a TV as it has no tuner. That thing is fast, I've hit no perception issues at all. I can go between using NES/FC games on my PVM color monitor CRT or that screen and get the same results. So I doubt the AVS is at fault, the TV likely is. It's not some emulator causing a layer of lag.
