  1. I completely forgot to mention this last night.

It's extremely funny to me how these older Guitar Hero games that were released before DLC was a thing, have many hidden bonus songs that can be purchased with IN GAME money that you earn through the career mode.  You get to buy bonus songs without spending any actual money.

    Oh, how times have changed.

What are your thoughts on it? I’ve been picking up Japanese 360 games for super cheap and they got a couple of the GH games in Japan. I only played 1 and 2 so was interested to maybe check this one out too.

I was a little disappointed in GH Aerosmith.  Obviously, it's just more Guitar Hero, and it's basically the same game assets as GH3.  But when I play these games, the only thing I really care about is the song list.  I felt GH Aerosmith was lacking in the song titles.  There were definitely some great songs, but I felt more than half of the song list was stuff I wasn't interested in.  Of course everyone's music preferences are a little different, so you can always look up the song lists and see if it's music you would be interested in.

If memory serves, this is the first band focused Guitar Hero game, and I believe it's the only band focused game that isn't compatible with any instruments outside of the guitar.  I'm fairly certain all of the other band focused releases came after GH copied Rock Band in adding the other instruments.

I enjoyed GH 1 and 2 better than GH Aerosmoth, and so far GH3 seems to be better as well.

  3. Guitar Hero Aerosmith is complete.  This was my first time ever playing this game, and therefore, first time beating it.  This is also the first new game I've beaten for this thread.

I started GH3 tonight and I'm about 1/4 of the way in.  I've also ordered GH Rock the 80s from @Hammerfestus, so when that one arrives, I will play through that one as well.

  4. The 3D effect was always interesting, and I would always try it out with each game I played to see how it looked, but I could never play any game very long with the 3D effect turned on, even with it turned down to the lowest setting.  I would always eventually turn it off completely.  Thankfully, Nintendo never required that element in the gameplay.  I could live without that feature in any type of hardware replacement in the future.

I beat Flip Out.  What a dull puzzle game.  It's just matching colored tiles to panels of the same color while aliens occasionally shuffle or block the tiles.  It seemed easy enough so I thought I'd breeze through it and I did up until the final few levels.  Not that they we hard, just annoying.  The aliens would shuffle the panels more frequently, which just makes you have to redo what you already did.  Didn't make it harder, just made it take longer.

I enjoy Flip Out and probably play it at least once a year.  I've never played it through to completion because it's the type of game I enjoy playing 20 minutes and stopping.  Obviously the game is not very pleasant to look at, but I still enjoy the puzzle aspect.  I was considering trying to beat it for the first time for this thread, but I guess you beat me to it.

I have the Jaguar GameDrive, so I can play any Jag game, but I don't know of any other games I could play through to completion.  Most of the games I enjoy, I'm not great at.  I love Power Drive Rally, but I can't finish some of the later more challenging races.  I also enjoy Trevor McFur, but I can only beat it with cheat codes.  Tempest 2000 is fun, but when I play it, I only play until I run out of lives.  I can't beat that game, and I don't enjoy it enough to play it over and over until I get good enough to beat it.  Doom is a possibility, but playing it with the Jag controller isn't ideal.

  6. I always enjoyed being able to play Galaga during the loading screen on some of the Namco games during the PS1 era.  I always wondered why other games didn't do something similar.  I didn't realize until almost 30 years later that Namco was able to get a patent on loading screen games.  I would never of thought of that as something that could be patented.  It's too bad, because it was a great way to pass the time during the loading screen, which was often times very long during that era.

Man, I probably got over 80% of my Wii U collection, and at least half of my Vita collection from Gamestop.  Plus plenty of other stuff over the years when they were doing clearance sales.  I bought so much Wii junk from them one time too, it was disgusting looking back on it.  😆

During the PS4/XBone era, I bought so much PS3, Wii and Wii U stuff from GameStop for really good deals.  I bought games that I was interested in.  I wasn't just buying shovelware.  I could have easily bought WAY more if I was buying everything that was cheap.  I remember thinking during that time, that there was no other place anywhere selling these types of games as cheap as GS.

Unfortunately, the PS5/SeriesX era hasn't been the same.  Due to COVID and other issues, the current gen took off much slower, and a very high % of users continued to use the previous gen for an extended amount of time.  This kept prices for those games higher and made it harder to find deals.  Within the past year, we have finally gotten to the point where PS4 prices should start dropping, but now GS now carries such a small amount of inventory, they are no longer able to offer the types of deals that they did in the past.

I've got a bunch of Japanese imports I'd like to get rid of in one big lot.  Just pay for a medium flat rate box and they're yours (I take payment by USPS money order).  N64 ones are cart only, most of the others have the case and manual.  Tested most of them, but no guarantee that they will all work.

    Nintendo 64:
    Jikkyou J League Perfect Striker
    Choukuukan Night: Pro Yakyuu King

    DS:
    Big Brain Academy
    Brain Age
    Dokodemo Pilates
    Dream Skincare
    Kabushiki Baibai Trainer: Kabutore!
    Tomodachi Collection

    PlayStation:
    Hoshi De Hakken Tamagochi
    Jet De Go!
    Minna No Golf
    Pilot Ni Narou!

    Saturn:
    Sim City 2000
    Theme Park

    I'm interested.

I know you said that you wanted to do everything as a single lot, but if someone is interested in the Nintendo stuff, I would be willing to split it with them.

  9. Because of the nature of the 3DS hardware (and its age), I think it will be a long time before we ever see a good way to play original carts on anything other than the original hardware.  I just don't see any type of clone console or something with the quality of an Analogue system coming anytime soon.  I think for now we are stuck just using the actual 3DS hardware.  Since the 3DS is also backwards compatible with the DS library, those consoles are obviously the most desirable and will fetch the best prices.

TMNT2 is shorter and IMO plays at a better pace because you can quickly kill most enemies in one hit with your special attack. That's why I prefer TMNT2 even though both are good.

I agree.  I love both games, but I remember some of the later levels in TMNT 3 have some enemies that take way too many hits, and it starts to get a bit tedious.

TMNT 2 and 3 are both great games, but TMNT 4 took it to a whole new level.

Just imagine, in a parallel universe the two highest rated (and nostalgia-driven) games are Minecraft and Fortnite 😄

When my kinds are in their 40s, I'm sure they will have nostalgic feelings for Minecraft and Roblox and they will be complaining about the crappy games their kids are playing.

It's also interesting that I'd imagine many of us were in high school in the 2000s, but many of the songs from that era actually underperform.

Does that speak to how that era is looked at?  Have I just somehow avoided the songs that people have strong feelings for?  Have the numbers and matchups just not worked in their favor?  All of the above?

I'm not sure why, but the music I listed to in the 2000s hasn't aged nearly as well as the music I listened to in the 80s and 90s.  I've thought about this before, but I can't pin point a reason.

I'm checking the previous brackets right now, and at a glance it appears that by the end of the third round every single song left standing has been from the 1980s or 1990s.

...with the sole exception of Change/Pump It, because that region had two songs from 2000 as their oldest entries.

It's almost like this forum is full of people who grew up during that era and enjoy that kind of music.......

With that said, our ages really show up in our poll results.  Just look at the Fortnite debate.

  14. Probably my second favorite Mario game, but I'm still going with a 10.  This was also the most excited I have ever been for a new Mario game (including the release of SMB3).  I remember being surprised and a little disappointed that it wasn't called SMB4, but I got over that soon (I didn't know about the Japanese name until many years later).  Despite being my second favorite Mario title, I probably have more hours in this game than anything else from the mainline Mario series.

  15. Strange coincidence, but I just recently binged all three Naked Gun movies about a week ago.  He was in all three of them and played a pretty hilarious character.  While watching part 3, it got me wondering about when it was filmed in relation to the murders.  I looked it up and found that Naked Gun 33 1/3 was released the same year that the murders took place.  It's kind of strange to imagine those two events so close to each other.

  16. I used to be a runner, which is part of where I came up with my user name, but after more than 20 years and however many thousands of miles, I started to develop knee issues that have prevented me from continuing.  I eventually switched over to cycling as it gave me similar enjoyment without the impact on my knees.  I'm fortunate because the county I live in has hundreds of miles of bike trails all interconnected in a massive system that links me to all of the surrounding areas.  My county also has one of the oldest "rail to trail" bike trails in the entire country.    I've been pretty bad about riding the past few years, but I'm hoping to get back into it again this year.  I have a decent road bike.  Nothing too fancy.
