  1. 850,216 Nowhere near a major score ... just wanted to show off my Recca cart.
  2. This is pretty much what happened to me. I tried a couple of times Friday night and couldn't even get out of Stage 2, wasn't having any fun at all. It's a weird feeling to not want to play a game I like.
  3. 130,600 Just one attempt! I wasn’t aware of the barrel glitch but I did trigger it once anyway.
  4. I have seen all of the Indiana Jones movies, even the fourth one that everyone seems to want to forget ever happened. I watched them all just once, all in a row, probably 10 years ago or more by now. It was so long ago that I forgot pretty much everything from any of the movies, but not so long ago that I remembered that I enjoyed this one the most. That seems to fall in line with the consensus of the series. This movie had to have been well loved because the NES ended up with two video game adaptations of the movie, both bearing the name of the film. These aren’t just label variants, but two completely different games. They are distinguished by the publisher, so this game is considered the Taito version and the other is the Ubisoft version. While the comparison between those two may be more interesting, I can safely say I enjoyed this one more than Temple of Doom, at least. Full Review: #151 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Taito)
  5. Hey, it’s another milestone post! Finally made it to #150! The milestones on the 50s have been pretty kind to me so far. Let’s recap. Game #50 was Dragon Warrior, which is a very nostalgic game from my childhood and a nice one for that spot on the list. Game #100 was Milon’s Secret Castle. While not the most classic title to remember, it was one I played a lot growing up. Plus, I got to beat the second loop for the first time which was nice. So, I was pretty excited to get to #150, only for it to be Double Dribble. Another basketball game! This is the 5th of 10 basketball games so we are already halfway done. But the good thing is that this tends to be regarded as one of the best basketball games on the NES. Maybe this one won’t be so bad. Full Review: #150 - Double Dribble
  6. I'm pretty sure that the last time we played this I submitted a score of 100, funny that now that is overdoing it! I think I'm gonna do one attempt sometime this week and submit whatever I get. Will be slightly less practice then the last couple of these!
  7. I like Raph’s special because it’s quick and doubles as an evasive maneuver.
  8. 853,200 I think this is the farthest I’ve made it on one credit.
  9. I would have had to try more than a couple of times to do that.
  10. 1,079,850 I played with safe tipping strategy until I got overzealous in World 8 which cost me a little.
  11. It’s been awhile since I’ve played a game that brought me to a point of real frustration and anger. I think as I’m getting older, I am mellowing out a little bit and I put up with a lot more in my gaming. I have to if I’m going to play all these NES games, and I also need to set a good example for my kids. Thankfully as I played this game alone late at night, I could vent my frustration a little. I didn’t go full out tantrum or anything, but I spent a fair amount of time visibly upset at this game. I wouldn’t say this is a bad game either. Hopefully I have your attention now to read on and see what you think of this game. Full Review: #149 - Raid on Bungeling Bay
  12. Maybe? If the next games on my list overlap with what's left here, then definitely I will. We are running out of games though so that's looking less likely all the time. I've been playing Little Ninja Brothers for the last couple of weeks. (Already been completed here of course.) But I think Kung-Fu Heroes is still on the board and it's possible I can take that one to help out. I'm not sure these games are often played to completion these days, but definitely more back in the day. Imagine a kid bored in the early 90's who likes baseball and I can see a full season or two pretty easily.
  13. It was back in November after it had already been done for last year's thread.
  14. I just finished Bases Loaded II a few months ago. You have to win 75 games, then you go to the playoffs and you have to win 4 more games to beat it. So 79 games total. I can't speak for Bases Loaded 4, but I thought both the first two games were pretty easy, just long. For the first game I found a pitching exploit for perfect games every time, so it is very easy to win but it is unspeakably long and slow to get through the 80 wins. I could not find an exploit like that for BL2 but found it to have a much quicker pace. Something like 40 hours to complete BL1 and 25-30 hours for BL2.
  15. Sorry for the delay in replying! I would agree to count Black Bass as completed. You get the same tournament victory screen no matter which date you get 1st place or which Class A lake you earn 1st on. Nicely done @Crabmaster2000
  16. NES Black Box games are always worth celebrating for being the fun launch titles that helped propel the NES to great success in the 1980s. I like to celebrate Gyromite both as a launch title and the introduction of the world to R.O.B. He was the gateway of the introduction to the NES in the North American market and we should be eternally grateful to him for that. Unfortunately, beyond his two launch games, he was relegated to closets gathering dust. I'm here as part of a micro-revival to push R.O.B. back into the spotlight again, however brief. I have the full set to play Gyromite and I took advantage of that for writing this very extensive blog post about the game. Full Review: #148 - Gyromite
  17. I get email alerts for this thread, so I was reading and following along (even before I was tagged) but I'm just now getting a chance to reply. I did do a write-up on this one with some tips and my path to winning: http://takeontheneslibrary.com/finished/83-the-black-bass/ I believe you can do the strategy you outlined: Skip the first 9 days and win the final three. You don't even need to win Class C or B, just get 5th or better in that tournament to advance. (That would be 101st-105th in Class C and 51st-55th in Class B, if I am remembering the placings right.) The only bad thing about that is that the later days in the season have shorter tournament hours and then it more challenging to get the amount of good size bass you need to win. Also there are two Class A lakes, so it's up to you if you care about playing both of them in the game. This game really has two "endings." The 1st place tournament win, and the end message at the end of the season. I just made a video of the final lake, so for the sake of optics only I wanted to do both at the same time. If it were up to me, I would say it's fine to get 1st place and finish the season separately to say it's beaten.
  18. Where is Time is Carmen Sandiego is done! Definitely felt some pain points on this one even though none were up for grabs. https://twitter.com/arnpoly/status/1246678538675249152
  19. The Ren & Stimpy Show really came out of nowhere. At the time, kids TV network Nickelodeon decided to create some original cartoons they called Nicktoons. The first three Nicktoons were Doug, Rugrats, and The Ren & Stimpy Show. We were a Nickelodeon household and I watched those three shows a lot as a kid. Of the three, though, Ren & Stimpy was the one I was least interested in. Maybe that says something about me as a person, I don't know. For Nickelodeon, Ren & Stimpy was their runaway success, paving the way for Nickelodeon to keep content creation going up to now and for who knows how long after. While not a great game necessarily, Buckaroo$ was a bit of a nostalgia trip for me and it surprised me how many aspects of the show I still remember today. Review: #147 - The Ren & Stimpy Show: Buckaroo$!
  20. 316,400 Didn’t play much, but should have done better.
  21. I was thumbing through the requirements and it looks like I inadvertently beat Short Order/Eggsplode. The Power Pad is helping as a distraction for my daughter and me during all the shelter-in-place stuff, so it's possible I'll knock out more of the Power Pad stuff as we go. I'm at 35/80 cases completed in Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? It's gonna take a little more than a week to complete that at my current rate.
  22. It's another basketball game! This one though has a little bit of pedigree as it seems to be the inspiration or prototype for NBA Jam, which I think is still one of the most fondly remembered basketball games. I don't play many sports games but I did play a lot of NBA Jam. This was a pretty fun game, but it is lacking a little in substance and not one I think I'll go back to.
