  1. Hey all, just spent my afternoon at work skimming through the thread.  Thanks for leaving Solar Jetman for me, I'm roughly 3/4 of the way through it and should be finished with it in a week or so.  Fun game that is clicking with me, just that I get worn out of playing after every stage.  My pace of playing games has been glacial, to put it kindly.

I could *maybe* be convinced to give Ikari Warriors another go this year.  When I beat it years ago I didn't have any recording equipment, and I'd like to beat it again on video some day.

  2. Also just realized that I have been a bad member and not been contributing my NES clears.  I saw Solomon's Key was left unbeaten last year but I did that one for the first time in 2023 and never posted it.  It's been slow going on my end, I only did 5 clears on my list all of last year.

I will say that next up on my personal list is Solar Jetman, planning on starting up that one up this month.  I'll be sure to share when that's done so that I can actually contribute again!

Thanks, but I'm not sure that's accurate. In both walkthroughs I've watched where the 10K bonus was achieved (NintendoComplete and also @arnpoly's), it was awarded right after the bonus bottle stage, which is prior to the 3rd and final stage, and in both runs they did not miss a single shot on the bottle bonus. Additionally, in both runs they ended up with 84 - 87.5% overall accuracy.

I just completed a run that ended up at 89% accuracy (cheesed the zapper by holding it right up to the screen) and did not get the 10K bonus - I missed one measly shot on the bonus level.

This leads me to believe that the 10K award is driven by 100% accuracy specifically on the bottle bonus level, not overall accuracy.

From my notes, I only got the 10K bonus by clearing the bonus stage without missing.

It was a few years ago, but I think I earned the 10k bonus after the spooky level, lost it after leaving a bottle behind on the bar stage, and then had it reappear after the space stage. I really think the bonus 10k is tied to game-wide hit %.

This is interesting!  Certainly possible.  But I can say for sure they only way I got it was clearing the bottles no-miss.

it doesn't lol, the breakout level is what is important and how you choose to get there, fairy water and torches can be used for 100% guaranteed hits, so sometimes that helps.  also, the sword or armor can be in the throne room, you just have to figure your way out of it!

To add to this, easier enemies are guaranteed to be near the starting castle to help you get started, and the nearby zones are locked down to easy-ish enemy sets too.  And of course as randomizers go sometimes you start with good stats or spells or what have you.  It's rare, but possible to get boxed out of that easy enemy zone and then you really are at the mercy of the randomizer.  I've had it happen once or twice and managed to push through anyway.

  5. I finished Brain Drain on Genius difficulty, the highest difficulty.

Was testing out some carts I'd been meaning to clean and got addicted to this one.  Tough game!

I also beat Mega Man: Dr Wily's Revenge but no picture.

I'm most of the way through Final Fantasy Legend but I started that in December so it won't count.  😛

    The Pocket is pretty awesome.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for uploading so many quality videos about NES games to YouTube. I went through the library late last year to see if I overlooked any interesting games, and your videos were incredibly helpful throughout that process. Glad to see you're on VGS!

    Thank you kindly!

I definitely haven't been around much like I used to be but I will keep an eye on the effort here and contribute as it lines up with what I'm doing

@arnpolydidn't reply so far, so he is out. I will extend the invitation for the next ones in line and update later today.
I was to update you all on this matter yesterday, but I crashed hard after working 40 hours straight and being up for 48 hours total.

Terribly sorry for not replying before now, please forgive me. I was planning to decline anyway. Good luck everyone!

  8. Bases Loaded 4 is coming up on my list, thought I'd check here to see if it was still available, and it's already done.  😄

I would have contributed more this year had things lined up differently.  I started playing Ultima 3 around Thanksgiving and didn't finish it until April (couldn't beat it without hints but got close enough that I'm satisfied) so that hamstrung me all year for the thread, aside from a TMNT run right after the new year.  It's very unlikely that our lists will overlap this year but if it does I'll be happy to help.

  9. 563,500 (503,500 + 60,000)

Maybe a disappointing score to some, but this was the best I could pull off.  I was able to beat every stage deathless in practice, but stringing it altogether is really tough.  I do want to do a pure deathless run someday without warps, and now at least I know I can.  I decided to do one run warpless, with regular play, just to hit the 500K mark and that's the run I kept.  (This run died in Karnath's Lair lol.) Couldn't make it past Robo-Manus in an actual run of this with warps.  But anyway I usually have a death or two in Terra Tubes, and I'm not great at The Revolution or Dark Queen yet as far as no deaths.  I did get pretty consistent no-deathing Rat Race and Clinger Winger though, that's good at least!
