You know, you're right, it does feel like it would be right at home there conceptually.  Perhaps it is done a little better than what an Apple II version might have looked like.

I remember reading about this game when it came out and it was already being called a hidden gem, mostly because it was a solid game tucked away near the end of the PS2 life span.  I grabbed it pretty soon after, played it a few times, and haven't touched it since.  It came up again recently on a podcast I was listening to, and now this review.  I think that means I need to dig it out and give it a play soon.
