  1. Many thanks to @MegaVolt for an awesome transaction! Super fast shipping, and everything was very well packaged!
  2. PMing you… I’m nearly dead broke, but you have several items on my wish list
  3. It was awarded as a prize for a Famicom Golf competition in Japan prior to the official retail release of Mike Tyson’s Punch Out. My understanding is that only 10k total copies were produced. It originally came with a box and instructions, but I wasn’t willing to pony up the $600+ for a complete copy. Plus the gold cartridge is really the cool part from my perspective. More info: https://famicomworld.com/workshop/articles/the-holy-grails/holy-grails-punch-out-special/
  4. Finally grabbed a gold Famicom Punch Out!! cart. Need to find a better place to display it, but excited that I managed to grab it for a fairly reasonable price.
  5. Just some Japanese Virtual Boy games. Some are allegedly brand new. Maybe they didn’t shrink wrap these in Japan?
  6. CIB Adventure Island signed by Takahashi Meijin. Found this on Yahoo Auctions Japan and was shocked to have zero competing bids. Perhaps because it’s an NES game in the land of Famicom? Either way, I’m super exited to add this to the collection.
  7. Is the CIB Donkey Kong Classics for NES still available? If so, I’d love to see photos to determine the condition.
  8. Hudson all the way! Adventure Island series, Bonk, and Bomberman are all classics.
  9. Conquest of the Crystal Palace - NES. I was just introduced to this game maybe five years ago, and it seems like something I would’ve loved as a kid in the glory days of the NES.
  10. @Code Monkey- Yeah, I was using a standard text search on Google. I’m not familiar with what you’re describing, but at any rate this thread provided the info I needed.
  11. @Code Monkey - I had no idea that the parent system was called Famicombox until someone provided a link with context in this thread. All I had to go on was that this was a black Adventure Island cartridge labeled “for business” in Japanese with an upside down label. Google searches including combinations of those terms mostly returned results for home brew carts in aftermarket black shells. Not sure how you searched in your screenshot above, but I wasn’t finding anything.
  12. I’m a sucker for peer pressure, so I bought it lol. You may see it posted in the “Selling” forum if I have buyer’s remorse.
  13. @MrWunderful - The cost would be around $120 USD shipped. The seller is in Japan. Since you have some experience with these carts, do you know if they can be played in an NTSC NES console, or something like the AVS/Analogue NT? The form factor looks identical to an NTSC NES cart, but I can’t find a definitive answer online as to whether they can be played as such on a US console.
  14. @360collector - Thank you! That was a huge help in understanding what this cart is. Now I’m still debating whether I want it at ~$120 or so after shipping…
  15. Hey all, I came across a cartridge for sale that I’ve never seen before, and wanted to see if anyone from the VGS community could offer any context. The cart appears to be black with an upside down Japanese label indicating that the game is Adventure Island, and the text near the Mario image translates to “for business.” I tried a google search, but came up empty handed. I have attached an image, if that helps. Has anyone ever come across a cart like this and, if so, do you have any context on relative value/rarity? I’m a huge Adventure Island fan, so I’m tempted to pick it up, but I want to understand what it is first. Thanks in advance for any input!
  16. I’m using a Pelican 1040: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DQOL5U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The solid lid models are pretty much a perfect fit. The clear models don’t have the same padding on the inside of the top lid (which is how they’re clear), so only buy a solid color if going this route.
  17. He actually had another buyer ready to close the deal at full asking price, which is what ultimately forced my hand to make a decision. Unfortunately, it’s sold by now.
  18. To conclude this saga, I ended up passing on the cabinet. I think I liked the idea of owning it more than the reality that included repairs and ongoing maintenance. I have a ton of nostalgia for the NES days, but I spent those in front of a CRT in my living room, not in an arcade. I’ll have to just be satisfied with the ridiculous number of NES and Famicom carts in my collection. Maybe I’ll finally get an NES Advantage to make passing on the PC10 less painful. Thanks for the input, all. Your guidance was seriously helpful in allowing me to make an informed decision on this.
  19. Hey all, Thanks for the input, and sorry for the delayed reply. The cabinet looks to be in good shape overall, and the only noticeable cosmetic issue I saw was some separation on the cabinet trim on the bottom right side. I don’t have any photos, unfortunately. I did see the metal Nintendo plaque on the back panel. From what I could tell of the insides, they looked relatively clean, and I didn’t see spiderwebs or anything else unusual in there. I haven’t used one of these machines since I was a child, and even then only a few times, so I’m not sure of what sounds/etc would be expected but I didn’t hear anything when it was plugged in. The seller didn’t make any mention of previous screen issues, just said it worked fine last time he plugged it up about two years ago. He said it has ten games installed, but he only remembered SMB3, Punch Out, Tecmo Bowl, and Chip&Dale Rescue Rangers. I asked about where he got it, and he said that his uncle owned a bar, and took it from there to give him as a house warming present. I don’t doubt anything about his story or accounting it working last time he tried it, he seemed honest about it all and willing to negotiate given that it no longer works. I’m definitely feeling torn about this. On one hand, it would be an awesome piece to have for nostalgia, but I don’t own any other cabinets and have no interest in collecting them. I’d also want to get it fixed and not really sure how to go about doing that or what it would cost. It would also need to live in my detached garage due to space constraints, and the garage isn’t heated/cooled, but is fully insulated. I’m not sure how it would hold up in that environment long-term, although it seems relatively common for people to store their cabinets in the garage. I’m considering offering $350, and I’m thinking he’d be receptive to that offer. Just on the fence given the concerns I mentioned above. FYI - @Tanooki @Mega Tank @SNESNESCUBE64 @Khromak
  20. Hey all, I came across a single monitor Nintendo Play Choice 10 arcade cabinet that’s literally right down the street from me, but when I went to check it out it doesn’t work. When plugged in, there is a three digit counter that lights up with a zero, but the monitor doesn’t seem to turn on. The seller claims that it worked fine last time they turned it on about two years ago. It seems to have been stored in an attached garage during that time. The exterior cabinet looks to be in pretty good physical condition from what I saw, and the inside didn’t look damaged or anything from what I could tell. I don’t have any arcade cabinets and have zero experience with them, so I don’t know what I’d be getting into with this thing. So, I guess I have two questions: What is a fair price for this thing in non-working condition? He’s asking $425 but willing to negotiate since it doesn’t work and he’s moving soon. Any idea of how easy/difficult it would be to find someone to repair this cabinet? Any thoughts from the community would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Pulled the trigger on the No More Heroes “Killion Dollar Trilogy” from Amazon japan this week. I have a lot of nostalgia for the Wii era (and everything before it made by Nintendo), so I figured I’d regret passing on it after not buying the LRG versions of NMH1 and NMH2. Also looking forward to the Monkey Ball collection next month. Monkey target is among the best local multiplayer experiences of all time.
  22. I was initially planning to buy one, but I’ve changed my mind. The price is steep for what it is, but I understand why given the low production run and international shipping included in the price. I know PCEWorks gets a bad rep from some who dislike the fact that they’re making repros, but the quality of their products is top notch, so I’d assume this console will be done well despite being an emulator box. Like others have said in this thread, I’ll stick to original hardware until I can get my hands on an Analogue Duo (if it ever sees the light of day).
  23. I actually prefer TG16 from a collecting standpoint, as I’m one of the seemingly few that actually likes the goofy art style and more basic HuCard design. I’m definitely also interested in getting some of the PCE exclusive releases, but more focused on the US releases for the nostalgia factor. I know it sounds arbitrary, but aiming for all HuCards released in North America (even if it’s the PCE version) gives me some direction and a goal. For games like Magical Chase and others that are atrociously expensive, I’m fine with a high quality repro, but that’s just me. I already have an SSDS3 and Turbo Everdrive, so this is more of a collection focus rather than practical gaming focus. I’ve literally never finished an entire console library set despite collecting basically my entire life, so I’m hoping this goal is realistic with the caveats of PCE and repros being acceptable when necessary.
  24. Still trying to decide how deep I’m going to get into TG16 collecting. I was originally just trying to replace my childhood collection that I sold off about 10 years ago, but started back with PCE versions since they were super cheap. That didn’t scratch the nostalgia itch, so now I have most of my childhood titles on PCE and TG16. I’m thinking about going for a full “set” of all titles released in North America, but remaining agnostic about whether I buy the PCE or TG16 version. Decisions, decisions
