So it looks like we are at the end of the list.  I'm interested to see what @WalterWhiteJr. takes from the box, but I'm also new to this.  What happens at the end?

At the end it comes back to me, I'll take something for myself like everyone else and take a picture of everything that came in the box so all can see what was in it when it got back.. Then In a couple on months start over again. I usually send it out twice a year. Once after the holidays and once somewhere in the summer.

The two time frames allows for people to get new stuff in the holiday season and maybe clean out some old stuff to make room and put it in the box, and similarly in the summer after the "spring cleaning" season when everyone can also hit up the flea markets and garage sales and maybe find some more stuff. Exact dates are just based on me getting to it

I give a month for people to find the thread and sign up and then depending on how shipping goes (this time was surprisingly efficient and I think the fastest it has ever gone) a couple months to make the round.

My speed of buying things has slowed down dramatically as well. Once I completed the full sets I was after the mailman was probably happy to not have to come to my door every day with 2-3 packages at a time. Now I’m lucky if I get anything new every week. I’m definitely buying more quality as well, I am over buying filler games to just complete a set. I’ve really been focusing on NES homebrew for some reason but did also just add Fire Emblem for GameCube as well. It’s really fun not just slagging through a set and buying whatever tickles your fancy. I’m excited to wander the vendor area at MGC in a couple weeks and see what catches my eye. I’ve got a couple things on a list but nothing crazy price wise.

Oh my mail lady would give me some real side eye back in the day. Especially around 2012-2013 I would have days with 6 or 10 padded envelops with games getting delivered and packed into my mailbox.

Absolutely. I was once upon a time collecting for a number of things, but then I switched to collecting some NFR stuff. These days I am not actively persuing much of anything in terms of console games.

Since about 2020 or so I've been primarily focused on my arcade collecting and repair projects. I've also shifted a lot of my focus to pcb design in the context of arcade and pinball. For now though, I'll really only be buying games I actively want to play.

Do you chronicle your PCB design anywhere? I design PCB's at work and would love to see what your working on.

  4. The speed at which I acquire things has slowed down as Ive completed collections and have fewer and fewer things on the “need” list, but the goal has never changed. Still going for full sets. I always bounce around to different focuses. This year has been mainly the 5200 side of my collection, last year was N64 manuals, the year prior Strategy guides. Next year might be 7800 or Colecovision

    Ok, I have THE BOX

I need some help identifying some of these items.  There is a pouch labeled GBA SP parts, but these items were not in it.  To me this looks like some coin cell battery holders (for which system/cart?) a portable screen (is it GBA SP?) a link cable (is it also GBA?) and some plastic separators or holders of some kind.

Also what system is this copy of Disc Room for?  I would open it, but it is sealed.

I can answer one thing. The battery holders are generic. You can use them whatever way you can get them to fit in any given cart that uses a battery (NES, N64, blah blah) The little gear looking things with them are replacement gears for N64 controllers so someone can refurbish they’re dead analog stick in the controller.

    The rest I don’t know

  6. It’s not any better at least on reddit. Often times individual subs have rules against posts that generally would be asked by newcomers and naturally those kind of posts become tiresome/repetitive to “veterans.” The “is this game fake/how do I start collecting/what’s your desert island games.” etc

But as a hobby gets older it naturally becomes gatekeepy in that way just because veterans are tired of the same old same old.

I don’t think I actively dunk on newbies I either skip over they’re posts entirely or I end up in an argument with someone else in the thread that’s been at it for a while and gives what I believe to be bad advice. (Specifically using abrasives of any kind to clean a pcb, I’ll argue against that until I die)

The controls are absolute garbage making it nearly unplayable in any level that requires precision jumping.  This is even worse for those who played the originals enough to develop muscle memory on the platforming.

Ah, I never played the originals so I had nothing to compare it too

I definitely have high hopes, and everything I've seen is keeping me excited.  However, after the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy Remaster, I will always have a fear that the end product will be a disaster.

What’s wrong with the Crash Bandicoot collection?

I personally appreciate ports of older games! The fact that you can actually purchase a physical copy instead of a digital copy makes me happy 🙂

I think the recent slew of ports is not so much an LRG thing as it is that there is enough interest in classic gaming. It was Konami that released the Felix the Cat Collection for the PS Store and Switch Store --
    https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP0101-PPSA19225_00-0159266583099383

Also, the digital copy is $25 -- and LRG is charging $35 for the physical edition. A no-brainer decision to me!

Eh, It just comes off as lazy me. If they got something substantial added to them like the Atari collection got when it released or something, I could be more excited. As it is now they just slap the rom on a cart

As for LRG's recent announcements, here's the stuff I'm finding interesting:

Ninja Five-O is just a lazy emulator release (that's what "Carbon Engine" means), but for anyone who wasn't lucky to snatch a copy on GBA when it was possibly to get for human money, this is good news.

Hi-Fi Rush has been a Microsoft exclusive until now, so getting a PS5 port is awesome, and LRG are putting out physicals on both PlayStation and Xbox.

Im thinking lazy ports of older games is the future of LRG. Well, the present too but it’s become more obvious to me

Hot dang.... this one is $400 CAD.... 🙈 I do believe #2 and #3 are there as well. Most are ~$20, but <#20 and they jump. I just paid $70 for #6 😆

I grabbed a bunch (6, 11, 13, 18, 22, 24, 27, 36, 55) at some lower prices. Took some in worse shape, but most had posters, etc. I averaged them out to about $20 each so I was happy about that. I did balk on the #1-3, though. I think they would have been like $600 for all 3.... sssssooooo..... I left them for now. 😳

Yeah, I hear ya on the lot deal. That would be best.

Just happened to come across some at the local video game shop.  I'm trying to get as many as I can in the NES/SNES Era. As soon as it jumps into N64 I'm out.

I've got one "later" issue (#69) and they change the cover design to a more "90's"/"hardcore" aesthetic which I really don't like. Plus as the magazine gets away from the NES games, I'm not so interested.

I went with the end of N64 as my cutoff. So I have issues 1-150. I could never stand the Gamecube. I think 150 is the one that has Luigi on the cover that says “It’s here” on the cover or something like that. Or it’s the last one that has the logo on the corner showing it covered something N64 related. I forget.

Ive always been meaning to see if there was an issue that covered Tony Hawk 3 for N64 since that came out much later than issue 150 but haven’t gotten around to it

last time i was paying attention, the going rate for #1 in decent shape (with the poster) was about $100 US. But that's been a few years so has probably gone up. most of the other early issues were quite a bit less expensive. With a little looking, $20 would secure you most of them. i think #2 still held a premium, but significantly less than #1. Obviously VERY beneficial to grab lots when buying the early mags.

Dam, Glad I grabbed the first 10 issues in a lot back in the day for like $75

I think there are state specific rules in play here as well so it might be helpful to list what state you are curious on

Your first question I would speculate that after you are given the loan it won’t matter much how many occupants live in the house as long as the mortgage gets paid. On the second I’ll again speculate that if you have access to the account/money it’ll still count as yours whether or not the joint owner lives in the property. The fact sheet also says they only look at income but you are probably right to assume they look at assets as well when determining the subsidy granted.

They have a neat eligibility assessment tool here which may answer some questions for you as well

    https://eligibility.sc.egov.usda.gov/eligibility/welcomeAction.do?pageAction=assessmentType

Yea Ive gone through the tool and read all the documents I can find. They don’t answer these two key questions. There’s no way I can make any assumptions on a government program, it’s a good way to get screwed.

Im in NJ and I know what the income limits are and they’re very clear that any adult in the home will count towards the income limits but they are very unclear on occupancy changes. What’s to stop someone from just saying “yup only me moving in.” and then bringing a sibling in a week later?

The second question is much more important. Because your assets are not used to determine the loan amount they’ll qualify you for. There are asset limits (the exact number Im also having a hard time pinning down). If you exceed said limit then you’re required to use anything in excess of the limit towards the purchase of the house. Which kinda defeats one of the benefits of this loan type which is 0% down payment, but whatever.

So if the limit is 15k and you have 17k is assets across various checking/savings accounts. Then you’re required to use that excess 2k.

Now if you have a joint account with someone that can be a problem, because theoretically all of what’s in that account may is not fully yours. If that person were to live with you, all fine and dandy because all their stuff goes into the calculation anyway. But if they don’t then is the whole amount still considered your asset and you would be required to use said funds? Then you could be digging into funds that aren’t “yours.”

I would just ask away, even if someone on the internet says they are an expert I’d still not treat it as any more than speculation. You pay experts for their advice lol

I guess, you have a point. So my questions are:

The incomes of all adult occupants are taken into account for the loan amount/approval. But what happens some time after the purchase of the home and the occupancy number changes (marriage/divorce/death/etc)

When looking at assets, how are joint accounts considered when one of the account holders won't be one of the occupants?
