  1. Akalabeth (Apple II) - Very early CRPG Panorama Toh (PC-88) - Very early JRPG NWC Gold (NES) - Gotta complete my NES cart set, and this is of course necessary as everyone agrees. Doom v1.1 5.25" floppy version - Not any earlier than the 3.5" floppy version but way cooler. Donkey Kong red cabinet, converted from Radar Scope. I don't have room for this but if price/rarity don't matter, than space can't either.
  2. You caused me to make a T-Pac-induced FOMO purchase with this thread
  3. Being old doesn’t necessarily equate to cave drawings. Robotron came out the same year and is still a lot more crazy and fun than many twin stick shooters. I don’t think Pitfall is one of the ones that compares favorably to even most games that came out just 2 years afterwards though.
  4. Don’t blame me, blame Reed’s evil rules.
  5. It feels impossible to strip it from the historical context. In vacuum, the screens are way too samey remixes of the same few elements and it's not exciting to map a straight line to find all the treasures. Maybe it's challenging to do a run with no damage but I've never tried that. 5/10?
  6. Pssht you've only been playing since what, last summer?
  7. There's some wonkiness with the display. They originally claimed it was 1600x1200, people couldn't get it to work properly, and now for this product they're claiming 1440x1080 (so a different panel?). It looks cool but I'd wait for reviews to make sure they don't half-ass the finish line the display because you won't find a 4:3 replacement as big.
  8. They confirmed on Discord you can literally submit HD-DVDs. Zing denied.
  9. Maybe I'd pick Runescape. After another few decades maybe I'll have time to learn how to actually PVP.
  10. Gotta be a series with impossible lifelong grinds like Ultima Online/Runescape/Path of Exile or something endlessly creative like Minecraft. Even the longest RPGs and most replayable action games get boring after 100s of hours. Mario would get you Mario Maker 2, which has essentially endless content and creative aspects, so that wouldn't be a bad choice.
  11. I remember seeing those, potentially on Dealextreme. It's just a cheap as heck novelty Chinese controller. Dealextreme was a direct to consumer Chinese marketplace like Aliexpress before that was big in the US. I got a bunch of PS2 mod chips and stuff there.
  12. 15 years ago: A boy finds a forum with a bunch of Nintendo nerds who like the same rare obsolete games 2024: The Dark Knight blu-ray 9.2 A+ To be clear this is a real tweet. I know there were memes about this when Wata launched @OptOut for good measure.
  13. Maybe not that much better than Diablo II, but I feel like ARPGs have advanced past D2 and because RTSs are totally dead, SC2 might just be the best one ever.
  14. Starcraft II is by far the best Blizzard game
  15. Super Mario Kart runs at 60fps. How embarrassing that a next gen kart racer plays like Microsoft Powerpoint. It’s better than MK64 though, I love this game. There’s so much to explore and do and I remember some of it being pretty challenging like the bosses or Greenwood Village silver coins, but it’s possible I was just a dumb kid at the time. 8/10
  16. Sub-Terrania Shatter Hotline Miami I could say “better” soundtracks but these are the ones I keep listening to.
  17. Got a nice Wizardry upgrade. The earliest prints have a copyright typo and errata notice stamped on the inside.
  18. I love Sonic CD and its stupid level design. I liked it even more before I played S3&K and Sonic Mania! But still one of the few Sonic games I actually think is great. It's also probably the least enjoyable Sonic game to play through just once? It's less of a spin dash to the right and jump sometimes game than most Sonics. 8/10.
  19. Next episode (well, next next episode because we've already recorded the next episode)
  20. Pinball Wizard is is the worst if you play pinball. Every time someone learns you play pinball, they single half a lyric from the song. It's like if you told someone like you video games and they consistently went "Duh duh duh do duh duh do" from SMB. Every single time.
  21. I would say Poke-uh-mon in polite company but my brain does enjoy a good Poke-ay-mon due to this 90s classic.
