I know the original is a very respected slasher film, but through osmosis I know it's also a very basic movie where very little happens. I have no interest in the core genre which has never been able to do anything for me, so I doubt its promordial incarnation will fare any better. On top of that, no John Carpenter movies I've watched have been all that exciting to me. As much as I wanted to be part of the crowd that cherishes his stuff, none of them have been able to recruit me so far.

In short, I answered "no interest in watching" on all three. You guys can flame me if you want.

I put 9 on all of them. Its my favorite genre of movie. So all of the big franchises in it will always score high for me. (Except for Halloween 3) They’re like the burger and fries in the diner world. You get it knowing exactly what your getting, nothing fancy or impressive but something to satisfy the itch. So going in with high expectations is like expecting gourmet burger at the diner. It aint going to happen so don’t set yourself up for disappointment.

78 is probably my second fav movie of all time.  Rob Zombies is an embarrassment and ashamed to say I saw it in theaters because 'I had to'.  2018 was such a great refresher because Michael wasn't an embarrassment.  Great music, great mask.

As much as I love 78, it created this slasher monster than we can't really come back from.  If 78 was released today it would be massacred by the ADHD crowd.  But then they watch Halloween Kills and say its boring?!  I don't understand people.

Anyway, I rewatched it a few days ago (Don't watch it nearly as much as Dawn) and noticed some issues with it I never heard anyone else mentioned.  People are weird that they'll criticize HK for things but leave the original alone about.

This!  I was talking to someone about Halloween Kills and they said the story was dumb.  I asked if they watched porn for story too?  I mean, what slasher movies actually have a great story?  None.  Its just a vehicle needed to at least give their killers motivation.  The lack of that is what made Halloween scary, then subsequently ruined it with a sequel haha

Plenty do.

And I think Rob Zombie's Halloween gets too much ridicule. I mean when you are remaking Halloween that is going to happen, but it's honestly a fine movie. I don't know what people were expecting.

Can you name some then?  Ive seen a LOT, and all the classics.  Id actually say the coolest idea was Wes Cravens New Nightmare,

I thought all the stuff they did with Michaels family was just embarrassing, then basically recreating all of Halloween 1 within like 20 minutes.

Although, I do thank Rob for bringing in some great character actors from some of those older classic movies to get a paycheck.

the phrase i always use when critiquing old slasher movies is "too much storyline, not enough killing". i don't want a cinematic masterpiece or storytelling renaissance. I want blood. and killing. (and tits).

Funny because Halloween kinda started it, but F13 and Halloween 2 trying to up the ante is how we got here.

9/10 for both the original 1978 John Carpenter film and the modern sequel. I've watched the original more than any other horror/slasher movie (even more than Chucky), and like a lot of classic movies it has such memorable music. I was slightly disappointed that the modern sequel ignores the original sequel, since that movie picks up right where the original left off and Dr. Loomis is one of my favorite characters in the series. But I'm glad it ignores the other sequels (even if some of them are good), since I was very disappointed that Laurie was killed in Resurrection (and early on). Kind of cool that Nick Castle reprised his role as Michael Myers, even if it was only for one scene.

5/10 for the Rob Zombie remake. It was...decent I guess, and I did watch it in a Theater. I kind of liked that Brad Dourif (voice of Chucky) was Sheriff Brackett. The sequel, however, was garbage, and I actually kind of regret watching that one in Theaters.

Scream, Hatchet, Leslie Vernon

I dont know the last two but I think I remember seeing Scream in theatres when it came out.  I wasn't totally impressed IIRC.  I think I only saw it that one time but from what I remember it was just 2 friends obsessed with horror movies killing people?  Still seems flimsy to me.  Could be wrong though.

I legit had to think about the 2007 Halloween movie. I was trying to figure out which one it was, I completely forgot about the Rob Zombie remakes. Anyway original gets a 9, Rob Zombie one I went with 7 because it wasn't bad but probably one of the worse Halloween movies, and the 2018 one I went with 9 also because aside from H20 it was the only one that matched the greatness of the original.

9/2/9.

Original helped start the slasher genre (my favourite horror genre) and was ground breaking at the time. Great atmosphere, cast and soundtrack.

Rob Zombie remake was shit. The 2 description sums up my view. I’d go a 1 but I do love Rob Zombie’s other movies and music so I’ll give him an extra point.

2018 was a great return to form after an up and down series. Sure it did ask us to forget everything after the first ever happened but I went with it and tried not to over think it and ended up loving it.
