Only a couple of things lacking in this film.  Could've benefited from greater depth in the characters and, as amazing as the action/special effects are, the on again off again sine wave rollercoaster of demon-possessed attacking, then being temporarily out of commission gets to be just a little bit of a slog.  Fantastic example of how much can be done with so little.  Action, Effects, Sound and Bruce Campbell's Charisma are all top notch.  I can only imagine what it would have been like to see this in the theater having no idea what to expect.  I guess I have half of an idea, cuz I do remember the first time I saw this.  The way it kept doubling down on the gory action really threw me for an unexpected loop.  Probably an automatic 10 for historical significance.  8.5 for my personal preference.  I've always liked the 2nd film best.

...And remember kids, if you should find a book bound in the flesh of a human face next to a baby's skull fashioned into a saw handle; stay the night, get in some light reading and don't forget to dismember your pals when they go all possessed on you.

Interesting similarities / dissimilarities between this and "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things."  Honestly, the stuff you have to tell some people not to do...
