I wonder what Japan and South Korea's thoughts are on GameStop.

I'm asking this question because most of the Western countries have them. However, Asian countries (like the ones stated above) don't seem to have any.

I can only imagine the Japanese really does not the way GameStop handles their used market because they are all about keeping their games in great condition with a fair trade value while GameStop just throws away or outright destroying any game that doesn't give them a quick profit along with an unfair trade value. Keeping their items in mint condition is part of their culture. I remember hearing that Walmart is really not popular in Japan. I can imagine how the Japanese feel about GameStop's crappy policy.

Now South Korea on the other hand, I do not know much about. However, I do remember that they are into Western culture a lot more than their Japanese neighbor. However, I noticed that when I looked up on Wikipedia the list as to where GameStops are located, South Korea doesn't seem to appear on the list. So I assume that they must really not like GameStop if South Korea doesn't have a location.

I've been to this game store in Singapore called Toy and Game, they are a much better and cleaner store than GameStop.

That's all I have to say. I would just like your thoughts.

I'd question also saying the Japanese care deeply about maintaining the quality and condition of their used property, resale or otherwise.  I still can't think of, outside of some really crapped out flea market discoveries, worse copies of games I've ever come across or happened to fall into ownership over than those from Japanese owners.  I've had the range of stuff changed three color shades of nasty from heavy smoking, weird otherwise discolorations, and odd wear.  At least Americans seem fairly consistent in just shredding stickers or getting the nicotine stank so bad you can smell it coming on paper or otherwise.  A few months back I picked up a lot of games from Japan due to primarily 2 titles in it that go for hellish sums on open auction sites the US can buy off of, and some of them were pretty rough...beyond any hope of personal use or even feeling right about trading off on another.  And it's nothing new, I've seen it bad, originally being west coast, at import friendly shops.

What's the deal with generalising entire societies and cultures, with tens to hundreds of millions of people living in them?

In fact, I'd go as far as to question generalising GameStop, I'm sure they're not all filthy... You should see some of the stores I dig through around here, I often come out with nasty  black soot coating my hands and arms! Never heard of anything like that at GameStop! 😄

I find this observation interesting because, I've purchased literally a couple thousand items from Japan over the last several years, and most everything I've received has been in very very good condition.  In my personal experience, the items overall were taken care of WAAAAY better than what I've purchased from here.

Maybe it depends on the types of items bought or where purchased from.

Hey, how come all Japanese people are into tentacle porn?  How do you think the Dutch feel about that?

Wish I knew, it had been Nintendo games from the SFC and Gameboy variety really.

I think they'd be amazed at how cheap the new games are (new games are often more expensive in Japan than in NA) but shocked at the high prices of old games, especially the famous SNES RPGs. One look at the cost of an FFIII cart vs. an FF6 cart and their heads would spin. Finally, they might get a kick out of all of the sports games; I only remember seeing one American football video game in a retro store in Japan, and it was pretty expensive as it was an EU import. Someone enterprising could probably flood the JP market with Madden drink coasters and door stops and do ok.
