What are the rarest games for nes.

I built my list with certain scenarios in mind.

Everything on my list rated 1 through 6 you can reasonably expect to eventually find at a garage sale, or flea market setting.

Everything rated up to a 7 you can reasonably expect to find eventually at a local game store.

Everything up to 8 you can expect to find at all times on ebay with the occasional drought.

R9‘s have frequent droughts

abd R10’s are just straight up rare

I'm wondering what are some rare games that are obtainable for a regular joe. Loose cart is fine. I'm thinking like snow brothers since it's 9 on the list or maybe duck tales 2. What's some top rare games of regular licenses games not variants etc. So like 1.stadium event 2. Little samson? 3. Etc all loose cartridge. Give me your guys list.

It's pretty much impossible to quantify exactly what the top 10 would be. Everyone has different opinions on the exact rarity of certain games.

As others have mentioned, I think this guide that ThePhleo created is easily the most accurate out of anything you will find on the internet.

I do agree that Casino Kid II is one of more rare licensed. It just doesn't get talked about much because almost no one besides full set collectors want a gambling NES game.

If I had to throw out my top 10 it would be (no particular order):

1. Cowboy Kid

2. Dragon Fighter

3. Wayne's World

4. Casino Kid II

5. Bonk's Adventure

6. Flintstones Dinosaur Peak

7. Bubble Bobble Part 2

8. Kid Klown

9. Zombie Nation

10. Wacky Races

I don’t see the difference between your two examples. 10k is still 10k.

Yeah, you are correct - but the relativity I was talking about is in perception. Like I said, if only 10,000 copies of some Zelda game existed, everyone would talk about it like a really rare coveted collector grail.

If 10,000 copies of The Outfoxies existed it would be ubiquitous in sales everywhere, and one of the cheapest PCBs you could get.

I appreciate the info! No snow brothers on your list!

I am using your list as my base I appreciate the responses and everyone's responses actually. This has been a very informative thread for me and I am new to these forums but I already love them! Thank you community!!!!!

I haven't followed the entire thread so maybe someone already said as much, but I think the biggest takeaway for me when collecting NES especially is that price is not equal to rarity. There are some games which you will see for sale a lot less often than others, but they don't sell for the same price. IMHO the difference is how fun the games are. Little Samson & Flintstones 2 are expensive because they're rare and also good games. Something like Chubby Cherub or Swamp Thing may be similarly rare, but they aren't going to command thousands of dollars because they're garbage games and the only people trying to buy them are collectors.

Oh, and if I had to shoot at a top 10 it would be (don't worry about the order too much)

Little Samson

Flintstones 2

Power Blade 2

Panic Restaurant

Bonks Adventure

Dragon Fighter

Sword Master

Bubble Bobble 2

Then really you can insert: Kid Klown, Wacky Races, Cowboy Kid, color a dinosaur, etc - all games that you will likely never see in person at a local store, command a premium, but will be available in varying quantities on eBay.

Unless I missed a really obvious one, I think I feel decent about my list haha.

Excluding SE and unlicensed, your list looks decent.  I'd still say Panic doesn't belong anywhere near the top 10 though, maybe top 30 at best, but even then it's a stretch imo.  And Bubble Bobble 2 I'd probably drop as well, and promote a couple that maybe nobody sees.  Tweaking this list a bit I'd say something more like...

Little Samson
Flintstones 2
Bonk's Adventure
Dragon Fighter
Sword Master
Cowboy Kid
Color A Dinosaur
Wayne's World

And yeah, from there its' a bit of a crapshoot.  Wacky Races would definitely earn a spot, as would a half dozen others where arguements could be made.  Of course, if we're talking CIB, most of this goes out the window, as even some lesser rarity carts would start cracking the top 20 for sure...and then in nice shape everything just goes out the window.  But yeah, your list is pretty close to what my personal experience would say is accurate.

Top 3 are pretty well cemented, after that it depends on who you talk to.  My issue is that almost every list here prioritizes the good, playable games, and downgrades the turds that no one talks about.  Top 3:

1.-Stadium Events
2.-Little Samson
3.-Flinstones Surprise at Dinosaur Peak

There are very few licensed NES games that you cannot find any given day of the week on eBay in some form or another.  Do some searching and you'll soon discover what games to populate the rest of your "Rarest Games for NES" list with...

When did Little Samson become so rare.  I always thought it was just a really good Uncommon game.

It was always rare. People just didn't notice for a long time.  Kinda like how people thought that Stadium Events was merely uncommon until people started asking for it and nobody had one, and nobody could find it.  I'd only seen it once prior to it being noticed, and I've been collecting for over two decades.  It's price has jumped to retarded highs in the last 8 years or so, but the game was always scarce.

Dirty @docile tapeworm style cart

Shout out to champion video

Wayne’s World is notorious for having a trashed end label all the time too. Took me forever to find some of my better LJN/Acclaim titles as well

Yeah, even buying sealed Acclaim-manufactured games doesn't protect you from condition problems; I bought a sealed Spider-Man once and one of the clips was broken such that there was a hole in the end of the cart... 😞

I'm always interested in collector's WTB last ten games to complete the set lists. It seems to me that Ubisoft Indiana Jones (two on EBay) and Zombie Nation (three on Ebay) are always on them.

Pro Sport Hockey is always on those. Maybe not because it’s the absolute rarest but I don’t think anyone wants to pay for it because it’s not sexy.

here are some other hyper rares.

Licensed

  • Mah Jong (Nintendo - Hong Kong)
  • Family Fun Fitness: Stadium Events (Nintendo - USA)
  • Phantom Air Mission (Activision - Spain)
  • Ultimate Air Combat (Activision - Spain)
  • Donkey Kong Jr. (Nintendo - GBR)
  • Donkey Kong Jr. Math (Nintendo - GBR)
  • The Miracle Piano Teaching System (Mindscape - PAL B version)

corrected your list, as this is more accurate,
Snowboard Challenge is not as rare as you Americans think it is....
Ultimate Air Combat, the Spanish released version (not the UK release) is almost NEVER offered, The Miracle Piano cart is also almost never offered, if you want that one, you need to buy the complete piano, just to re-sell the piano again, afterwards......

You might find this interesting. I buy any cartridge, box or manual I find that I need. I will piece together anything, I don't care, I just buy it if I see it. I've been collecting for a decade and still do not have any piece of City Connection and I have no idea why. I guess by mere coincidence I've just never seen any piece of it.

Maybe you've seen it 50 times but assumed that it was Bases Loaded since it says "Jaleco" in orange on the end label instead of "City Connection" ... 😉
