MiamiSlice's hunting thread

Recommended Posts

Been going buck wild with Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals. Also been shopping a little too much on FB Marketplace, Mercari, etc. Will have a few hunts to post over the next week as stuff comes in. For now here's one: GameStop had a crazy buy 1 used game get 1 free deal on Actual Black Friday, so I snapped up 2 copies of a game I was actually wanting, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX. (The screenshot below says B2G1 but it was actually B1G1. I can never tell if these things are intentional... B1G1 is insane.) Fortunately, they both came with their original cases. Then I sold one for a little cheaper on Facebook Marketplace with shipping. FB Marketplace has zero fees until Dec. 31st, so I really did get $40 for that sale.

Here's another that I bought a while back and took a while to complete. GameStop was selling this Zelda Switch carrying case for $4.99 instead of $14.99, just clearing it out, and I already have one of these (one of the first things I bought for my Switch, because right after I bought it I was going on a business trip and I needed a case) but I really liked the idea of getting a second one at this price to have as a backup. But GameStop doesn't do free shipping unless you buy at least $35 worth of stuff, and there was literally nothing else I wanted at the time (well, some things I wanted but GameStop's prices were not competitive and I wasn't looking to spend money before Black Friday deals started). So I went looking around to see if anything was priced cheap and sure enough they were selling Mario Party 2, yes the N64 game, on sale for $29.99. That's a decent amount below typical eBay sold prices for an authentic cart. So I figured what they hey, I put 2 of that (the limit) in my cart alongside this Zelda case and figured I could sell them eventually.

Sure enough both carts were authentic and while not in perfect shape I was eventually able to sell them for about $40 shipped each, so my total return was $73.97 after shipping and fees so yes I got my free Zelda case and $4 to spend on coffee or something 🙂

Update on that Super Mario 3D Land which was $5... so I was about to compare it to my other copy of SM3DL to decide which one to keep and then I spent like 20 minutes looking all over my house because I couldn't find my other copy... until I finally realized I DIDN'T HAVE ONE. I think I had bought the game digitally when it came out and never got around to adding a physical copy to my collection. So, well, I ended up keeping it.

Mail call! Paid $366 altogether for this 36 pound box shipped to me via UPS (shipping alone was $55 😅). Nintendo Power 1-51, the related bonus books from that era, and even 4 Fun Club books. Quality is mixed, issue 1 for example has the posters separated, some of the mags have writing on the reg cards and so on... I still haven’t figured out if the price I paid was good or not... this was posted “for offer” in an FB group and there were a lot of hungry collectors messaging the seller already so I felt I needed to make a move and here we are. Will part out the duplicates when I actually get some free time (not soon 😔) and eventually might make some of this money back.

Those look to be in great shape, very niceee

Thanks man. I stayed up late last night going through some of them and writing down what might be a fair value. Some are missing posters, have writing on the reg cards or some kind of wear on the cover / spine but then there are others that are like new. Most of the early issues that I have from previous lots have yellow spines and/or tears on the covers so I will definitely be upgrading anything I already have!

Found this on FB Marketplace for $15:

Which doesn't really sound like a deal... $15 is what this usually goes for. But usually when you see a used copy of this, the Amiibo card is not included. This card goes for $10 or $11 on its own. So that's cool!

Also I'm not usually one to willingly buy a Nintendo Selects title... all my 3DS games are first-prints. But I have a complete Animal Crossing set and I was tempted to pick this up as it's technically a separate release from Animal Crossing New Leaf. This is the Welcome Amiibo update version and the cart itself is actually different from both the first print and the first Nintendo Selects print as well. This is ACNL Nintendo Selects:

The cart code ends in EGDE-USA. The Welcome Amiibo update, which came along later, was only released as a Nintendo Selects version and the code for that ends in EAAE-USA.

I don't know if any fullset collectors treat these carts as separate releases but I do! And I'm not a fullset collector but the idea of having this in my Animal Crossing set was intriguing enough for me to get it 🙂

p.s. and if you look at the cover art, the Welcome Amiibo update has a few key changes... not just that they added the AMIIBO COMPATIBLE banner on the top right, but they actually changed up the artwork too!

I can't resist an alternate artwork release, even if the contents are exactly the same. So this sounds like a double win.

Two hauls that took a while to land both finally arrived today!

First up is this GameCube haul I got via Reddit for $260:

56863827-12BD-4FE9-8DEF-A9B45F93EA15.jpeg

This was shipped Priority Mail but took much longer than it should have to get to me. Surprisingly there's a bunch of games here that I didn't already have... Pokemon Colosseum, Tube Slider, Incredible Hulk, Ultimate Spider-Man, X-Men legends and a couple of the Tony Hawk Games. I will be selling the rest and will make back a decent portion of the total cost.

Update: most of the dupes were in better condition than what I already have, so I also got the added bonus of upgrading!

Second is a bit of a story:

C086E9D8-64C4-4D38-BC92-2B61308DF299.thumb.jpeg.bd457d175b987552a938eb535f96e114.jpeg

I saw some Wii games listed on FB Marketplace for $4 each from a Pawn Shop the next state over. I messaged them and asked if they are willing to ship and they said yes, as long as I'm ok paying the shipping cost. Then I didn't hear back from them for a week! Was kind of thinking they must have sold to someone else when I happen to see the listing on Facebook Marketplace again. So I messaged them *again* and this time they responded to finally collect payment. Took a week to finally close the deal and then a few days to ship to me! So I got these two games for about $12 and change. Cooking Mama I already had via a lot I had acquired but it was missing the manual while this one is complete. Abba You Can Dance is a game I've been hunting for a year! Usually it goes for at least $20 or maybe $25 online and I never see it in any local deals. I think this was the last of the Just Dance spinoff games by Ubisoft I needed to complete the set! But more importantly I will actually be playing this one soon 🙂

Quick lil' GameStop haul:

C13E09B9-8D20-416E-A63F-72644FFA6253.thumb.jpeg.8608457f6bbed313d3165262d812afdc.jpeg

I try to check GameStop dot com every day to see what might be in their daily deals. Today they didn't have any Switch games in that section but I was browsing around and noticed they had an exclusive GameStop game, Shaun the Sheep Home Sheep Home Farmageddon Party Edition (I kid you not, that's the whole name) on sale ($10 off) for $19.99. I had a $5 monthly reward coupon to spend before the month is over so figured why not. And they also had this deal going where you could get a free Zelda shirt with the purchase of 2 Switch games. So I start going around seeing if there's anything else I want to buy to qualify for the sale and was almost about to put Let's Sing Country in my cart since it's only $4.99 but then I saw Table Top Racing Nitro Edition was also $10 off for $19.99 and remembered I had kind of overlooked that one so I checked out some reviews for both games and figured I should go for them.

Then I saw my local GameStop had both of these in stock and I wanted to pick up in store because I wanted to get a good look at the shirt before taking it (just in case there was anything wrong with it or the size looked off) so I drove over to the store and picked everything up. And when I was checking out, the cashier said I had two reward coupons on my account and I said "I'm just using the $5 one since that one is expiring soon, I can't combine them" and he said actually I could combine them so I ended up paying about $26 with tax for everything here!
