What is it

I've been trying to figure this out since the last event ended, but everyone who participated are keeping their cards close to their chest 😛

Apparently it's related to some TV show, and involves playing video games.

Looking forward to the official announcement.

Its basically the same as the show, but the competitions become video games

It's moreso a competition show, where 16-20 people are thrown on a remote island with a machete, a pot, and some rice and have to fend for themselves for 39 days. You have to build shelter, go fishing, etc. The game starts with 2 or 3 teams or "tribes." Every few days, you compete in challenges, which in the show can be anything from hauling giant, heavy objects (really hard to do when you are literally starving), untieing knots, doing some kind of mental challenge such as trivia, or putting together a giant puzzle.

These challenges can be either "reward" challenges, where the tribe will win food, or pillows, or fishing gear, etc. or "immunity" challenges, which saves your team from having to eliminate anybody. The team or teams that lose immunity go to what is called tribal council, where everybody casts a vote and the person who gets the majority is eliminated from the game.

The voting is where the social game comes in. Throughout the whole show while people arr trying to survive and win challenges, they are also forming social bonds and "alliances" to vote out other players. You have to be really good at social politics and reading people who you can't trust to win the IRL game.

After a certain number of players are voted out, the tribes "merge" into one and the game moves from being a team based game to an individual one. Reward and immunities are now individual, and you go to tribal council each round no matter what. The person with immunity cannot be voted for.

The coolest part of Survivor is that every player who is voted out after the merge joins what is known as the Jury. They are eliminated and get to shower and eat food like a normal person again, but also sit in on each tribal council for the rest of the game as a literal silent jury. At the end, when only 2 or 3 players remain, at the final tribal council the jury has a Q&A session with the finalists and can ask them questions about how they played the game. How they balanced camp life/survival, challenges, and the social game and alliances... the goal being for the jury to get a final idea of who is most deserving to win the game. The coolest part of Survivor is that the jury, the very people you had to vote out to make it to the end, make one final vote and decide which of the finalists wins the whole game. The finalist who receieves the majority of the jury votes becomes the "Sole Survivor." In real life, the Sole Survivor wins a million dollars.

We emulate camp life/survival and reward and immunity challenges on VGS with challenges related fo video games. Getting a high score, completing certain games, or even weird ones like video game trivia or making video game-themed art projects. The winner at the end gets a title for bragging rights as well as a prize, though it is definitely is not a million dollars. Poor Jeevan's prize was lost in the mail amidst the pandemic 😭

But overall, we aim for it to be a ton of fun and you certainly don't need to know the show to win. Jeevan won without ever seeing the show and went on to become a super-fan, binge-watching all 40 seasons of the IRL show 😂 I hope if you are considering joining the game that you do!!
