LostLevel83 84 Member ·
My primary curiosity: Is there a way to use the Game Boy Player to without having some kind of disc in the system? I’ve spent a few days reading up on GameCube mods and have found more questions than answers. Seems like there are a lot of great soft mod options now in 2020. What have you found to work best? What would you recommend against? Any tips or suggestions are appreciated!

drxandy 3,035 Member ·
I love and prefer using gameboy interface over the standard gameboy player software: https://www.gc-forever.com/wiki/index.php?title=Game_Boy_Interface I use an action replay disc to boot it and swiss with an sd adapter (also known as sd gecko, mines a wiikey.. they all do the same thing.) I eventually plan to install a xeno mod chip and burn a copy of gbi. I hate the onscreen z button banner with the stock software, and there are so many customization options for gbi. Edit: looking back at the original post, I believe the only way to run gbi or gbp software without a disc is to have an gcloader as replacement for the optical drive https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/07/gc_loader_ditches_the_gamecubes_dvd_drive_so_you_can_run_games_from_an_sd_card Edited October 1, 2020 by drxandy

I have a European GameCube which is modchipped so I can play North American games with the scart RGB output. One of the bonuses of my setup is that it plays games on burned mini dvds. It would be awesome if I could get gbi to boot from a disc

I haven't done it but it will be the fastest way to load it other than the gcloader replacement for the optical drive.
