CasualCart 6,093 Graphics Team ·
There's a common "challenge" among online art communities to make an ink-drawing for every day in the month of October. This year I will be creating my own interpretations of 8-bit character sprites. For the 31 days of October, I'll take a character sprite from an 8-bit video game and re-imagine it as a cartoon. Here's an example based on the NES Lode Runner sprite: Feel free to share your own ink-drawing character interpretations, or post a sprite you'd like to see me tackle. Happy October, VGS! -CasualCart
DefaultGen 4,537 Member ·
Post an image of that dude for those uncultured swine who don't know what NES Lode Runner looks like. I sure can't imagine being one of the people who don't know what NES Lode Runner looks like. I sure didn't have to look it up, but just in case we have some NES newbies here I guess I can post it. So that's what he looks like, huh. 2

ZeldaFreak 3,050 Events Team ·
I am definitely gonna be keeping up with this thread, super excited to see some more of your drawings! As far as sprites I'd like to see you tackle, you can obviously draw whatever your heart desires, but here's a couple that would be awesome to see you do: Legend of Zelda Link Legend of Zelda Ganon Castlevania Simon Belmont Seeing your interpretation of Shadow Link/Link's Shadow from Zelda II would also be pretty nifty While it looks like you're sticking with 8-bit sprites for Inktober, seeing your interpretations of 16-bit sprites sometime down the line would be pretty awesome as well. Richter Belmont from Castlevania: Dracula X and Rondo of Blood in particular would be awesome, since he's my childhood Belmont, and the one that introduced me to the series. Don't have to draw all (or any) of these if ya' don't want to, just trying to give you some ideas Either way, looking forward to it!

glazball 148 Member ·
Very cool, love your drawings @CasualCart! I think it would be fun to see these - not for any particular reason but they just seem like they would fun to draw: Chubby Cherub Kid Niki (or Little Ninja Brothers) Milon Athena Princess Tomato Kuros (Wizards & Warriors) Duke Togo (Golgo 13) Arthur (in his tighty whities)

OptOut 8,014 Member ·
Well, seeing as I live in the future and it is OFFICIALLY Inktober 1st here in Taiwan, I figured I'd kick things off with my dramatic rendition of @CasualCart's origin story!!! Ever wonder how he got so good at art? Yeah, well, you're welcome world, my finest student!

CasualCart 6,093 Graphics Team ·
01 - Link [The Legend of Zelda] @ZeldaFreak - thanks for the suggestion. At first I wasn't going to do well-established characters since they're so iconic and they've been reimagined by so many people already, but I figured it would be a good challenge to try recreating Link as if I'd never seen anything but the NES sprite before. -CasualCart 11

I'm glad you came to that decision about well-known characters, you always add your own spin on characters in your drawings. I like those little aviator goggles he has, haha. Probably would be a good piece of kit for Link to have in his adventures honestly, eye protection is important

CasualCart 6,093 Graphics Team ·
Haha I basically turned Link into a glorified garden-gnome and all you guys care about is the goggles? @Murray who is that character? CasualCart 6,093 Graphics Team ·
02 - Milon [Milon's Secret Castle] This was my favorite suggestion so far, @glazball. Milon's Secret Castle always draws me in with its neat graphics, but I usually give up playing after a few minutes because I have no idea what's going on... -CasualCart

OptOut 8,014 Member ·
It's Inktober 3rd here in Taiwan, and in light of current events it's time to get politically relevant with a bit of biting, intelligent, and entirely non-derivative satire. So, here's a little picture I took during my summer internship at the penis pump factory in Wuhan. I was mainly there to goof around and crack wise, but they DID let me play with the penis pumps after hours, so that was fun! "Get well" soon, Mr. President! 1
CasualCart 6,093 Graphics Team ·
03 - Shovel Knight [Shovel Knight] Thanks for the suggestion, @Makar! I've never played Shovel Knight, but the sprite-work in that game looks killer. My rendition ended up being a bit too similar to the official design than I would have hoped, so I decided to mix things up with a more 'realistic' take as well. -CasualCart 12
