Disc buffing/resurfacing

So there's a Youtuber I watch and she just came out with this video where she buffs/resurfaces nasty looking games and makes them look decent...

But I was sure that most at home methods of doing this ended up doing more harm then good? idk, you tell me.

Is it a good idea and should I race out and get the supplies or should I avoid this and let a game store use their professional machine to resurface my discs?
