avatar! | 1,783
This is one reason why people want to ban TikTok (although the two are not necessarily directly related) Of course UNSW caved in immediately! money is at stake... https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-08-03/unsw-under-fire-for-deleting-china-social-media-posts/12517306 "UNSW is sadly just the latest example of how relationships with the Chinese Communist Party is compromising our universities...Universities should be bastions of academic freedom and freedom of expression...They should not be willing to undermine such values or self-censor in response to campaigns of intimidation." YOURTURN | 1,256
Meanwhile... But seriously, though... Those who use the app claim it's more about retaliation for what users did to his Tulsa, Oklahoma rally. And none seem to dismiss the issue of it being part of a Chinese company. Either way... I avoid politics because of the level of political stupidity I had to deal with both on Facebook and in person.

Tulpa | 3,445
I remember reading one time that it was written into NSA policy that Furby toys were not allowed in sensitive areas. Understandable because they were thought to have a tape recorder in them (they don't, but they have a mic, so it was assumed that they could record things), but it was still amusing that they mentioned it by name. Anything with any kind of microphone is banned from sensitive areas. (i.e. no noise-canceling anything, for instance) I doubt they mistakenly thought it was recording -- since they probably did a lab tear-down to see what was actually in it -- but if something has a pre-existing microphone, it isn't that hard to ADD recording capability. So rather than worry about microphones coming in and out of facilities, they are strictly controlled.

It was super intense, they made us lock our phones in an RF Isolated box. whenever we entered and exited we were “wanded” for any devices. If any of us had to use the bathroom, we all had to go and stand in the bathroom with the guy. Each one of us had an armed MP assigned to us that was no more than 6 feet away watching everything we did. Whenever we walked down a hallway, all the doors were shut and one of the MPs held a sign that said “unsecured personnel” and red lights would flash. It was pretty crazy, an experience I will never forget.

Normally, you just get escorted by whatever regular employee signed out an escort badge for the day. Edited August 5, 2020 by arch_8ngel

When I worked at GE Aircraft Engines, any time we were in the military dev wing the guys would say "unclear" the second anybody walked into their office while we were doing our thing. Yeah engineers spent a full day going through the UPS before and after installation to verify we didn’t add something too. The UPS was supporting secure satellite communications (or so I was told). I think the UPS was 500kw but not sure.

Also, is the Great Pumpkin the one that has yellow hair and flapping lips or the one Linus believes in?

Quote Schulz himself, however, claimed no motivation beyond the humor of having one of his young characters confuse Halloween with Christmas. It makes me wish I could find a group who would want to do a parody of this in a Cyberpunk Red campaign.
