Getting the anniversary edition on Switch. I haven't played the game at all but want to make the time to play this one.

I just started this game the other day. It's pretty cool and I love the visuals, although the movement feels slow for me. Cherry and Adam are my favorites so far since they have a lot more mobility than the others. I really struggle to do well with Blaze and Floyd's speed (or lack thereof) also makes him quite challenging to use. I'll probably just finish a single playthrough on normal, but it seems like it could be fun to go through the harder difficulties with some buddies.

If you want a faster flow in the game, you should probably make more frequent use of your "desperation" attacks (I forgot what the game calls them), especially Axel's jumping attack just quickly slams right into a group of enemies on the opposite side of the screen, allowing you to keep up your combo. Of course you'll need to not get hit for a while in order to avoid losing health, but the game really has that risk/reward balance going quite well.
