fcgamer | 5,128
I'm starting this thread so that we can share bands / artists that we like, which aren't known in the USA. I'll start by sharing some bands mostly from Taiwan, which I like: No Party for Cao Dong: Fire Ex: These guys are probably at the top of my list, I saw them perform live here too. Random: Eggplant Egg: Amazing Show: Link to comment https://www.videogamesage.com/forums/topic/3267-the-unknown-music-from-outside-the-usa/ Share on other sites
Reed Rothchild | 10,067 Editorials Team ·
Kalmah, Swallow the Sun, Omnium Gathering, Scar Symmetry, Sigh, Hollenthon, Mercenary, Skyfire, Haggard, Orphaned Land, Disarmonia Mundi, Evergrey, Ayreon, and many others all have basically zero US presence for the most part. I bet Disarmonia has never toured outside of Europe. I also had a random indie music compilation from India. Pretty bad... Except one artist. Protest the Hero vibes. I wish I k ew what they were called. 1 Link to comment https://www.videogamesage.com/forums/topic/3267-the-unknown-music-from-outside-the-usa/#findComment-68122 Share on other sites
MachineCode | 159
Crossroad is a cool song. I wonder how hard it is to sing in a tonal language since the inflection can change the word itself, which I would think limits the vocal melodies. Much respect. Haggard is one of the greatest unknown joys of western music. Them Germans know their way around classical music for sure. One of my personal favorites. id like to throw in elvenking (Italy): Alcest (France): Shaman (Finland): Versengold (Germany): 1 Link to comment https://www.videogamesage.com/forums/topic/3267-the-unknown-music-from-outside-the-usa/#findComment-68241 Share on other sites

Reed Rothchild | 10,067 Editorials Team ·
Therion is another one that is a complete unknown in the US despite being huge in Europe. I doubt they ever tour the US again. Hammerfestus | 4,208
Also I’ve got to throw in some Pain of Salvation: As far as I’m aware they still won’t tour the US after they tried to fingerprint dude post 9/11. umm how about some Tyr to wash it down: Europeans can’t hog all the fun: Andre Matos‘ band after he left Angra. 1 Link to comment https://www.videogamesage.com/forums/topic/3267-the-unknown-music-from-outside-the-usa/#findComment-68560 Share on other sites

Hammerfestus | 4,208
Lol! That should be a thing you should be able to special request. “Put your damn clothes back on and let’s talk about the new album“ Also here comes the joke about holding your heathen hammer high. nesmaster14 | 479
I had a friend from Nepal back in high school who was one of the few people in school I clicked with musically. Anyway he was part of a music group/scene called KTMRocks (Nepal underground metal/rock scene) and this was one of the bands he helped with called VHUMI. I'd love to visit there sometime and go to shows. 2 Link to comment https://www.videogamesage.com/forums/topic/3267-the-unknown-music-from-outside-the-usa/#findComment-68795 Share on other sites
Kguillemette | 1,680
Amorphis was one of my favorite Finnish bands in high school(still is too!) I'm not sure how to classify the next band, Arcturus, but they are simply amazing.(Norway) 2 Link to comment https://www.videogamesage.com/forums/topic/3267-the-unknown-music-from-outside-the-usa/#findComment-68803 Share on other sites

guitarzombie | 960
Amorphis? My band played with em a few years ago. Said some nice things about us. I didn't hear it though because I never heard or cared about em, but the lead singer/gtr player loved em and wanted to do the show just to say he played with em. Reed Rothchild | 10,067 Editorials Team ·
Nice dude. Amorphis is my buddy's favorite band after I introduced him to Skyforger. He'll get a kick out of that. Also, why would you not watch the set you're opening for lol? Seriously though, great band. The only album I didn't feel so far is Far From The Sun. The album's Elegy and Tales From The Thousand Lakes 20 years later still get monthly spins by me. Tabonga | 2,533
This is a good example of the Krautrock genre from the sixties/seventies. (The Cosmic Jokers were a sort of super group of some of the best of that movement). Guess they had to figure out what sound they wanted through trial and error. Tomi Joutsen spits some hot fire on some of the newer tracks. I love The Bee.
