I think it’s an entertaining movie. However, like Goonies, I saw it in college and think it is overrated.

It is one of those movies. If you didn’t see it as a kid, or you aren't big into cheesy 80s movies. It just won’t have the same impact.  

Karate Kid is an 8/10 for me. I watched all the 3 movies alot as a kid. Even saw Next Karate Kid in the theater.

9/10. Great movie but much like The Godfather it is surpassed by the sequel. Also like the Godfather, the third entry is much derided but enjoyably campy.

Solid 6/10 at least. Good movie but not something I really want to go out of my way to see. I think the last time I saw this movie like a couple years ago was at my brothers house/dog sitting and it was on cable lol

9.  After seeing The Karate Kid, I was enrolled in martial arts classes by the end of the week.  Plus that tune by Joe "Bean" Esposito is one of the best around.

Just one of those “blind spot” movies for me.  I know “wax on/wax off” and the best around song.  

Feels like the same plot as every other kids/sports movie, so not sure what I am missing I guess.  Weird to see so many 9s and 10s with no explanation given.

I also hadn’t seen The Last Starfighter till a couple years ago.  If I saw that when I was like 10 it prob would have been one of my fav movies of all time.

ITS A CLASSIC FROM THE 80'S!!!!    Although it has the same plot as 90% of the other 80's movies, hit song and cheesiness

As someone who collects and revels in 80s movies, I would say TKK has aged much better than most, and a million times better than something like TLS

Thats fair, and while I believe you and I have fairly similar/comparable tastes in thing, I think you would probably get a kick (pun intended lol) out of this movie if you do and watch it. I'd imagine while you won't find it as on of the "GOAT"s you will still enjoy it and I highly recommend giving it a watch to see it at least once.

btw I also lowkey liked the remake with Jackie Chan, though only about as much as I like the original here (also holy cow it was 10 years ago already lol)
