Master System - PSG or FM audio?

I'll be honest. I'm not a huge fan of either. Though I would have to go with PSG over FM. Although FM makes the games sound more advanced, FM sounds kind of gross to me. Especially when it comes to sound effects. On the other hand, PSG feels very thin and high pitched but is iconic. What is your choice?

I tend to prefer whatever would have been available to me when the system was current. So I would have never heard FM back in the day so I default to PSG.

It actually depends on the game, but most of the time the FM sound is better.  I installed my FM board years ago, so I'm not sure what they cost today, but for what I paid, and how simple it was to install, I say it's definitely worth it.

I'll also add that I think it's very interesting that there were a few games that were only released in the US that had FM sound programmed in, meaning that if it wasn't for these current mods, there would be no good way to hear that sound.

I never liked the way Master System games sounded. That was one thing that the NES was somehow way better at.

Gotta pick FM here. Haven't heard it in too many games, but there's no way it could be worse than the PSG sounds.

Needs an option for "Both". Some games sound more natural to me with PSG and I prefer that. Others have improved soundtracks via FM and I prefer them there. It varies from title to title.

It depends on the game, like others have pointed out.

Double Dragon with FM sounds rather nice. Shame it's not a good game. But truth be told, most games sound pretty bad on the SMS, whether it's FM or PSG.

Usually, the FM music is better, but then the sound effects turn into robot farts.
