Proven by old Nintendo Merchandising Catalogs to be a Kiosk. I used to have 2 of these. Mine had metal brackets for holding controllers. The pictures I've seen have also shown a power strip mounted inside. I have an M81C if there are any specific pictures you would like, let me know. Cool thread, thanks for posting! That bottom picture is from when I found it at an old tv repair shop that use to be an official Nintendo repair place. I sold it off before I knew what it was. I’ve seen very few of them and never one with controller brackets. I’ve never seen any pictures of the M81C other than the ones in the merchandising catalog so any pictures would be great. I've seen all of them except the 3 System Interactive Demonstration Tower, but I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of those survived. Some day it will probably pop up in a warehouse or something. I would assume they were supposed to get trashed after their run as per policy, just like the signs. Nintendo wanted it that way.

Back then you had to purchase your signs and kiosks for your store fronts. The store owners could do whatever they wanted with them afterwards since it was their property. Here are some of the prices according to the 1993 order forms. M80C: $1,000 M80L: $300 M81C: $1,250 M81L: $350 Edited January 16, 2020 by Bubbapauls

But that's what i heard that Nintendo was rounding up and trashing these things.

The M80C has a 14" RGB monitor, and the M81C has a 20" consumer TV set with s-video, so the smaller one will look sharper if it's in good shape. Buuuut, the 14" monitors are notoriously prone to failure, and it's proven very difficult for even experienced CRT repair technicians to get working because of a lack of parts. As far as signal types go, the jump in quality from s-video to RGB isn't that significant, but a tube being small can make it look inherently sharper than a similar spec larger tube. So it's sort of 6 in one hand, a half-dozen in the other.

The picture quality is really good on the M80c's RGB monitor if its calibrated properly. The tube is just better quality in general and a flat screen. These are built internally more like PC monitors of the time. The JVC's aren't really consumer TVs. They are the model of TVs that would have been in hotel rooms. Specifically made for displays that need to turn on without pressing the power button and other features. There actual tube is pretty standard consumer level though. Also RGB is far superior to s-video or there wouldn't be an entire sub-culture dedicated to it so I'm not sure what Aaron is on about. I find the RGB quality on the M80c's Zenith tube to be on near the quality of a 14" PVM that I have.

Especially when we're talking screens of this vintage. Most of the PVMs available from that period would have been between 560tvl-600tvl. Just my opinion though.
