I love the way Overlord has fallen from its high perch. It's such a delicious thing when a game that seems so forbidding is actually totally broken.

Have you ever tried Star Voyager? It's aggravating but any given run is relatively short. Most people hate it but I kind of like it, at least whenever I'm not playing it.

With you on Orb-3D. That's one of a very few games that's made me say "Never again!" It's not even that long or that difficult, it's just so...uncooperative and tedious.

@scaryice, can you post lasr years point totals for each game or even this years if you have them in a place to cut and copy? It would be fun to look through and develop an early gameplan going into it.

Yes, no more Bard's Tale! This year I may be holding back on RPGs in general and instead focus on other games that I haven't beaten so far, or just not for this competition. For a moment I even thought of beating stuff like King's Knight very early to lower the score of this game and maybe one day get it down to 1 point. After that I could "retire" from this game and watch others scramble to beat it for 1 point. Just kidding!

A look back on this year would take a lot of time, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it before the year ends. After all, most of my 83 clears were first time clears and if you factored in games from the weekly contests there would be a few more.

I have only beaten Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Ikari Warriors (couldn't even no death it, I suck), Ghosts 'n Goblins and that bloody Michael Andretti's World GP game this year.
All because I was summoned last minute to play that shit.

So yeah... I guess.
My focus has been on the weekly contest and to stop being terrible at SFV.

Congrats everyone on finishing this!  I haven't been all that active here lately but I have been watching from afar and I'm glad to see it come together near the finish line.

I'll still be good for 5-10 clears next year as well, whatever I happen to be playing.  I'm right in the middle of playing Ultima: Exodus right now, which I understand doesn't help for next year's list and probably keeps me from submitting all that many clears since most of the library gets done early in the year.  But nevertheless I'll still be around!

About bonus points: For next year, I'm just going to continue the system we had this year (giving extra points to games based on how many years they were unbeaten). My original idea for 2021 was to give everyone one bonus point for every game they had never beaten in a previous year's competition. However, after doing a bit of research, I realized that would've actually have the opposite effect vs what I was going for. I checked the top five, and 3/4 of the others actually lost ground vs nerdy. This is what the 2020 standings would've looked like under such a system (real points on the left, proposed change on the right).

@scaryice, I think you made the right call keeping it the same format as last year with the bonus points. I get the idea of encouraging people to beat games for the first time. But a big part of this for me personally is getting to play through some of my favorite games and getting the satisfaction of contributing at the same time. For a lot of long/tough games, we wouldn't want to turn off the people who have been willing to endure them in the past. For example, we will soon be begging @Daniel_Doyceto play Koei games. We dont want to deincentivize him there!

Kind of deincentivizes me from playing them. I like playing the Koei games, but if other people are "calling" games, then I won't bother.

I'm definitely not playing the Koei games or Shingen the Ruler this year. There are too many other tough games I haven't beaten yet.

No one can reserve games anyway.. If someone is starting a long game, it's courteous to give everyone a heads up, but that's the extent to which a game can be "called."

Yep, no "calling" games has been the policy for ages, and rightly so.

The only scenario in which that could be a bad scene, I suppose, is if someone replays a long game specifically for the thread and no other reason, and someone else ninjas it at the last minute -- but I don't think that's happened. I had visions of that possibility with Bases Loaded but fortunately at least I'd never beaten it before so it would've been fine either way!

So, WashYourFace, please do wash the countryside free of the influence of Cao Cao, or Takeda Shingen, or the British, or the Duke of Wellington, or etc.

BTW I had some vague ambitions of taking on a Koei game this year but I brilliantly managed to break my laptop screen the other day, making it hard to play games and watch TV with my wife at the same time.  That said I'm toying with the idea of taking on Dragon Warrior III in 2021, as it's on my "must replay" list.

Howdy @Strikezone1, and friends!

I'm glad I was able to help clear the whole list this year. I am of course proud to have clinched another solo victory (three in a row, and four overall in my years here and previously on NintendoAge). This was actually the first time I was ever still on top after all the games were beaten. I got pretty busy the second half of last year, so I wasn't of much help down the home stretch.

I've been busy enough that I've been debating whether I can or should try to go hard again in 2021 or not. But as we draw closer, I'm just not ready to walk away from this. I was looking forward to Midnight VGS time, and now I'm not sure if I'll be in gaming condition or not. I fucked my back up scooping snow this afternoon, and I might really suffer when it's time to reach over to hit the reset button. But hopefully I can be in the fray tonight. I've been a Day-one contributor seven years in a row, and I'd rather not snap that record.
