What do you guys make of these two different Nascar stickers on the same Xbox One title?

Nascar Heat 3 - Xbox One

I picked both up at a garage sale today, and they have the same barcode # and everything is identical, but there are two totally different Nascar stickers on the backs. I mainly want to know if I can count this as a variant or not.

i'd only count that as a variant if i found more of them like this...

I disagree. If theres one variant of a game, its a variant. Not saying that this example counts as one, but hypothetically, if theres one 5 screw Little Sampson on the planet, and it was legit, it would be a variant.

Have you looked into the sticker at all? I did scoure some EBAY results for you and found both stickers on a few. I did find teh sticker with the QR code more often than the other. Im sure you can count it as a variant if you want others may have a differing opinion on it though.

Where does the QR code take you?  Is it NASCAR related, publisher related, or retail store related?  If it's related to a retail store, it might have been a Walmart exclusive variant or something similar.

Either way, I guess I would lean towards variant.  But I'm not sure how many people are going to get excited over variant collecting on an XBox console.

Whether it's NES, Genesis, Xbox or anything else, if something different was intentional and was under the shrink wrap, it makes it a variant.

Also, if there's a sticker on the shrink wrap and it came from the manufacturing facility, it too is a variant. That's at least my opinion and is the starting point. But what about a sticker placed on a game from a retailer? Price tags don't make games variants, but what if Wal-Mart slapped a sticker on 1,000,000 of them in a distribution center and then shrink wrapped it in a bundle they made? I guess you could call that a variant of a game, especially if the contents of the whole package are desirable.  This is getting in the weeds, but my point is, these stickers were under the OEM shrink wrap, so they are definitely variants.

Im in 100% agreeance with everything stated here.

Here is a screenshot of where the QR code takes you. Its basically a page from Nascar's official website.

Thats a pretty smart idea for this type of game. Slap a QR code and put the details of the other thing you for sure know they are going to be interested in. I'm surprised more companies don't utilize this.

Well then I'd say it's a variant, albeit a very minor one. Also, one garage sale has two copies of the same NASCAR game for Xbox One, so that's interesting in itself.

The plot thickens...

They were the only two items related to video games that the sellers had. It was pretty weird, but of course I bought them both.

Both stickers look official, so that should qualify them as variants. Also, often varying stickers might mean different zones of distribution or different print runs. All conjecture here, but just to add to the point that there is usually some reasoning behind the sticker variations.

  • 2 weeks later...

Usually one is earlier and one is later, if both discs manuals and boxes are exactly the same revision, might be harder to find our which one comes before. Maybe look at other nascar games from the same year, and check disc ring to make sure one is not a newer revision.

Seen license stickers like Toei, Fujikopro and Koei with small differences which i am able to locate at different times due to differences in boxes and other parts.

Nothing really incredible
